Interleukin(IL),generated by immunocytes or non-immune cells,is a group of cell factors that holds many important biological effects. Up to now,with the rapid progress of molecular biology and cell biology technique,29 types(IL-1 ～ IL-29)of IL have been reported since its denomination in 1979. IL-23,one kind of interleukin found in 2000,is composed of p19 and p40 sub group. Recent studies showed that it has various biological functions,such as acting on T cell to make it produce various cell factors,acting on DC and MP to affect the secretion of the relevance cell factors. The biological functions of IL-23 have played an important role in various diseases. This review describes the molecular structure,biological function,and its effects on related diseases.

Objective: To confirm the pathogenesis and diagnosis of pediatric Fisher's syndr ome.Methods: Clinical manifestations and Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) were compared and studied in 22 patients diagnosed as Fisher's syndrome.Results:Twenty- two cases of Fisher's syndrome both had the characteristics of ophthalmoplegia and cerebella ataxia,and had different degrees of incomplete fl accid paralysis in the ar ms and legs. In about half of 22 cases, the CSF showed divergence phenomenon of the protein and cell. Conclusion: Fisher's syndrome is a specific or variant type of AIP involving the cranial nerves, in which the cerebellar ataxia is taken as a main symptom and sign .

AIM: To study the clinical efficacy and safety of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) for infant with severe pneumonia.　METHODS: Seventy patients of infant with severe pneumonia were divided into 2 groups. Patinets (n=50) of the trea- tment group (M 30, F 20; age 6 mo± s 5 mo) were treated with IVIG and conventional drugs, IVIG 400 mg*kg-1*d-1 for 3 d. Patinets (n=20) of the control group (M 12, F 8; age 7 mo±7 mo) were treated with conventional drugs.　RESULTS: The duration of fever, tachypnea, high heart rate shortened. The gasp and rales disappeared earlier. The cardiac failure recovered faster than the control group. There was significantly diffference statistically (P<0.05). The level of IgG, IgA raised after treatment. There was significantly difference statistically (P<0.01). The level of CD+3, CD+4, CD+8 after treatment also raised significantly compared with that before treatment (P<0.05). IL-6 and IL-8 after treatment reduced. There was significantly difference statistically (P<0.05).　CONCLUSION: IVIG is safe and effective drug in adjuvant treating severe pneumonia of infant, specially RSV pneumonia.

Objective:To study the effect of airway IL-4RA gene transfer on asthma-associated expression of STAT6 in the mice of allergic asthma.Methods:Forty BALB/c mice were randomly divided into four groups:blank control,asthma model,asthma model administered by pLNC-laz,and asthma model administered by glucocorticoid and pLNC-IL-4RA.The ten mice in each groups were sensitized by i.p.injection of 10 ?g of OVA emulsified in 40 mg of aluminum hydroxide in a total volume of 200 ?l on the days of 1st,7th and 14th.On the 15th day,the mice were challenged via airways with OVA for 7 days,20 min a day,blank control were sensitized by i.p.injection of 200 ?l pH=7.4 PBS on days 7 and 14.Asthma model was administered by pLNC-laz or pLNC-IL-4RA for 3 days beginning at the 12th day.The mice of the group with glucocorticoid was administered with glucocorticoid on the 15th day for 7 days.24 hours after the last challenge,the mice were sacrificed by bloodletting.Serum OVA-specific IgE and blood Eosinophils were measured.The lungs were fixed by immersion in 10% formalin.Expression of STAT6 was identified by immunohistochemistry.Results:It was shown that pLNC-IL-4RA was integrated to the genomic DNA of pneumonic tissues.Retrovirus-mediated delivery of IL-4RA to airways of the asthma mice weakened airway eosinophilia triggered by either IL-13 or IL-4.Furthermore,IL-4RA delivered by retrovirus was expressed in airways of the mice with allergen sensitization,resulting in significiant reduction of expressing level of asthma-associated STAT6 in the experimental mice of allergic asthma.Conclusion:Retrovirus mediated delivery of IL-4RA to airways reduces expression of STAT6 in pneumonic tissues of asthmatic mice.Thus,the gene theraphy can be a potential therapeutic option to treat and control chronic airway inflammation and asthmatic symptoms.

Serum IL-1,IL-6 and IL-8 were determined by subjects-using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA technique) in 40 children with bronchial asthma consisting of 20 cases in the acute stage and 20 cases in the remission stage,and another 20 health children as normal control,respectively.The results showed that the levels of serum IL-1(11.9pg/ml±2.84pg/ml),IL-6(0.75ng/ml±0.3ng/ml)and IL-8(0.08ng/ml±0.05ng/ml)in the acute stage were significantly higher than those in the remission stage(8.41pg/ml±0.05pg/ml(IL-1),0.49ng/ml±0.08ng/ml(IL-6)and 0.02ng/ml±0.01ng/ml(IL-8)) and in the normal children (8.4pg/ml±0.32pg/ml(IL-1),0.4ng/ml±0.09ng/ml(IL-6)and 0.02ng/ml±0.02ng/ml(IL-8)),respectively.Further more,there were a significant positive correlation between IL-1 and IL-6 or IL-8(P＜0.01).It is concluded that IL-1 may involve in the pathologic process of asthma like IL-6 and IL-8,and an inflammatory reaction may still exist in the airway during the remission stage of asthma. The imbalances of cytokine network may probably be important reason as a molecular basis in the asthma pathogenesis.It is suggested that it can be valuable to predict an acute attack of asthma when the levels of these cytokines increase.

Objective To study the relationship between asthma and mRNA expression of β_2AR and IL-12 gene;to determine the expression level of β_2AR, IL-12 related to CysLT_1-receptor;to analyze the correlation between the severity of asthma and the level of the genes expression. Methods White blood cells was drawn from peripheral blood mononuelear cells of asthmatic children. DNA was taken and related genes were analyzed for half quantitative analysis by D-congeal glue analyzer software. Results The level of IL-12. β_2AR mRNA expression in the asthma group is obviously lower than healthy controls (P < 0.01) ;when asthma attacks, the expression of IL-12 is positively correlated to that of β_2AR (r = 0.34, P = 0.001) and negatively correlated to that of CysLT_1-receptor (r = -0.92, P = 0.001), the expression of β_2AR is negatively correlated to the expression of CysLT_1-receptor (r = -0.85, P = 0.003). The express of IL-12 is not related to the severity of asthma (P = 0.16), while there was a negative correlation between the expression of β_2AR and the severity of asthma (P = 0.003). Conclusions The expression level of IL-12, β_22AR in the asthmatic children is obviously lower than normal;The expression level of IL-12 is positively correlated to β_2AR in PBMC of asthmatic children;The expression level of CysLT_1-receptor is negatively correlated to IL-12 and β_2AR in the PBMC of asthmatic children;The expression of β_2AR is negatively correlated to the severity of asthma.
