BACKGROUND:Erythropoietin and bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells have been shown to affect myocardial apoptosis. However, few studies concerned their combined application to sepsis-related myocardial injury. OBJECTIVE:To observe the effects of the combination of erythropoietin and bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells on pathology and apoptosis of sepsis rat cardiomyocytes. METHODS:A total of 50 Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly selected and assigned to five groups (n=10). Sepsis models were established by cecal ligation perforation method. Rat models in the bone marrow mesenchymal stem cellgroup, erythropoietin group and erythropoietin+bone marrow mesenchymal stem cellgroup were respectively treated with bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells, erythropoietin and erythropoietin+bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells immediately after model induction via intraperitoneal injection or caudal vein. Model group received cecum ligation and puncture. Control group did not undergo any treatment after the abdomen was opened. Model and control groups were infused with an equal volume of physiological saline via caudal vein. At 24 hours, experimental animals were sacrificed by anesthesia. Myocardial specimens were col ected. Myocardial appearance was observed using hematoxylin-eosin staining. Bax, Caspase-3 and Bcl-2 were tested by western blot assay. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Hematoxylin-eosin staining:cardiomyocytes were regularly arranged, showing integrated structure in the control group. Extensive myocardial fiber breakage, disordered arrangement, cardiomyocyte swel ing or shrinkage, and vacuolar degeneration were observed in the model group. Moreover, myocardial interstitial vascular congestion, edema, and inflammatory cellinfiltration were visible. Myocardial tissue was similar between erythropoietin and bone marrow mesenchymal stem cellgroups, with the presence of mild inflammatory cellinfiltration and scattered normal cardiomyocytes. In the erythropoietin+bone marrow mesenchymal stem cellgroup, cardiomyocytes were slightly damaged. Interstitial vascular congestion was not apparent, and a few inflammatory cells infiltrated. Western blot assay results demonstrated that Bcl-2 protein expression was significantly higher (P<0.01), but Bax and Caspase-3 protein expression was lower (P<0.05) in the erythropoietin+bone marrow mesenchymal stem cellgroup than in the erythropoietin, model and control groups. The combination of erythropoietin and bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells in treatment of sepsis-related myocardial injury could lessen myocardial pathological changes, and inhibit cardiomyocyte apoptosis. The mechanisms maybe exert by upregulating anti-apoptotic protein expression and downregulating apoptotic protein expression.

Objective To explore the status of intracranial aneurysms screened by CTA among the population with family history of stroke. Methods 200 patients including 108 men and 92 women in our hospital were involved, who had a family history of stroke.Head CTA examination, physical examination and laboratory tests were performed. Results 200 male and female had no statistical significance in demographic characteristics, past medical history and physical testing (P>0.05);in lifestyle, smoking and drinking prevalence among male were higher than female (P<0.05),and drug-usage rate of female were higher than male (P<0.05).27 cases (13.5 ¥)had intracranial aneurysms, including 13 male cases (12.03 %) and 14 females cases(15.22 %),and there was one occurred aneurysm rupture and subarachnoid hemorrhage, the prevalence rate of aneurysm rupture was 87%.The 27 intracranial aneurysms cases had 29 CPC aneurysms, with 2 cases had two aneurysms. The number of aneurysm diameter <3 mm were 7 (24.14%),3 7 mm diameter were 12 (41.38%),and >7 mm were 10 (34.48%).Classified by the morphology, there were 7 (24.14%) fusiform aneurysm,22 (75.86%) cystic,3 (10.34%) small drops of blood sample. Conclusion CTA is a noninvasive and effective method for intracranial aneurysm, can provide additional valuable diagnostic information particularly for emergency of aneurysm screening.

Background and Objectives:
Circulating endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) participate in vascular repair and predict cardiovascular outcomes. The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between EPCs and abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs).
Methods:
and Results: Patients (age 67±9.41 years) suffering from AAAs (aortic diameters 58.09±11.24 mm) were prospectively enrolled in this study. All patients received endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR). Blood samples were taken preoperatively and 14 days after surgery from patients with aortic aneurysms. Samples were also obtained from age-matched control subjects. Circulating EPCs were defined as those cells that were double positive for CD34 and CD309. Rat models of AAA formation were generated by the peri-adventitial elastase application of either saline solution (control; n=10), or porcine pancreatic elastase (PPE; n=14). The aortas were analyzed using an ultrasonic video system and immunohistochemistry. The levels of CD34+/CD309+ cells in the peripheral blood mononuclear cell populations were measured by flow cytometry. The baseline numbers of circulating EPCs (CD34+/CD309+) in the peripheral blood were significantly smaller in AAA patients compared with control subjects. The number of EPCs doubled by the 14th day after EVAR. A total of 78.57% of rats in the PPE group (11/14) formed AAAs (dilation ratio >150%). The numbers of EPCs from defined AAA rats were significantly decreased compared with the control group.
Conclusions
EPC levels may be useful for monitoring abdominal aorta aneurysms and rise after EVAR in patients with aortic aneurysms, and might contribute to the rapid endothelialization of vessels.
