1.Patellar Position in the Normal Adult Knee Preliminary Report
The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1983;18(3):481-485
Nine strains (6%) were confirmed as resistant (MIC=20ug/ml) to methicillin (MT) among 150 isolates of staphylococcus aureus. These MT-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains were also turned out to be more less resistant to other antibiotics tested, such as penicillin, chloramphenicol, tetracycline, and gentamicin except for cephaloridine. It was noteworthy, however, that strain MRSA 5 showed a relatively susceptible attitude toward most of the antibiotics tested, while being extremely resistant to MT only. Salt (NaC1) containing (5–3%) media did not have any significant effect on the degree of MT-resistance of MRSA strains. There was, however, such a tendency as that by the addition of salt the degree of MT-resistance was lowered in the highly MT-resistant strains while enhanced in MT-susceptible ones. It was confirmed that penicillinase did not have any effect on the MT-resistance while most of the penicillin- resistant strains produced the enzyme.

The differential diagnosis of atypical mycobacteriosis caused by atypical mycobacteria (with the exception of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Mycobacterium bovis, and Mycobacterium leprae) which are widly distributed in soil and water, from pulmonary tuberculosis is possible only when atypical mycobacteria are isolated and identified. In this investigation, attempts were made to isolate atypical mycobacteria from persons registered as tuberculosis patients in the Anyang Health Center in Anyang City, Kyungki province, Korea. Biological and biochemical tests were performed for the atypical mycobacteria isolated from these patients, also retrospective analysis of clinical and X-ray findings of the patients with bacteriologically confirmed atypical mycobacteriosis were done. The results can be summarized as follows; 1. 103 strains of mycobacteria were isolated among 334 sputum samples from patients. 2. Among the isolated mycobacteria, 10 strains (9.7%) were found to be an atypical mycobacteria and 93 strains (90.3%) were tubercle bacilli of human type. 3. On the basis of Runyon's grouping of atypical mycobacteria, there were 3 strains (30.0%) of scotochromogen and nonphotochromogen respectively, 4 strains (40.0%) of rapid grower, and no photochromogen. 4. By biochemical tests, 3 strains of scotochromogen were identified as Mycobacterium scroful-aceum (2 strains) and Mycobacterium szulgai (1 strain) 3 strains of nonphotochromogen were Mycobacterium avium-complex (2 strains) and Mycobacterium terriae (1 strain), and 4 strains of rapid grower were Mycobacterium fortuitum (3 strains) and Mycobacterium chelonae. 5. In drug sensitivity tests, all 10 strains isolated atypical mycobacteria showed resistance to various concentration of INH and SM and low concentration (10 mcg, 40 mcg and 50 mcg) of EB, TH, and CS, and were sensitive to only high concentration (20 mcg and 100 mcg) of EB, TH, CS, and RFP. 6. In analysis of clinical findings by the patients with bacteriologically confirmed atypical mycobacteriosis, it was found that clinical symptoms of these patients appeared not to be mild than those of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. The patients with atypical mycobacteriosis had been treated for pulmonary tuberculosis for a long time and they showed no improvement.

OBJECTIVES: This study was performed to compare health value cognition and health promotion behavior compliance between healthy group and not being healthy group, and to evaluate the difference of health promotion behaviors compliance between high group and low group in health value cognition. METHODS: The subjects of this study were 565 workers, 233 healthy workers, 172 observation cases and 160 disease cases, selected from 4,919 transit coporations workers. RESULTS: In health promoting behavior compliance, not being healthy group showed lower level than healthy group in exercise and showed higher level than healthy group in interpersonal support significantly. A worker who replied on health as the most value in life was consisted in 37.3% of healthy group and 36. 1% of not being healthy group, Health value cognition according to general characteristics showed no significant difference except only variable of age in healthy group. Health promoting behavior compliance according to cognition of health value showed in healthy group that a high level group of health value cognition was more significant difference than a low level group in self actualization and health responsibility of health promoting behavior and didn't show difference significantly in not being healthy group. CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, the relationship between health value cognition, health promotion behavior compliance and periodic health examination results showed weakly. Therefore, in order to develop and apply spontaneous health promotion program, it was considered that should emphasize compliance than cognition.

9.Transrectal ultrasonography in lower urinary tract for women without stress urinary incontinence.

Korean Journal of Urology 1993;34(2):207-211
Radiographic chain cystourethrography(CUG) for stress urinary incontinence(SUI) has several disadvantages including the risk of excessive irradiation, the time required for the test, and the discomfort of the patients. Nowadays it is widely accepted that transrectal ultrasonography for evaluating bladder and urethra provides similar information about SUI comparing with the conventional radio- graphic examination. Also some authors suggested that chain CUG is not essential any more to evaluate SUI, transrectal ultrasonography only is enough to evaluate SUI. So we try to perform tansrectal ultrasonographic examination in evaluating SUI before and after the operation but we need control parameters in normal women as a guideline of diagnostic criterial for SUI. So we analyzed the data of ultrasonographic findings in twenty women without SUI. Our data revealed that PUV angle in resting state is 127.5 degree, in stress state 145.7 degree and AIUA in resting state 40.5 degree, in stress state 54.0 degree. Those are little larger than Green`s criteria in chain CUG. Bladder neck descent was 5.7mm between resting and stress state. Interestingly amount of bladder neck descent was negaively correlated with the number of delivery and the aging. We hope that these sonographic parameters in control group will be helpful to be a guideline of diagnostic criteria in SUI.

10.Hydronephrotic atrophy after partial ureteral obstruction: Experimental model and natural history.

Korean Journal of Urology 1993;34(2):191-197
Partial ureteral obstruction was studied in male ICR mice in an attempt to observe the natural history of hydronephrotic atrophy. The left ureter was placed into the left psoas muscle, as descried by Ulm and Miller, to create a partial ureteral obstruction. In partial ureteral obstruction group, there was significant weight reduction of hydronephrotic kidney during the first two weeks. And then there was no further weight reduction. In complete ureteral obstruction group, there was progressive weight reduction and gain in hydronephrotic and contralateral kidney, respectively. These observations lead to conclusion that hydronephrotic atrophy after partial unilateral ureteral obstruction is not a progressive disease but develops in two phases: a destructive phase and a steady state phase.
