Korean Leprosy Bulletin 2001;34(2):59-69
We already achieved the goal of the elimination of leprosy that was recommended by WHO. But the amazing change of our country's situation of the economical & social conditions makes the need of the migrant worker. Especially, the portion of migrant workers form India, Nepal, Indonesia, Philippines, Bangladesh, & Vietnam, the countries of relatively high prevalence rate of Hansen's disease are increasing among them recently. It means the attention about the influx of Hansen's disease form the foreign countries. We perform the survey for Hansen's disease of the migrant worker. Total 603 workers were surveyed. We found only 4 persons, that had the high titer(above 500) of the result of PGL-1 ELISA, and only 3 persons, that had some findings, the suggestive finding of Hansen's disease, of cutaneous & neurological symptoms. In spite of the special study, we did not conform the diagnosis of Hansen's disease among them. During this survey, we did not find the conformed patients of Hansen's disease. But we think that we will be concerned about the influx of Hansen's disease from foreign countries, because of the recently significance change of the epidemiological situations of Hansen's disease in Korea.

5.Effects of Diphenylhydantoin on CBF, CMRO2, CMRG, and SEP in Experimental Cerebral Ischemia.
Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society 1984;13(2):217-226
Phenytoin(DPH) has been reported to be a benefit in the cerebral ischemia. To study the effect of DPH in an experimental stroke model. We subjected 45 cats to middle cerebral artery(MCA) occlusion 4 hrs after the placement of a MCA clip by a retro-orbital approach. Infarct size was determined 2 days after MCA occlusion. 20 animals served as control and received saline 2 ml bolus. All of these animal observed 1 hour, 1 day and 2 days after the removal of clip. In 20 treated animals, DPH was administered 50 mg/kg bolus every 6 hours intravenously after removal of clip. Infarct size was not significantly different between the control and treated groups. However, in DPH treated group, CBF, CMRO2, CMRG SEP were improved in early stage of ischemia.

Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1997;38(11):1921-1925
It has been Known that silicone intubation may be an effective procedure for total or partial obstruction in infants of age one year or less, and the older the patient, the lower the success rate. We had performed silicone intubation on 40 eyes of 39 patients from january 1995 to May 1996, and they were divided into 3 groups according to age: group 1, 6 months to 6 years: group 2,6 to 16.: group 3, one 16 years. The success rate was 92.4% in groups 1 and 2, respectively: 83.3% ingroup 3. The success rate in patients with partial obstruction in group 3 was 100% In view of the results of the present study, silicone intubation may be in primary procedure for partial obstruction of lacrimal drainage system.

7.The Structural Properties of Israeli Carp ( Cyprinus carpio L. ) Immunoglobulin.

Korean Journal of Immunology 1999;21(1):85-92
Serum immunoglobulins from Israeli carp (I. carp) were purified using affinity chromatography. Fish were immunized with purified mouse IgG, and the specific fish antibodies purified from the immune serum on a mouse IgG-immobilized agarose gel. Rabbit anti-carp Ig (Raclg) antibodies were produced following hyperimmunization with mlgG specific I. Carp Ab. SDS-PAGE analysis under reducing condition showed that I. carp Ig (clg) were composed of two u-like heavy chains with about 82 and 50 kD, respectively and one light chain with about 25 kD. On immunoblotting analysis, however, Raclg failed to react with light chain. When both protein A and protein G purified normal clg were compared with mlgG specific clg, no significant structural differences among them were observed. To investigate if there is any homology between other fish Ig molecules, cross-reactivity of Raclg against Ig molecules from 6 different fish sera and mouse control serum was checked on immunoblotting analysis. As a result, Raclg responded to only carp and tilapia Ig molecules, indicating that both tilapia and carp are very closely associated, especially, in the genetic basis of immunoglobulin structure. In flow cytometry study, Raclg appeared to recognize 45.8% of carp Ig+, 14.5% of catfish Ig+ and <5% of tilapia Ig+ cells. The result suggest the heterogeniety between receptor immunoglobulins on B-like lymphocytes and soluble immunoglobulins in serum. It is crucial to obtain pure fish immunoglobulins to produce reagent antibodies as tools for the study of their specific immune response.

10.A Case of Takayasu's Arteritis.
Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1986;27(5):891-895
A 27-year-old woman had a cataract in the left eye and absent radial pulses in both upper extremities. Fundus examination of the right eye disclosed arteriovenous anastomosis about the disc and segmentation of venous blood column. Aortogram revealed complete obstruction of brachiocephalic, left common carotid and left subclavian arteries, which were the branches of aortic arch. Takayasu's arteritis is an uncommon disorder which causes obliteration of branches of aortic arch and pulmonary artery. Its characteristics are absence of pulsation in the upper extremities and arteriovenous anastomosis around the disc. It affects mainly young females and its etiology is uncertain.
