A histopathological study was carried out on the duodenum of mice and rats experimentally infected by F. seoulensis. Each mouse was infected wit 500 metacercariae and killed after 1, 2, 3 days, 1 and 2 weeks from infection. Each rat was given 1,000 metacercariae and was examined after 1, 2, and 4 weeks from infection. The duodenal tissue sections of mice and rats were stained with hematoxylin and eosin, and PAS stained for the rats of 1 week group. The pathological findings are summarized as below. There were no differences in mucosal findings between the mice and the rats, adn between the location of duodenum, 1 and 5 cm distal to the pylorus. Each worm embraced a villus exclusively with its foliate forebody which was inserted into the intervillous spaces. The fluke pinched villous epithelia using its oral and ventral suckers. The tribocytic organ destroyed the villous epithelia deeply up to the stroma after 3 days from infection. Apparent villous changes were observed in the mice after 3 days from infection. Villous changes were shortening, widening, blunting or fusion. The villous stroma showed edema, microscopic hemorrhage, capillary congestion, dilatation of lymphatics and inflammatory cell infiltration. The cells were lymphocytes, plasma cells, eosinophils and giant cells. Rarely submucosal and transmural inflammation was encountered.

The Korean Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery 1998;31(1):66-68
A 27-year-old male presented with an anterior myocardial infarction following blunt chest trauma sustained in motorcycle accident. On examination, there was no visible wound on the chest wall. Echocardiogram showed dyskinesia over anterior left ventricular wall. Subsequent coronary angiogram demonstrated dissection at the proximal portion of the left anterior descending coronary artery and left ventriculogram showed apical anerysm and thrombus. He was treated by coronary artery bypass graft.

Journal of the Korean Neurological Association 2021;39(4):351-353
Meningeal carcinomatosis is caused by cancer cells invading the meninges and can cause cranial nerve palsies or intracranial hypertension. Intracranial hypertension can present various symptoms such as headache, visual loss, diplopia and may rarely include unilateral cranial nerve palsy. We report a 57-year-old female with leptomeningeal carcinomatosis and intracranial hypertension who presented as unilateral oculomotor nerve palsy.

Anti-N-methyl-D aspartate receptor (NMDAR) encephalitis is often accompanied with ovarian teratomas. It has a variety of clinical manifestations including psychiatric symptoms, seizure, and motor dysfunctions. The diagnosis can be definite when clinical symptoms are present and anti-NMDAR antibodies in cerebrospinal fluid are detected. However, in patients with suspected anti-NMDAR encephalitis with teratomas, early surgery may help the clinical outcome even if the antibodies are initially negative. The authors report a patient whose clinical symptoms improved significantly after early removal of teratoma.

PURPOSE: The aim of the study was to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Korean version of the Liverpool Adverse Events Profile (K-LAEP).METHODS: An observational, cross-sectional study was performed in people with epilepsy (PWE) treated with a stable dose of antiepileptic drugs (AEDs). The scale was translated from the English version into a Korean version and was then back-translated to examine its accuracy. Patients completed the K-LAEP, Quality of Life in Epilepsy-31 (QOLIE-31), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI).RESULTS: Three hundreds twelve patients were enrolled. The K-LAEP was completed in a short time, perceived as easy to comprehend, and there was no relevant information missing. Ceiling/floor effects were negligible. Internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha=0.9) and test-retest reliability (ICC=0.8) were satisfactory. The K-LAEP scores consistently correlated with QOLIE-31 (r= -0.528), BDI (r=0.526) and BAI (r=0.557) scores. When the K-LAEP was used to discriminate between patients with and without AED-related toxicity, the scores on the QOLIE, BDI and BAI corresponded. Anxiety symptoms were the strongest predictor to determine K-LAEP scores.CONCLUSIONS: The K-LAEP scale reveals highly acceptable parameters of the validity and reliability, suggesting that it is an appropriate instrument to measure adverse effects among Korean PWE.

Journal of Clinical Neurology 2014;10(1):42-49
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: A population-based door-to-door study of cross-sectional methods for assessing the prevalence and factors related to a high risk of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) was conducted using the Korean version of the Berlin Questionnaire (K-BQ). METHODS: Pooled data collected from Community Health Surveys by the Korea Center for Disease Control and Prevention were analyzed. Of 8,140 respondents from the population, 7,955 were finally included in this study. RESULTS: Of the 7,955 included subjects, 15.7% of the men and 9.8% of the women were at high risk of OSA. Significant differences were found in the following factors between the subjects with a high risk of OSA: gender, age, marital status, educational level, occupation, and presence of smoking, harmful alcohol use, and chronic diseases. Male sex, harmful alcohol use, and the presence of chronic diseases were identified as factors independently associated with a high risk of OSA. CONCLUSIONS: This is the first study to confirm the usefulness of the K-BQ to study the prevalence of OSA in the Korean general population. The findings demonstrate that harmful alcohol use and chronic diseases are very common characteristics among those with a high risk of OSA.

Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1994;31(5):807-811
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the CT features of second branchial cleft cysts. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed the computed tomographic images in nine cases of second branchial cleft cyst which was confirmed pathologically. Emphasis was on localization of the masses to fascial spaces as defined by the deep cervical fasica. RESULTS: In all nine cases, the lerions were located in the submandibular and carotid spaces. Among these cases, six(67%) had simultaneous involvement of the other contiguous spaces, such as anterior and posterior cervical spaces. All cases had round or oval, unilocular, cystic masses with partial or complete rim enhancement. In eight cases(89%), smooth and thin walls were observed. In one case, thick wall and septations were noted. No definite calcifications were noted in all cases. The internal contents of cystic masses showed relatively homogeneous appearance, and CT number ranged from 20 to 35.2 Hounsfield unit(HU)(mean, 28.4HU). CONCLUSION: CT diagnosis of second branchial cleft cyst would be easily obtained from recognition of frequent simultaneous involvement of the other contiguous spaces, along with a typical location and characteristic morphology.
