Korean Journal of Dermatology 1972;10(1):39-43
A case of malignant melanoma is described. The patient, 67 years old male, had thumb tip sized two tumor masses with linear arcuate spread on left upper back near spine of 3 months duration, and metastatic lesion on right axillary lymphnode. Lesions were removed surgically and split skin graft was done.

Yeungnam University Journal of Medicine 1986;3(1):151-161
The authors studied depression, using Zung's Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS) in the subjects of 3,499 male and 1,335 female college freshmen of Yeungnam University. The authors collected the reports of SDS during the periods from January to February, 1986, and applied ANOVA and t-test on depression scores in order to compare them between various psychosocial factors, and sexes. The results are as follows: There was significant difference in the mean averages of total depression scores between male and female students: male students scored 35.68+7.46, female students scored 38.93+7.26 (P<0.01). The depression scores relating to the items of indecisiveness, psychomotor retardation, decreased libido, and diurnal variation were relatively higher in both groups. One hundred and sixty-one male students (4.6%) showed seriously high degree depression scores of 50 or higher, while one-hundred and seventeen female students (8.8%) showed the same scores. Female students attending in liberal arts showed higher level of depression scores (P<0.01). There was a strong tendency toward higher depression scores in the students who were dissatisfies with their home atmosphere, college, department and familiarity of parents and those who had pessimistic views of self in the past, present or future in both groups (P<0.001).

Korean Journal of Pathology 1989;23(1):122-131
The authors studied the early morphologic changes of peripheral nerve, which is known as relatively radioresistant tissue to the X-ray irradiation, but recently clamied by several clinician through development of neuropathies after radiotherapy of the malignacy. Rabbits were received 1,000 or 2,000 cGy of X-ray on the knee joint areas. Sciatic nerves were extracted out 30 minutes, 1, 2, 4, 24 hours, and 3 and 7 days after irradiation. The morphologic changes were observed by light and electron microscopes. The results were summarized as follows: Light microscopically, only mild edema is noted. Electron microscopically, irregular separation and folding of myelin sheath with spherical body formation are noted. Above features were more prominent at later stages and aggregated nests of fragmented myelin were scattered 16 hours after irradiation. Schwann cell necrosis is noted after 24 hours. But above degenerative changes were scarcely present 7 days after irradiation. There is no remarkable axonal changes. The interstitial tissue revealed swelling and irregularity of surface of endothelial cells, and edema. On the basis of the results, it may be concluded that the peripheral nerve is injured by irradiation in early stages, and the main target of irradiation injury is thought to be myelin sheath and Schwann cells, which would be reversible and could be recovered promptly.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1992;30(6):761-768
Trichophyton verrucosum is a worldwide zoophilic dermatophye. The human infection was first reported in t.he South western part of Korea in 1986 and Fas been increasing in Taegu area. Thirty-one strains of T. verrucosum isolated from the patients in Taegu area were investigated for their mycological features. Gross observation on Sabot rauds dextrose agar, microscopic examination by scotch tape method and slide culture or Sabourauds dextrose agar and potato dextrose agar, and hair perforation test were perforn ed at 37C. The averages of the largest dimensions of the colonies were .9mm at 2 weeks and 59mm at 4 weeks. The morphologic features of the colonies were clasified into three types. Eighteen of 31 strains showed flatwhitish, disc-like colonies with suvmerging hyphae, 11 strains had large radiating follows on the center of the colonies, and 2 strains showed colonies having diffuse fine folds on their surfaces with well-defined borders. On microscopic exaniination, many chlamydospores, antlerlive hyphae, oval and clavate microconidia, and rat tail or string bean shaped macroconidia were observed. It seemed that observation on potato dextrose agar during 10 to 14 days af er inoculation was suitable method for microscopic examination of T. verrucosum. All 31 strains showed positive reaction on hair perforation test.

Diffuse neonatal hemangiomatosis is an uncommon disease that is characteristed by a diffuse nature of the lesions, and distinguished form a single or few, or superficial or deep, capillary, cavernous, or mixed hemangiomas occuring in early or adult life. We report an autopsy case of multiple hemangiomatosis, which is associated with massive osteolysis of right humerus and arteriovenous fistulae in surrounding soft tissues. The patient is a 23 day old female infant and had a 2.0x1.5 cm sized cystic destructive bony lesion which was located in the proximal shaft of right humerus. Right arm was hypertrophied, compared to the normal looking left. There were multiple hemangiomas in right humerus, lung, cutaneous skeletal muscles and nerves. This case shares clinical characteristics of Gorham's disease.
