Mucoceles usually occur as solitary, asymptomatic, translucent, and dome-shaped cysts containing clear viscous fluid on lower lip or oral mucosa. The authors reviewed the clinical and histopathological findings in 33 patients with mucocele and attempted to clarify the difference between the histopathologic types (retention and extravasation). The results were summarized as follows. 1. Age distribution was from 2 to 53 years and mean age was 21.4 years. Male to female ratio was 1.2:1(18 males.15 females). 2. Histopathologic type was classified. 4 cases(12.1%, mean age.17.3 years) were retention type, 19 cases(57.6%, mean age.'21.5 years) mixed type, and 10 cases(30.3 %, mean age.20.9 years) extravasation type. Among 19 mixed types, 13 cases were retention dominant and 6 cases extravasation dominant. 3. Durations from the onset to the diagnosis could be clarified in 16 cases. Those were below 1 year in 14 cases(87.5% ) and below 3 years in 16 cases all. Mean duration was 9.4 months. 4. The sites of involvement were lower lip(72.7%), tongue(24.3%), and oral mucosa(3.0%), in decreasing order of frequency. 5. The visited departments were otolaryngology(72.7%), dentistry(12.1%), plastic surgery(9,1%) and dermatology(6.1%), in decreasing order of frequency. 6. In the histopathologic observation, surface epithelium was observed in 25 cases (75.8%), cyst in 23 cases(69.7%), granlation tissue in 29 cases(87.9%), mucin in 28 cases(84.8%), surrounding salivary glands in 20 cases(60.6%) and foamy macrophages in 32 cases(97.0% ), 7. Special stains(PAS, D-PAS, and alcian blue at pH2.5 and 0.4) for the mucin were performed in 10 cases. The results were compatible with sialomucin.

Health Policy and Management 2023;33(1):29-39
Background:
Breaking the chain of disease transmission from overseas is necessary to control new infectious diseases such as coronavirus disease 2019 effectively. In this study, we developed a mobile app called Self-Symptom Checker (SSC) to monitor the health of inbound travelers.
Methods:
SSC was developed for general users and administrators. The functions of SSC include non-repudiation using QR (quick response) codes, monitoring fever and respiratory symptoms, and requiring persons showing symptoms to undergo polymerase chain reaction tests at nearby screening stations following a review of reported symptoms by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, as well as making phone calls, via artificial intelligence or public health personnel, to individuals who have not entered symptoms to provide the necessary information.
Results:
From February 12 to March 27, 2020, 165,000 people who were subjected to the special entry procedure installed SSC. The expected number of public health officers and related resources needed per day would be 800 if only the phone was used to perform symptom monitoring during the above period.
Conclusion
By applying SSC, more effective symptom monitoring was possible. The daily average number of health officers decreased to 100, or 13% of the initial estimate. SSC reduces the work burden on public healthcare personnel. SSC is an electronic solution conceived in response to health questionnaires completed by inbound travelers specified in the World Health Organization International Health Regulations as a requirement in the event of a pandemic.
9.Historical Perspective of Helicobacter pylori Treatment in Korea.

The Korean Journal of Helicobacter and Upper Gastrointestinal Research 2015;15(4):211-221
Since the discovery of Helicobacter pylori in 1983 by Warren and Marshall, it has been recognized as one of the most significant risk factors for gastric cancer and has been associated with various gastrointestinal disorders such as peptic ulcer disease. In Korea, the triple therapy of proton pump inhibitor, clarithromycin, and amoxicillin has been recommended as a primary regimen since 1998. However, the eradication rate of conventional first line therapy of H. pylori infection has been decreasing progressively, primarily due to increased resistance to antibiotics. A recent meta-analysis showed that the overall eradication rates were 74.6% by intention-to-treat analysis and 82.0% by per-protocol analysis. Therefore, the need for alternative first line eradication regimens has been rising. Sequential therapy, concomitant therapy, and various combinations of new antibiotics such as quinolone and rifabutin have been introduced as new options, but they have yet to be proven as standard first line therapy. Further nation-wide surveillance regarding the antibiotic resistance rates and well-designed prospective randomized controlled multicenter trials on the empirical first line therapy are necessary to establish the appropriate treatment for H. pylori in Korea.
