1.Legg
The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1995;30(6):1832-1836
Throughout medical science today there is increasing emphasis upon understanding the familial and associated genetic interplay in various disease processes. We observed a case of Legg-Calve-Perthes disease developed in monozygotic male twins. They have some mirror image of each other, for example hair whorl and involved hip. This report of the disease which is present in mirror fashion in idenitical twins illustrates enen more vividly the genetic interaction in the disease. Therefore, those who are aware that Legg-Calve- Perthes disease has appeared in a family should keep in mind the probability of the disease developing in another member.

Korean Journal of Preventive Medicine 1994;27(1):1-10
The aim of this study was to assess the degree of association between individual stress and the amount of smoking among male senior students of a medical college. The questionnaire survey was conducted twice for collecting the data on stress level in terms of BEPSl score, smoking amounts, alcohol intake, and residence type in 1992 and 1993. Among the 223 responders, 39.9% were smokers. In the smokers, the association between stress level and smoking amount was significant after controlling for alcohol intake and residence type (P < 0.l). Especially in the group of living without family, the association was more significant (p=0.06). Therefore, it is recommendable that the stress management program is called upon for the student smokers to reduce smoking amount.

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1996;31(2):175-180
We have attempted to define the acetabular remodelling after varus derotation osteotomy and limitations of pelvic osteotomy in the treatment of DDH. We studied the case of thirty eight patients (42 hips) who were divided into three groups according to age at operation and into two groups, subluxation with acetabular dyaplasia and complete dislocation. The cases were evaluated the influence of femoral remodeling, age, acetabular response and instability and requirement of other additional surgery. The length of follow up ranged from two to fourteen years. A return to a valgus femoral neck shaft angle by remodeling was observed in case without avascular necrosis of femoral head. Acetabular correction by remodeling occurred in case of well reduced the femoral head in the socket. Acetabular remodeling was observed even in age of 8. Twenty eight of 42 hips which were complete dislocation required no pelvic osteotomy. A varus derotation osteotomy is a necessary procedure for hip stability and open reduction in treatment of DDH. Good results should be anticipated in patient whose femoral head was well seated in the acetablum.

We report a case of a 59 year-old female with hyperlipoproteinernia who had xanthoma tuberosum, xanthoma tendinosurn and xanthoma planum. Yellowish nodules appeared on the right elbow 26 years ago and the lesions gradually increased in size and spread to the elbow, hand, knee, foot and achilles tendon. Except for the skin lesion, she was normal on physical examination. The laboratory findings showed that the serum cholesterol, beta lipoprotein and total lipid were increased. The beta band was rnarkedly elevated on electrophoresis, which suggested type IIa hyperlipoproteinemia. Histopathological findings shc wed many aggregates of foam cells and foreign body giant cells were seen in the dermis.

Journal of Korean Academic Society of Nursing Education 2022;28(4):400-410
Purpose:
This study aimed to understand the keywords and major topics of the educational goals and objectives of nursing educational institutions in South Korea.
Methods:
From May 10 to May 20, 2022, the educational goals and objectives of all 201 nursing educational institutions in South Korea were collected. Using the NetMiner program, degree and degree centrality, semantic structure, and topic modeling were analyzed.
Results:
The top keywords and semantic structures of educational goals included ‘respect for human (life)-spirit-science-based on, global-competency-professional nurse-nursing personnel-training, professional-science-knowledge-skills, and patients-therapeutic care-relationship.’ The educational goals’ major topics were clients well-being based on science and respect for human life, a practicing nurse with capabilities and spirit, fostering a nursing personnel with creativity and professionalism, and training of global nurses. The top keywords and semantic structures of the educational objectives included ‘holistic care-nursing-research-action-capability, critical thinking-health-problem solving-capability, and efficiency-communication-collaboration-capability.’ The educational objectives’ major topics were ‘nursing professionalism, communication and problem-solving capability; a change of healthcare environments and a progress of nursing practices; fostering professional nurses with creativity and global capability; and clients’ health and nursing practice.’
Conclusion
Educational goals in nursing presented specific nursing values and concepts, such as respect for human life, therapeutic care relationships, and the promotion of well-being. Educational objectives in nursing presented the competencies of nurses as defined by the Korean Accreditation Board of Nursing Education (KABONE). Recently, the KABONE announced new program outcomes and competencies, which will require the revision of educational goals. To achieve those educational objectives, it is suggested that the expected level of competencies be clearly defined for nursing graduates.

Korean Journal of Urology 2005;46(10):1098-1105
PURPOSE: To evaluate the antiproliferative activity of deuterium oxide (D2O) on urological cancer cells for the application of D2O in the treatment of urological cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Urological cancer cell A-498 (kidney), T-24 (bladder) and DU 145 (prostate) were used in this study. The changes in cellular proliferation and the expressions of the bcl-2 and bax genes, according to changes in the D2O concentrationand exposure time were measured. The changes in cellular proliferation were measured using a hemocytometer and the MTT assay, and the changes in gene expression by Western hybridization. RESULTS: D2O had antiproliferative effects, DU-145 was most resistant and T-24 was most sensitive to D2O. The proliferation of cells in T-24, as measured by the MTT assay, showed a reduced growth rate, which was the inverse of the increased D2O concentration and exposure time. The expression of bcl-2 was reduced with increasing exposure time and D2O concentration, and that of bax was increased with increasing exposure time and D2O concentration. CONCLUSIONS: From this study, the authors believe D2O has antiproliferative effects on urological cancers, and the effect on bladder cancer cells suggests that D2O shows potential as an agent for the treatment of early small bladder cancer or the prevention of superficial bladder cancer recurrence following transurethral resection.

Two cases of vaginal injury due to Coitus are presented. One is the case of the laceration of midportion of posterior vaginal wall with shock and the other one in the laceration of posterior vaginal fornix and pelvic peritoneum. They are all in multiparity. And a review of literature on vaginal injury due to coitus is made briefly.

Korean Journal of Pathology 1996;30(7):604-615
The purpose of this study is to investigate the morphologic changes of the sinusoidal endothelial cells and the associated structures of the cirrhotic rat liver induced by repeat intraperitoneal injections of N-diethylnitrosamine (DEN) (100 mg/kg/week). One day to 6 weeks later, rat livers were observed under the light, transmission and scanning electron microscopy, and immunostained with laminin antibody. Two weeks after DEN treatment, the fibrillar material in Disse's space was noted, and then a basement membrane-like structure was found at 4 weeks after treatment. Laminin was detected in perisinusoidal areas after 4 weeks. Laminin was strongly positive on the fibrous septum and in the sinusoidal wall of cirrhotic nodules after 6 weeks of treatment. The diameters and numbers of sinusoidal endothelial fenestrations did not change significantly until 2 weeks. They decreased within 4 weeks, and then the sinusoidal endothelium was poorly fenestrated at 6 weeks after DEN treatment. These results suggest that as fibrosis develops in cirrhosis, the deposit of extracellular matrix such as laminin within Disse's space is a major contributing factor in the structural alteration of sinusoidal endothelial cells, and the capillarization of the sinusoidal endothelial cells may be a contributor to impairment of the hepatic function in cirrhosis.
