Objective To retrospectively analyze the one-year outcomes of modified single-armed suture technique for microsurgical vasoepididymostomy in men with epididymal obstructive azoospermia (EOA).Methods From February,2012 to November,2013,microsurgical longitudinal intussusception vasoepididymostomies using a modified single-armed suture technique in 51 men with EOA was performed. The followed-up period was designed as 1 year. The correlations between the sperm motility in epididymal fluid, unilateral or bilateral procedure, anastomotic site, and the female partner age and the patency or pregnancy rate were analyzed. Results Followups were carried out for 39 (76.5%) men.The patency was noted in 24 (61.5%) men and pregnancy was reported in 15 (38.5%) female partners, including 1 received in vitro fertilization using fresh ejaculated sperm.Motile sperms in epididymal fluid were observed intraoperatively in 14 (58.3%) patent men and 3 (20.0%) nonpatent men, respectively (P < 0.05).In patent cohort, the mean ages of the pregnant and non-pregnant female partners were 26.5 and 32.7 years(P < 0.05),respectively.Conclusion The modified single-armed suture technique showed favourable patency and pregnancy rates in this study. It's a practical alternative in the areas without the specialized double armed suture.

Objective To investigate the change of plasma vitamin D, A and E levels in infant with infantile hepatitis syndrome (IHS) and to provide reliable basis for clinical treatment. Methods Seventy-three infant with IHS (IHS group) from January 2015 to May 2016 and 82 cases of physical examination infant (control group) were enrolled in this study. The levels of plasma vitamin D, A and E were tested and compared between two groups. Results The levels of vitamin D, A and E in IHS group were significantly lower than those in control group:(37.871 ± 20.111) nmol/L vs. (97.708 ± 28.827) nmol/L, (1.082 ± 0.657)μmol/L vs. (1.810 ± 0.517)μmol/L, (21.252 ± 7.596)μmol/L vs. (26.647 ± 6.495)μmol/L, P<0.01 or <0.05. The nutritional status of vitamin D, A and E in two groups had significant differences (P<0.01). Conclusions There have obvious deficiency in fat-soluble vitamin D, A and E in infant with HIS , and vitamin D deficiency is the most obvious. The levels of vitamin D, A and E are the dynamic monitoring indicators of treatment, nutritional status evaluation and long-term complications development.

Objective To unravel the possible mechanism of the role of recombinant human high mobility group box 1 (rhHMGB1) protein in regulating the angiogenesis of endothelial cells. Methods Endothelial cells were divided into the control group, bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) supernatant group and rhHMGB1 group. The proliferation and survival of endothelial cells were detected by cell counting kit(CCK)-8 assay. The relative expression levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), Yes-associated protein (YAP), CD31 and hypoxia inducible factor (HIF)-1α proteins were determined by Western blot. The relative expression levels of VEGF, YAP, CD31 and HIF-1α messenger RNA (mRNA) were detected by real-time fluorescent quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). The migration ability of endothelial cells was assessed by Transwell chamber test. The localization of YAP was detected by immunofluorescence staining. Results Compared with the control group, the migration rate of endothelial cells was increased in the rhHMGB1 group (

Objective To investigate the feasibility and efficacy of mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) in the management of chronic pain among military personnel stationed in plateau area of China. Methods Military personnel who had been stationed at an altitude ranging from 3 300 to 3 500 meters for over four months and suffered from chronic pain were selected as the study subjects by the judgment sampling method. A total of 51 individuals were assigned to the control group, and 53 individuals were assigned to the MBSR group using the random number table method. Individuals of the control group received conventional pain management, while the MBSR group received an additional eight-week MBSR training alongside conventional management. Pain, mindfulness levels, mood state, and psychological resilience of individuals were assessed before and 12 weeks after the intervention using the Brief Pain Inventory (BPI), the Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire-Short Form, the Profile of Mood States, and the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale. Results After the intervention, the BPI scores, and the scores of the pain intensity and pain impact dimensions of individuals in the MBSR group were lower than those in the control group (all P<0.01). The reductions in these three scores were greater in the MBSR group than those in the control group (all P<0.01). Meanwhile, individuals in the MBSR group showed superior improvements in the mindfulness level score, the total mood disturbance, and the psychological resilience score compared with the control group (all P<0.05). The multiple linear regression analysis results showed that the pre-intervention BPI score, post-intervention changes in mindfulness levels, headache and lower back pain were influencing factors for the improvement of the BPI score in the MBSR group individuals (all P<0.05). Conclusion Conducting MBSR in military units in plateau areas is an effective approach for alleviating chronic pain. The pain relief effect is more pronounced in individuals with higher initial pain scores, a greater increase in mindfulness scores after training, and those with headache and low back pain.

Objective To analyse the clinical efficiency of endolymphatic sac surgery (ESS) in the management of Meniere’s disease (MD). Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on 274 patients with MD who were hospitalized for treatment in Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hospital, Sun Yat-Sen University from January 2009 to August 2023. All patients received lifestyle management and drug treatment such as diuretics. For those whose conditions were not well controlled 3 to 6 months after the initial treatment, intratympanic glucocorticoid (ITG) or ESS treatment was carried out. Six months after the treatment, the classes of vertigo relief and hearing changes in the patients were evaluated. After adjusting the confounding factors through propensity score matching (PSM), the impact of ESS on the prognosis of MD patients was evaluated. Results Among 274 patients, 194 and 80 patients underwent ITG and ESS, respectively. Eighty patients were enrolled into each group after PSM. Before and after PSM, the rate of patients reaching vertigo relief class A in ESS group was higher than that in the ITG group (P=0.004); there was no significant difference in hearing preservation between the two groups. Kaplan-Meier curve analysis showed that vertigo relief in the ESS group was better than that in the ITG group (P=0.029); there was no statistically significant difference in hearing preservation between the two groups. Conclusion When the initial treatment for patients with MD is ineffective, choosing ESS is more beneficial than ITG for controlling vertigo.
