A rare but typical case of trisomy 9 shows the characteristic phenotype of this syndrome: microcephaly, low-set malformed ears, micrognathia, broad nose with bulbous tip, small and up-slanting palpebral fissures, deep-set eyes, congenital heart diseases, dislocation of joints, abnormal hands and feet, cryptorchidism, micropenis, mental retardation, and growth failure. In addition to karyotyping results, ultrasound findings are important in achieving diagnosis. We experienced a case of trisomy 9 mosaicism (47,XX,+9/46,XX) and so present it with a brief review of literature.

Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1992;28(6):858-864
The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was done to evaluate the effects of digital image processing techniques on the detectability of simulated pulmonary nodules and cysts in chest radiographs. Image processing techniques used were the contrast inversion, unsharp masking, and filtered equalization method. Simulated pulmonary nodules and cysts were generated by the computed program using Turbo-C language for personal computer. Each processed and unprocessed image sets of sixty images with pulmonary nodules and cysts and one hundred and twenty normal images were analyzed by three board-certified radiologists and four senior residents training in diagnostic radiology by five rating category. Area under the ROC curve was calculated using the trapezoidal rule. Mean area under the ROC curve of seven radiologists of the unprocessed image was 0.6360±0.0583, contrast inversion was 0.5660±0.0478, unsharp masking was 0.7534±0.0355 and filtered equalization was 0.6915±0.0472. Unsharp masking(p<0.01) and filtered equalization image(p<0.05) was statistically significant than unprocessed image. Digital chest radiographs processed by the unsharp masking method significantly increased the detectability of simulated pulmonary nodules and cysts overlapped with mediastinum and pulmonary cysts in free lung fields.

Korean Journal of Andrology 2006;24(3):126-130
PURPOSE: To assess the impact of physical characteristics on the incidence of varicoceles. Although previous reports have alluded to the fact that taller individuals may have a higher incidence of varicoceles, this has not been systematically studied. We hypothesized that physical characteristics such as height and weight could have a significant impact on the incidence of varicoceles. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed charts of 145 patients who presented for evaluation of varicocele between 2000~2005. Each patients' age, symptoms, height, weight and body mass index (BMI) were recorded. Independent t-tests were performed to determine whether a correlation existed between presence of a varicocele and height, weight, or BMI. Moreover, we selected 90 patients whose varicocele was detected by pain and performed the same analysis in order to exclude selection bias. Additionally, we compared varicocele grade with height, weight and BMI by one-way ANOVA test. RESULTS: Our analysis showed that there was no association between height and the presence of a varicocele. However, the weight of the patient and the incidence of varicocele approached significance with greater weight associated with a lower incidence of varicoceles. There was also an association between BMI and the presence of varicoceles but the correlation did not depended on varicocele grade. CONCLUSIONS: Although previous reports have alluded to a higher incidence of varicoceles in taller patients, the current study found no correlation between height and the presence of a varicocele. Increased weight, however, was associated with a significantly lower incidence of varicoceles. Varicocele grade was not correlated with any factor. This study demonstrates that height is not a consideration when evaluating the infertile male, whereas weight may affect the ability to diagnose the varicocele.

Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing 2020;50(4):571-582
Purpose:
This study aimed to determine the effects of a 12-week metabolic syndrome BeHaS (Be Happy and Strong) program in elderly people with metabolic syndrome living alone, based on a community-based participatory research (CBPR).
Methods:
A nonequivalent control group pre-posttest design was used, and the participants were 43 elderly people living alone (experimental group 24, control group 19). The experimental group received a one-hour program per week and two individual health consultations during 12 weeks. The control group received two sessions about the metabolic syndrome and two individual health consultations. The effects of health behavior, blood pressure, blood sugar levels, abdominal circumference, triglycerides, and self-esteem were evaluated. The data were analyzed using the independent t-test and Mann-Whitney U test.
Results:
The health behavior with respect to the metabolic syndrome in the experimental group increased significantly (t = - 3.19, p = .002). Both diastolic blood pressure and abdominal circumference decreased in the experimental group (t = 2.00, p = .028 and t = 3.91, p < .001). No significant differences were observed between the groups in systolic blood pressure, fasting blood sugar levels, triglycerides, and self-esteem.
Conclusion
The 12-week metabolic syndrome BeHaS program using community resources improves the health of elderly people with metabolic syndrome living alone. Based on these findings, further studies on the effectiveness of the metabolic syndrome BeHaS program and the experiences of those who participated in the CBPR are warranted.

The Korean Journal of Gastroenterology 2003;42(5):436-439
Arterial pseudoaneurysm is rare but potentially a catastrophic complication of pancreatitis because it can cause massive gastrointestinal bleeding. Since surgical treatment of arterial pseudoaneurysm has a high mortality, percutaneous angiographic embolization of bleeding artery has recently been advocated as the alternative therapy. Acute hemorrhage into the peritoneal cavity or pseudocyst complicating chronic pancreatitis was frequently reported. However, multiple pseudoaneurysmal hemorrhage without pseudocyst complicating acute pancreatitis are extremely rare. Here, we present a case of multiple pseudoaneurysmal hemorrhage secondary to acute pancreatitis, which were managed successfully by percutaneous angiographic embolization.

Korean Journal of Medicine 2012;82(6):774-777
May-Thurner syndrome, which refers to an iliofemoral venous thrombosis caused by chronic compression of the left common iliac vein by the right common iliac artery, usually manifests as left lower extremity pain and swelling. The syndrome is particularly evident in patients with health conditions including obesity, smoking, pregnancy, surgery, or prolonged immobility. Antiphospholipid syndrome consists of arterial or venous thrombosis and the association of lupus anticoagulant or anticardiolipin antibodies. Most common clinical manifestations include pregnancy loss and deep vein thrombosis. We experienced a rare case of May-Thurner syndrome concurrent with antiphospholipid syndrome, secondary to systemic lupus erythematosus. The patient was treated successfully by catheter-directed percutaneous thrombectomy, venous thrombolysis, and stent insertion, followed by oral anticoagulant therapy.
