Objective To observe the effects of lactobacillus complex capsules in patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD). Methods A hundred AECOPD patients were divided into 2 groups: the therapy group(n = 50) with conventional and lactobacillus complex capsules therapy, and the control group with conventional therapy only. Parameters before and after therapy were compared, which included length of hospital stay, arterial blood gases, dyspnea grade, respiratory function test, markers of inflammation, anorexia score, diarrhea, fungi infection, breathing rate, death rate and side-effects of lactobacillus complex capsules. Results After 7 days of treatment, the blood leukocyte count and neutrophil ratio in the therapy group were lower than that of the control group (P < 0.05). The rate of anorexia score ≤ 2 in the therapy group was higher than that of the control group (P < 0.05). There were no differences in the rest parameters among the two groups(P > 0.05). There were no side-effects, such as skin rash and diarrhea, to be observed in the therapy group. Conclusion Oral lactobacillus complex capsule can be safe, anti-infective and improve appetite in patients with AECOPD.

Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of combined electroacupuncture and nerve growth factor (NGF) injection at acupoints in the treatment of common fibular nerve paralysis and provide evidences for integrative Chinese & western medicine against diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN). Methods: Forty subjects were randomized into two groups and NGF injection; and control group was given herbal suffocation, oral Dibazol and compound vitamin B and Mecobalamin Injection. The clinical symptoms and nerve conduction velocity were observed and compared. Results: The cure rate was higher in treatment group than in control group (P<0.05); after treatment, the nerve conduction velocity was improved in both groups (P<0.01), with a significant improvement in treatment group than in control group (P<0.01). Conclusion: Combined electro-acupuncture and NGF injection at acupoints is quite effective in the treatment of common fibular nerve paralysis.

Objective To observe the effects of lactobacillus complex capsules in patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) and different degrees anorexia. Methods 100 anorexia score 1 and 100 anorexia score 2-5 AECOPD patients were divided into 4 groups: the therapy group 1 (anorexia score 1,n = 50) and the therapy group 2 (anorexia score 2-5,n = 50) with conventional and lactobacillus complex capsules therapy, the control group 1 (anorexia score 1, n = 50) and the control group 2 (anorexia score 2-5,n = 50) with conventional therapy. Parameters were recorded, which include length of hospital stay , markers of inflammation , arterial blood gases , lung function , clinical symptoms , death rate and side-effects of lactobacillus complex capsules. Results After treatment, WBC, trophil ratio, length of hospital stay in the therapy group 2 were lower than the control group 2(P < 0.05). The PCO2 in the therapy group 1 was lower than the control group 1 (P < 0.05). There were no differences in the rest parameters between the two control groups and the two therapy groups (P > 0.05). No side-effects like rashes, diarrhea, were observed in the two therapy groups. Conclusion For anorexia patients with AECOPD, oral lactobacillus complex capsules can safely control infection and reduce length of hospital stay.

Objective To investigate the mechanism of the soluble A? oligomers-induced alteration of synaptic proteins. Methods This study applied immunocytochemistry technique to investigate the changes of the expression of postsynaptic density-95(PSD-95) in primary hippocampal neurons, which was exposed to A?_ 25-35 after NMDAR antagonist or agonist treatment. Results The results showed that A?_ 25-35 downregulated PSD-95 protein in a dose- and time-dependent manner. Treatment of cells with MK801 (a general NMDA receptor antagonist) prevented A?-induced PSD-95 degradation. Moreover, when extrasynaptic NMDA receptors were blocked by ifenprodil (a NR2B subunit specific antagonist), the A?-induced downregulation of PSD-95 was significantly attenuated. Whereas, when synaptic NMDA receptors were blocked by bicuculline (a GABA receptor antagonist) in combination with MK801, the PSD-95 degradation did not change significantly. Conclusion The results suggest that A?-induced downregulation of PSD-95 depends on NMDAR activity, and extrasynaptic NMDA receptors may be involved in A?-induced synaptic protein degradation.

Objective To explore the correlation between COX-2 and Ki-67 expression and microvessel density in primary gastric cancer tissue and clinicopathological parameters and to investigate their effect on postoperative gastric cancer recurrence. Methods Forty-eight postoperative recurrent gastric cancer patients were enrolled in this study, their clinicopathologic characters of primary tumors were analyzed retrospectively and compared with 48 cases without recurrence. Expression of COX-2 and Ki-67 and microvessel density ( MVD) in gastric cancer tissue were detected by immunohistochemical method. Risk factors correlated with tumor recurrence were studied by univariate and multivariate analysis. Results Expression of COX-2, Ki-67 label index (LI) and MVD were correlated with each other, and they were all correlated with depth of invasion and TNM stages in gastric cancer tissue. Patients with pelvic metastatic lymph node, cancer invasion to serosa, of Borrmann III or IV, high COX-2 and MVD expression are on high risk of recurrence (P

Objective To investigate the correlation between clinicopathologic factors and peritoneal dissemination from gastric cancer, and the impact of palliative resection on the prognosis of patients with gastric cancer complicated by peritoneal dissemination. Methods Based on our database built in 1994, the clinicopathologic data and the result of follow-up of all gastric cancer patients were analyzed retrospectively using the software of SPSS. Results One hundred and five out of 792 (13. 3% ) patients with primary gastric cancer were found complicated with peritoneal dissemination. The clinicopathologic factors in patients with peritoneal dissemination were significantly correlated with primary tumor penetrating through serosa, lymph node metastasis, primary tumor involving whole stomach, undifferentiated carcinoma, Borrmann IV and female gender (P

Objective To investigate the correlated factors of peritoneal dissemination and lympah node metastasis from gastric cancer, the prognosis of patients with peritoneal dissemination and N_2 lymph node metastasis, and the impact of palliative surgery on the prognosis. Methods Based on our database built from 1994, the clinicopathologic data and the outcomes of the follow-up were analyzed respectively. Results The clinicopathologic factors correlated with peritoneal dissemination included T_4, hepatic metastasis, the primary tumor involving the whole stomach, undifferentiated carcinoma, female sex and lymph node metastasis, while those correlated with lymph node metastasis included the primary tumor involving the whole stomach, Borrmann III, T_2, T_3 and T_4, hepatic metastasis and peritoneal dissemination (P

ObjectiveTo investigate the diagnostic value of multi-slice spiral CT (MSCT) 3D reconstruction and virtual endoscope technology on ear temporal diseases.MethodsOne hundred and forty patients suspected with ear temporal diseases were examined with MSCT,and all the scanned images were 3D reconstructed and processed by virtual endoscopy.ResultsIn 140 patients,97 cases were detected with ear temporal disease, including 58 cases with acute and chronic otitis media,20 cases with artificially cochlear placement evaluation,2 cases with concha and middle ear malformations and 17 cases with temporal bone injury.MSCT 3D reconstruction and virtual endoscope technology could clearly show the location, scope and form of the lesions and structure relationships with nearby tissues.ConclusionsMSCT 3D reconstruction and virtual endoscope technology have important value on diagnosing ear temporal diseases.
