Korean Circulation Journal 1987;17(1):169-173
Fiftyeight patients with cardiac neurosis were studied to evaluate the effects of Carteolol 10mg/day. Systolic blood pressure was declined to 122.7+/-17.2mmHg from 137.1+/-23.2mmHg, diastolic blood pressure was declined to 79.6+/-11.1mmHg from 88.2+/-17.5mmHg. Pulse rate was decreased from 83.0+/-10.2 to 73.9+/-6.8per minute. The most frequent subjective symptom was palpitation (74.1%) and effectiveness of therapy for subjective symptom was 91.4%, for usefulness was 93.1%. There was no significant serious side reaction observed. We concluded that Carteolol therapy for the patients with cardiac neurosis could be useful and safe with a small dosage.

Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1990;31(3):329-335
Compensatory hypertrophy of muscle fibers has been known to occur when burden on a skeletal muscle is increased. However, there have not been reports concerning the response of extraocular muscles following a monocular resection and recession of horizontal muscles, which procedure is a common form of strabismus surgery. A large lateral rectus resection and medial rectus recession was performed in each right eye of 28 rats. After the horizontal muscle surgery, both medial and lateral rectus muscles were obtained from both eyes of each rat with an interval of 2 weeks from the initial operation until 8th week after operation. A mid-portion of an extirpated muscles were frozen and prepared for ATPase staining. With a differential preincubation in two buffered solutions, pH 4.6 and pH 10.3 and ATPase staining, muscle fibers were classified into 3 kinds-global singly innervated fiber(GSIF, alkali-stable), global multi-innervated fiber(GMIF, alkali-labile), and orbital surface layer fiber(OSLF). These muscle fibers were measured using micrometer to find out their diameters and compared with the diameter of extraocular muscle fibers of unoperated rats. All kinds of muscle fibers of a resected lateral rectus showed an increase in their diameteris(p<0.05, Wilcoxon rank sum test) but there was no hypertrophy in the recessed medial rectus the yolk muscle of the resected lateral rectus, medial rectus of the fellow eye also showed hypertrophy of GMIF and OSLF. The lateral rectus of the unoperated fellow eye did not reveal muscle fiber hypertrophy. The postoperative hypertrophy of muscle fibers were observed only at the 2nd and 4th postoperative week specimens. the hypertrophied muscles subsequently returned to the baseline fiber diameter.

The gene encoding F protein of CBP-1 strain, a heat-stable Newcastle disease virus (NDV) isolated from the diseased pheasants in Korea, was characterized by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), nucleotide and amino acid sequences. Virus RNA was prepared from the chorioallatoic fluid infected with NDV CBP-1 virus and cDNA was amplified by RT-PCR, cloned and sequenced to analyze. The PCR was sensitive as to detect the virus titer above 25 hemagglutination unit. 1.7kb (1,707bp) size of the cDNA was amplified and cloned into BamHI site of pVL1393 Baculo transfer vector. The nucleotide sequences for F protein were determined by dye terminator cyclic sequencing using four pairs of primers, and 553 amino acid sequences were predicted. In comparison of the nucleotide sequence of F gene of CBP-1 with those of other NDV strains, the homology revealed 88.8%, 98.5% and 98.7% with Kyojungwon (KJW), Texas GB and Beaudette C strains, respectively. As the deduced 553 amino acid sequences of F protein of CBP-1 were compared with those of other NDV strains, the homology appeared 89.9%, 98.7% and 98.9% with KJW, Texas GB and Beaudette C strains, respectively. The putative protease cleavage site (112-116) was R-R-Q-K-R, indicating that CBP-1 strain is velogenic type. The amino acid sequences include 6 sites of N-asparagine-linked glycosylation and 13 cysteine residues. These data indicate that the genotype of CBP-1 strain is more closely associated with the strains of Texas GB and Beaudette C than KJW strain.

Journal of the Korean Pediatric Society 1979;22(4):300-305
The author studied hiigh Risk Factor during a period of 1 year from July 1975 to June 1976 Among 1129 of newborns who were admitted to our nursery, 494 cases of the newborn were associated with hiigh risk factor? Following results were obtained : 1) The newborn associated with ?high risk factor?were 494 cases and about 44%,2) There was similar distribution in both sexes, 258 male to 236 female 3) The distribution of the newborn according to the risk factors was as follows: a. Meconium stained amniotic fluid(140 cases) b. Toxemia(121 cases) c. Cesarean section(120 cases) d. Birth weight under 2,500gm. Or over 4,000gm.(115 cases) e. Prematurity (92 cases) f. Multiple pregnancy(53 cases), in given order of frequency. 4) Among a total of 15 expired cases, 11 were premature-born. 5) Non-risk factor group were taken antepartum care in high percentage(77.3%), but high risk factor group in very low percentage(37.2%)
