This study was conducted to investigate the fluoride release of fluoride-containing restorative materials in fluoride recharging according to the concentration of fluoride toothpaste used in Korea.
Samples of glass ionomer cement, resin-modified glass ionomer cement, alkasite restorative material, and composite resin were prepared and fluoride release was measured on days 1, 3, 7, 14, 21, 28. Thereafter, fluoride-free, 500 ppm, and 1450 ppm fluoride toothpaste was applied to each restorative materials, and the fluoride release was measured on days 1, 3, 7.
Glass ionomer cement showed the highest cumulative fluoride release until the 7th day of measurement, and from the 14th day onwards, the resin-modified glass ionomer cement showed the highest cumulative fluoride release, but there was no significant difference.
When restorative material groups were recharged with 500 ppm of fluoride toothpaste, the fluoride release was significantly higher only for the alkasite restorative material compared to the fluoride-free toothpaste group (p < 0.017). When restorative material groups were recharged with 1450 ppm of fluoride toothpaste, the fluoride release was significantly higher in all restorative groups compared to the fluoride-free toothpaste group (p < 0.017).

OBJECTIVES: The current study aimed to explore the relationship between subjective sleep, emotions, social support and excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS), and extract the strongest predictor of EDS in female undergraduate students. METHODS: Our subjects consisted of 168 female undergraduate students (mean age 21.64±1.66). All participants completed Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), Insomnia Severity Index, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, Social Support Scale, and the Munich Chronotype Questionnaire. RESULTS: There were significant associations between insomnia, anxiety, depression with EDS, but not with subjective total sleep time of workdays and freedays. Also, 23.8% (n=40) of subjects endorsed clinical levels of EDS (ESS>10). Insomnia, anxiety, and depression were higher, and social support was lower in the EDS group compared to the normal group. Finally, we explored factors that influenced EDS, resulting in anxiety and social support being the strongest predictors of EDS. Social support was the strongest predictor of EDS compared to other predictors (β=-0.276, p<0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Results suggest that social support may be important to consider in female undergraduate students who experience EDS.

PURPOSE: This study aims to examine the relationships among social discrimination, subjective health, and personal satisfaction based on the country of origin. METHODS: The analysis was based on 16,958 immigrants who participated in the National Survey of Multicultural Family 2015 in Korea. This study conducted stratified cross-analysis of social discrimination for the differences in subjective health and personal satisfaction. Multivariate-adjusted odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals for the relationships among social discrimination, subjective health, and personal satisfaction were examined with multivariable logistic regression. RESULTS: There were differences in experience of social discrimination, subjective health status, and personal satisfaction according to the country of origin. Groups without the experience of social discrimination had better subjective health and personal satisfaction than the other groups. CONCLUSION: This study demonstrates that a discrimination prevention program needs to be developed based on a cultural approach.

OBJECTIVE: As the accelerated development and use of Electronic Health Record have grown exponentially, the possible disclosure of patient healthcare information is increased. The purpose of this study is to examine the perception gap on disclosure of EHR information among the patient/guardian group, healthcare provider group, and administration group. METHODS: A questionnaire survey from a hospital located in Incheon City of Korea was conducted and over 200 responses were collected. Outcome measures include healthcare information protection, disclosure of unidentifiable information, possible losses from the disclosure of healthcare information, and the ownership of healthcare information. RESULTS: Regarding healthcare information protection, three groups have a general consensus over some issues. In contrast, the healthcare providers and the administration group have a higher consideration regarding possible losses resulting from the disclosure of healthcare information than the patient group. In addition, the healthcare provider group considered the ownership of healthcare information to belong to the hospital in contrast with the patients' view that the ownership and disclosure rights belong to the patient. CONCLUSION: These findings indicate that the high level of interest and concern that our results revealed, suggests that more attention should be directed toward designing and developing policy, organization and legislative systems.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to examine nursing students' attitude toward death and perception on hospice care. METHODS: The survey was performed with 277 nursing students in three universities in Daegu and Busan. The data was collected by questionnaires and were analyzed using descriptive statistics. RESULTS: Regarding the attitude on death, 93.9% of the subjects had ever thought about death. They worried about separation and sadness with family (39.7%). About half (48.7%) of the subjects considered death as a final process of the life. With regard to the perception of hospice, 93% of the subjects heard about hospice through books or nursing courses (83.8%). The best hospice management institution was considered the one run by religious groups or non-profit organizations with government support (33.9%). Ideal model of hospice setting in Korea was hospital or institution specialized with hospice care (47.7%). The barriers the subjects thought to effective hospice care in Korea was the lack of the public consensus on the need for hospice program (37.9%). The average perceptions about the purpose of hospice care was 4.38, whereas, the average of the need of hospice care was 4.06. CONCLUSION: The findings of the study provides the basis for expanding nursing practice and education related to hospice care.

