Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1995;33(6):949-955
PURPOSE: To correlate the CT findings of renal cell carcinomas with nuclear grading in histopathology. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Preoperative CT scans and pathologic nuclear grading of 60 surgically resected renal cell carcinomas in 55 patients were retrospectively and independently reviewed. RESULTS: As nuclear grade increased, renal cell carcinomas were more likely to be of higher stage(92% of nuclear grade III renal cell carcinomas was of stage Ill, all Grade IV tumors were of stage IIIb or higher) and greater size(84% of grade III tumors and 100% of grade IV tumors>5cm in size) at presentation, and appeared more heterogeneous(84% of grade III tumors and 88% of grade IV tumors showed moderate or severe heterogeneity) and less well marginated(84% of grade Ill tumors and 100% of grade IV tumors had irregular or imperceptible margins). CONCLUSION: Small well-marginated homogeneous renal cell carcinomas were either nuclear grade I or II, and were distinguishable from the more aggressive nuclear grade III or IV lesions, which generally displayed irregular margins and greater inhomogeneity.

4.Reduction in malodor, gingival index and plaque index after 4-week use of new concept oral irrigator
Journal of Korean Academy of Oral Health 2022;46(2):92-98
Objectives:
This study aimed to evaluate the changes in clinical indexes related to periodontitis, such as malodor, gingival and plaque indexes, during the adjuvant use of a high pressure oral irrigator (COMORAL ® , SMDsolutions, Seoul, Korea) in volunteers.
Methods:
We recruited 17 volunteers from an advertisement posted on Dankook University’s bulletin board. The oral malodor, gingival index, and plaque index of each volunteer were during the adjuvant use of a high pressure oral irrigator within a 4-week period.
Results:
Routine tooth brushing was done together with the adjuvant use of a new high pressure oral irrigator in the 4-week period. The oral malodor, gingival index, and plaque index measured after 2 and 4 weeks of use significantly decreased (P<0.05) compared with the baseline values obtained before the start of the study.
Conclusions
The adjuvant use of a new high pressure oral irrigator with routine tooth brushing in volunteers may more effectively manage daily oral hygiene.

The present study evaluated the effects of guided tissue regeneration using biodegradable membrane, with and without calcium-phosphate thin film coated deproteinated bone powder in beagle dogs. Contralateral fenestration defects(6 x 4 mm) were created 4 mm apical to the buccal alveolar crest on maxillary canine teeth in 5 beagle dogs. Ca-P thin film coated deproteinated bone powder was implanted into one randomly selected fenestration defect(experimental group). Biodegradable membranes were used to provide bilateral GTR. Tissue blocks including defects with overlying membranes and soft tissues were harvested following a four- & eight-week healing interval and prepared for histologic analysis. The results of this study were as follows. 1. The regeneration of new bone, new periodontal ligament, and new cementum was occurred in experimental group more than control group. 2. The collapse of biodegradable membranes into defects were showed in control group and the space for regeneration was diminished. In experimental group, the space was maintained without collapse by graft materials. 3. In experimental group, the graft materials were resorbed at 4 weeks after surgery and regeneration of bone surrounding graft materials was occurred at 8 weeks after surgery. 4. Biodegradable membranes were not resorbed at 4 weeks and partial resorption was occurred at 8 weeks but the framework and the shape of membranes were maintained. No inflammation was showed at resorption. In conclusion, the results of the present study suggest that Ca-P thin film coated deproteinated bone powder has adjunctive effect to GTR in periodontal fenestration defects. Because it has osteoconductive property and prohibit collapse of membrane into defect, can promote regeneration of much new attachment apparatus.

8.An Acoustic Neurinoma with Intratumoral Hemorrhage.

Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society 1984;13(4):753-759
Acoustic neurinoma are the most frequent tumors in the region of the cerebellopontine angle. They usually present with a gradual onset of symptoms and slow progression. Development of spontaneous hemorrhage with sudden aggravation of symptoms is rare. The authors present a case of acoustic neurinoma associated with a spontaneous intratumoral hemorrhage. Sudden aggravation of symptoms was noticed. The cranial computed tomography revealed multiple blood-fluid levels within the cysts of the tumor which was located in the region of the right cerebellopontine angle. Operation was performed, which confirmed recent hemorrhage within the tumor. Pathological study revealed a typical neurilemmoma associated with hemorrhage, vascular proliferation and macrophages which phagocytosed hemosiderin pigments. The rare sudden aggravation of symptoms in cases of acoustic neurinoma may suggest hemorrhage.

9.Death by Subdural Hematoma with Metastatic Carcinoma of Unknown Origin: An Autopsy Case Report.

Korean Journal of Legal Medicine 2014;38(2):83-87
Dural metastasis associated with chronic subdural hematoma is very rare in patients with malignant neoplasms; it may be difficult to distinguish malignant neoplasms from chronic subdural hematoma. Chronic subdural hematoma is usually a late manifestation of malignant tumors, which contributes to the severity of the prognosis. The scans obtained by using magnetic resonance imaging or computed tomography may be misleading when a subdural hematoma masks the underlying tumor. Herein, we report a case of a subdural hematoma with dural metastasis of unknown origin in a 45-year-old woman; however, the neoplasm was not detected until autopsy.

Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1993;29(5):914-916
A 31-year-old woman with surgically proven spinal extradural granulocytic sarcoma was examined with magnetic resonance (MR) imaging. This patient had no evidence of systemic leukemia. The signal intensities of the mass on T1-weighted and gradient echo images were higher than those of spinal cord, which were different from iso-intensity of cases reported by other authors.
