Objective To analyze the effect of malaria surveillance and evaluate the surveillance measure in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region from 1995 to 2004 so as to provide scientific basis for formulating control strategy at the late-stage of malaria control. Methods The data on blood smear examination of febrile patients among local residents, focus residents and mobile population in 92 counties from 1995 to 2004 were collected, described and analyzed. Results The totals of 10920395,427600,246159 and 253530 slides in local residents, focus residents, returned population and endemic population were examined. The average positive rates of blood examination were 0.009%,0.079%,1.386% and 0.324%,respectively. The indigenous cases and imported cases accounted for 23.29% (1285/5517) and 76.71% (4232/5517) of the total malaria cases respectively. Conclusions The malaria incidence in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has been under 1/10000 for 17 years. There is less indigenous malaria in Guangxi. The imported malaria cases are dominated and scattered in whole Region. The secondary cases of imported malaria is very low. The results show that the present surveillance system and control programs are effective for monitoring the epidemic situation of malaria.

Objective To confirm existence of Sarcocystis suihominis and possible transmission cycle between human and pigs. Methods Based on the human-pig-human infection cycle of Sarcocystis suihominis, feces of naturally infected pigs were collected and over 10 000 sporocysts were received by flotation technique, which were mixed with fodder to infect a normal pig. Fresh pork meat containing mature sarcocysts was chopped into pieces and swallowed by a volunteer (the first author of this paper) with about 71 000 sporocysts. Symptoms and development of the parasites after infection were observed. Results The volunteer showed abdominal distension in about 5 hours after infection, with watery diarrhea 13 times from the 8th to 36th hour, vomiting 4 times, chilling and fever with a temperature of 38.5℃, dizziness, headache, joint and muscle ache, epigastralgia, and anorexia. Un-sporized sporocysts were found in the faces 10 days after infection and sporocysts appeared on the 12th day. The average size of sporocysts was 11.9(8.8-14.5)?m?9.2(7.5-12.5) ?m. The infected pig showed a slight anorexia, fatigue, constipation, hair loosen in 5~8 days after infection, and returned normal on the 17th day. The average size of the sarcocysts was 299.2(175-575)?m?62.3(30-102.5)?m. Size of bradyzoites was 11.5(9.5-13.5)?m?4.1(2.8-5.0)?m. The volunteer was treated with acetylspiramycin for 15 days(0.2 g/time, 4 times/d) after 46 days of infection, and fecal examination turned negative 30 days later. Conclusion There is a man-pig cycle for Sarcocystis suihominis in Guangxi.

Aim To investigate anti-hepatic fibrotic mechanism of Acanthus ilicifolius alkaloid A ( HBOA ) involved in high mobility group box 1 ( HMGB1 ) . Methods A hepatic fibrosis model of rat was estab-lished by the olive oil of CCl4 for 12 weeks. Then, at the 8th week, the successful model rats were randomly divided into model control group, colchicine group, HBOA high-dose group and HBOA low-dose group. From the 9th week, the rats in each group were treated with the drugs daily for 4 weeks respectively. The changes of liver histopathology and collagen were ob-served by HE staining and Masson staining, and the serum indicators including aspartate aminotransferase (AST),alanine aminotransferase(ALT) , total biliru-bin ( T-BIL ) , HMGB1 , interleukin-1β( IL-1β) and tumor necrosis factor-α( TNF-α) were determined. Moreover , the protein of HMGB1 in liver was examined by immunohistochemistry, and the expression of HMGB1 mRNA was measured by real-time fluores-cence quantitative PCR. Results Compared with the model control group,HBOA high-dose and HBOA low-dose groups significantly attenuated the fibrotic degree induced by CCl4 , markedly decreased the levels of ALT, AST, T-BIL, HMGB1, IL-1β, TNF-α. Moreo-ver, the expression of HMGB1 protein and mRNA in liver was decreased. And furthermore, serum HMGB1 level had significant positive correlation with IL-1β, TNF-α,ALT,AST and T-BIL. Conclusion HBOA has beneficial effects against liver fibrosis in rat which is induced by CCl4 , the mechanisms may be related to the inhibition of inflammatory response to HMGB1 .

Objective To investigate the effect of blastocyst quality on the strategy of single blastocyst transfer in frozen-thawed cycles. Methods A retrospective analysis was performed in Reproductive Medicine Center, Maternal and Child Health Hospital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on clinical data of single frozen-thawed blastocyst transfer cycles from January 2008 to December 2013. All cycles were divided into four groups (AA, AB/BA, BB, BC/CB) according to the blastocyst score, then the clinical outcomes were compared between groups. And on this basis, the clinical outcomes were further explored when the group of outcomes with single blastocyst transfer wasn′t ideal, which would diverted to transfer two blastocyst. Results In single frozen blastocyst transfer cycles, the clinical pregnancy rate of each group with the blastocyst scored AA, AB/BA, BB, BC/CB were 61.4%(470/765), 51.2%(330/645), 40.5%(407/1 005), 22.9%(60/262), live births rate in each group were 52.2%(399/765), 41.2%(266/645), 30.4%(306/1 005), 13.7%(36/262), and the abortion rate were 13.6%(64/470), 16.7%(55/330), 21.4%(87/407), 35.0%(21/60), separately. This showed that the clinical pregnancy rate and live births rate decreased significantly with the decline of blastocyst quality (P<0.01), but the abortion rate showed significant upward trend (P<0.01). When single blastocyst scored≥BB grade transferred, an acceptable clinical pregnancy rate (>40%) and live births rate (>30%) could be obtained, however, the clinical pregnancy rate of 22.9% and live births rate of 13.7%could only be acquired when blastocyst scored BC/CB only transferred one embryo, which significant lower than those of each group scored ≥BB grade (P<0.01). So, after that, the blastocyst scored BC/CB were further divided into two groups (single blastocyst transferred versus two blastocyst transferred) to investigate, then the result showed that the clinical pregnancy rate [22.9%versus 38.5%(67/174), P<0.01] and live births rate [13.7%versus 30.5%(16/67), P<0.01] were significantly increased in the group of two blastocyst transferred compared with the group of one blastocyst transferred, and the abortion rate was also significantly decreased from 35.0%to 17.9%(12/67;P<0.05). So when two blastocyst scored BC/CB were transferred, the clinical outcomes were similar to the group of one blastocyst scored BB transferred (P>0.05). Conclusions Of single blastocyst transfer in frozen-thawed cycles, the clinical pregnancy rate and liver births rate showed significant upward trend, but the abortion rate showed significant downward trend, with the decline of blastocyst quality. When the blastocyst scored ≥BB grade, the single blastocyst transfer could be considered to be performed.