This study aimed to investigate the anti-angiogenic effects of the water extract of Pulsatilla koreana (Yabe ex Nakai) Nakai ex T. Mori., Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer and Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch (WEPPG).

Objective: The purpose of the present study was to screen the prevalence of aneurysms in migraineurs; to differentiate presenting features in migraineurs with and without aneurysm; and also to correlate the locations of aneurysm to the clinical features of migraine. Methods: A total of 4,416 subjects were interviewed and completed self-reported questionnaires on headache. Of these, 1,773 subjects diagnosed to have migraines based on the International Classification of Headache Disorders II (ICHD-II) criteria were screened for aneurysm by magnetic resonance angiography (MRA). When aneurysm was suspected, further investigation with trans femoral cerebral angiography (TFCA) or three dimensional computerized tomography (CT) angiography was performed. Based upon MRA findings, subjects were grouped into unruptured aneurysm migraine patients (UAMP) and no aneurysm migraine patients (NAMP). Results: The prevalence of aneurysm was 3.6% (63 of 1,773) with the mean age of 56.0 years, which were not different from those of general population. There was no difference in migraine subtypes between UAMP and NAMP. Aggravation of headache by estrogen replacement therapy during menopause (p=.039), history of migraine in young age (p= .021), diplopia (p=.026), and retroauricular pain (p=.025) were significantly associated with presence of aneurysm. Although aneurysms were detected more in anterior circulation, there was no correlation between aneurysm site and headache location. The average size of aneurysm was 3.5 ± 2.1 mm and none were ruptured. Interventional therapy of aneurysm did not alter the feature of migraine. Conclusions: The incidence of aneurysm was not different in migraine patients as compared to the general population. Some features which significantly differentiate whether migrainuers have aneurysm or not warrant further study to have a predictive and localizing value.

PURPOSE: Methcillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA) is known as a major cause of hospital acquired infection. The infection with MRSA bacteria is becoming frequent in the community because there are many people who have risk factors with low immunity. This study is intended to investigate the prevalence of MRSA in children and determine risk factors using genetic analysis. METHODS: Children aged between 3 and 7 years were recruited from six preschool institutions from Nov. 2004 to Feb. 2005 based in Seoul, Gyeonggi Province and Gyeongsang Province. A questionnaires was distributed to 1,000 parent of these children along with the letter of consent. A total of 242 questionnaires were collected and used for this study. Nasal secretion samples were collected using sterilized specimen containers and incubated in culture medium using mannitol salt agar to separate S. aureus. MRSA samples were identified through coagulase test and MICRO SCAN. PCR was performed on MRSA isolates to detect genetic sequence specific of MRSA. RESULTS: Of total 242 respondents, 16(6.6%) were found to be positive for MRSA. By residence area, 2(1.9%) out of 103 were positive in Seoul, 4(10.3%) out of 39 were positive in Gyeonggi Province and 10(10.0%) out of 100 were positive in Gyeongsang Province, showing a significant difference(p=0.037). A logistics regression was performed to evaluate the influences of variables that were significant. Gyeongsang Province had prevalence of MRSA(OR=5.520), and Gyeonggi Province(OR=5.710). Based on PCR, the distribution of genotypes of MRSA showed various patterns. But there was no difference between regions. CONCLUSIONS: MRSA infection was high in children when one of their parents were working in hospital or when one of their family members have underlying disease. This study provided evidence that the prevalence of MRSA is largely influenced by individual element such as family and health condition.

The purpose of this study is to investigate factors influencing the upper airway dimensions in skeletal Class Ⅱ children and adolescents.
In total, 67 patients were selected. Airway volume and minimal cross-sectional area were three-dimensionally assessed. Craniofacial morphology and skeletal maturity were assessed on generated two-dimensional cephalograms. The measurements were analyzed using Mann-Whitney test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation, and multiple regression analysis.
Upper airway dimensions were significantly smaller in pre-peak stage group, and positively associated with age. Anterior facial height and age were the most relevant factors for airway volume. Mandibular width and age were the most relevant factors for minimal cross-sectional area.
Upper airway dimensions were significantly associated with age, skeletal maturity and craniofacial morphology in all three planes.
