1.Nurses’ Experiences of Patients’ Safety Accidents

Purpose:
This study aimed to understand the meaning of the nurses’experiences of patients’ safety accident.
Methods:
This study is qualitative research using Giorgi’s phenomenological methodology to identify themes of the nurses’experiences of patients’safety accident. The research question was “What is the essential meaning of the nurses’experiences of patients’self-extubating?” Data were collected from the individual in-depth interview from November to December 2017. Seven clinical nurses working in intensive care units were purposely selected.
Results:
The results showed that 6 essential themes and 13 theme clusters were derived. The essential themes of nurses’ experiences were as follows: ‘Fear of unexpected situations’, ‘Guilt for having a safety accident’, ‘Regret about the cause of the accident’, ‘The conflict between patient human rights and adherence to patient safety principles’, ‘Daunted by the blame of others and feelings of guilt’, ‘Attention is paid to accident prevention practices’.
Conclusion
It is necessary to manage post-processing management of incidents and nurses’trauma.
2.Correlation between the Inclinations of the Incisors and Lips in Mixed Dentition

This study aimed to investigate the correlation between the inclinations of the incisors and lips in mixed dentition aged 7 – 11 years. Lateral cephalometric radiographs of 353 children were analyzed to measure the upper incisor inclination, lower incisor inclination, lower-nasolabial angle, and mentolabial angle in relation to the skeletal malocclusion classification. The measurements were then assessed using the Kruskal-Wallis test, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression analysis.There were significant negative correlations between the inclination of the upper incisors and lower-nasolabial angle in all classes of skeletal malocclusion. There was a negative correlation between the inclination of the lower incisors and mentolabial angle; however, class Ⅱ malocclusion had a significant positive correlation.This study identified the factors that affect lip inclination and verified their associations.

5.Trends in the prescription of opioids and gabapentinoids in patients with failed back surgery syndrome in Korea: a population-based study

Failed back surgery syndrome (FBSS) is a chronic condition that is characterized by persistent back pain following one or more spinal surgeries. Pharmacological interventions, such as the use of opioids and gabapentinoids, are frequently used in the treatment of FBSS. However, prolonged and excessive use of these medications can lead to dependence and adverse effects. This study investigates trends in opioid and gabapentinoid prescriptions among patients with FBSS in Korea from 2016 to 2020.
Methods:
Data from the Health Insurance and Review Agency were analyzed, and claims listing FBSS were selected for the study. Prescription patterns of opioids and gabapentinoids were classified based on the number of days prescribed per year.
Results:
Of the 390,095 patients diagnosed with FBSS, 41.6% of the patients were prescribed gabapentinoids, and 42.0% of them were prescribed opioids, while 10.6% of the patients were classified as long-term gabapentinoid users, 11.4% as long-term opioid users, and 7.4% of the patients were found to have long-term prescriptions for both drugs. The proportion of patients who received both gabapentinoid and opioid prescriptions increased annually. The doses of opioids prescribed have also increased along with the increase in the number of patients receiving opioid prescriptions.
Conclusions
The prescription rates of opioids and gabapentinoids among patients with FBSS in Korea continue to increase steadily, posing potential risks of addiction and adverse effects. Further research is needed to better understand the actual status of addiction in patients with FBSS.

8.Validity and Reliability of the Korean Versions of the 9- and 19-Item Wearing-Off Questionnaires in Parkinson’s Disease

and Purpose The wearing-off (WO) phenomenon is the most common motor complication in advanced Parkinson’s disease (PD), but its identification remains challenging. The 9- and 19-item Wearing-off Questionnaires (WOQ-9 and WOQ-19) are self-assessment tools for motor and nonmotor symptoms that are widely used for WO screening. We produced Korean versions of the WOQ-19 and WOQ-9 (K-WOQ-19 and K-WOQ-9) and investigated their validity and reliability.
Methods:
We used the translation–back translation method to produce K-WOQ-19 and KWOQ-9, which were self-administered by 124 patients with PD. We conducted in-depth 10-minute interviews for confirming the presence of the WO phenomenon, and then stratified the participants into groups with and without WO. Diagnostic accuracy was assessed by analyzing receiver operating characteristic curves. Concurrent validity was assessed using the Movement Disorder Society–Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale (MDS-UPDRS) and the Hoehn and Yahr stage with Spearman’s rank correlation analysis. Reliability was assessed based on test–retest Cohen’s kappa (κ) values and intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs).
Results:
The optimal cutoff scores on the K-WOQ-19 and K-WOQ-9 for WO screening were 4 and 2, respectively. The test–retest ICCs of K-WOQ-19 and K-WOQ-9 were 0.943 and 0.938, respectively. Nineteen of the combined 20 items in K-WOQ-19 and K-WOQ-9 showed moderate-to-substantial agreement (κ=0.412–0.771, p<0.001). The scores on the translated scales were significantly correlated with MDS-UPDRS IV scores.
Conclusions
K-WOQ-19 and K-WOQ-9 are reliable and valid tools for detecting WO, with optimal cutoff scores of 4 and 2, respectively.
