1.Novel compounds in Momordica charantia

Objective To study new active constituents in the mature fruits of Momordica charantia.Methods M.charantia was extracted by alcohol and purified by D-101 macroporous adsorptive resin.The isolation and purification were carried out by silica gel and semiprepared HPLC,the compounds were identified and elucidated by spectral and chemical methods.Results Eight compounds were obtained and identified as charantadiol A(5?,19-epoxycucurbita-6,23(E),25(26)-triene-3?,19(R)-diol,Ⅰ),(+)-eduesmin(Ⅱ),bluemenol A(Ⅲ),karatavilagenin D(Ⅳ),5?,19-epoxycucurbita-6,23-diene-3?-19,25-triol(Ⅴ),5,19-epoxy-5?-cucurbita-6,23(E)-diene3?,25-diol(Ⅵ),3?,7?-trihydroxy-cucurbita-5,23(E)-diene-19-al(Ⅶ) and ?-sitosterol(Ⅷ).Conclusion Compound Ⅰ is a novel one,named charantadiol A.Compounds Ⅱ and Ⅲ are obtained from M.charantia for the first time.
2.Effect of ultra-fine powder of Bletilla striata on experimental gastric ulcer in rats

Objective To compare the pharmacodynamics of common Bletilla striata powder(80 and 200 meshes) with ultra-fine powder of B.striata on experimental gastric ulcer in rats and to clarify how much the dose of B.striata was decreased after superfine comminution.Methods The models of gastric ulcer were set up by anhydrous alcohol and acetic acid to measure the gastric ulcer area and count out the inhibitory rate;The tissue slice of gastric ulcer cicatrix was got far HE staining.Based on the viewpoint of pathology the morbid state was observed.Results B.striata powder could decrease the gastric ulcer area significantly,and the groups of ultra-fine powder were advantaged to the others.Conclusion After superfine comminution,the potency of B.striata can be improved with its dose reducing.It is good for mo-dernization of making dosage forms.
3.Quantitative analysis of aglycone of momordicoside L from Momordica charantia in different areas by HPLC.

OBJECTIVETo develop an HPLC for determination of aglycone of momordicoside L in Momordica charantia.
METHODA Kromasil C18 (4.6 mm x 150 mm, 5 microm) column was used. The mobile phase was acetonitrile-H2O (64:36), the flow rate was 1.0 mL x min(-1) and the UV detection wavelength was set 203 nm.
RESULTThe calibration curves were linear from of 0.025 microg to 1 microg (r =0.9911), the contents of aglycone of momordicoside L in Shandong, Henan, Hebei, Jiangxi are 0.211, 0.033, 0.013, 0.007 mg x g(-1), respectively.
CONCLUSIONThe method is simple and reliable for determination of aglycone of momordicoside L in M. charantia.

4.Studies on chemical constituents of Rabdosia serra.

OBJECTIVETo study the chemical constituents of aerial part of Rabdosia serra.
METHODThe compounds were isolated by extraction, coloum chromatography over silica gel and ODS, and preparative HPLC. Their structures were identified by various spectroscopic methods including MS, IR, 1D and 2D NMR data.
RESULTSix compounds were isolated from R. serra and were characterized as ent-1alpha, 7alpha, 14beta, 20-tetrahydroxy-11, 16-kauradien-15-one (1), kamebakaurin (2), dihydrokamebakaurin (3), rabdoinflexin A (4), daucosterol( 5), and beta-sitosterol (6).
CONCLUSIONCompound 1 is a new compound, and coumpound 3 was obtained from this plant for the first time.
