1.The Healing Effect of Keratocyne(R) on Corneal Diseases.
Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1988;29(4):517-520
Keratocyne(R) is the complex of cystine and vitamine B6. Cystine is collagenase inhibitor and vitamine B6 is essential to the metabolism of cystine. We administered Keratocyne(R) orally combined with specific topical therapy to investigate its healing effect on various corneal diseases. The results were as follows: 1. The cases which improved after Keratocyne(R) administration were 15 patients out of 22 patients. 2. No untoward side effects were observed. We concluded that Keratocyne(R) was effective on certain corneal diseases which released collagenase.

Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1988;29(4):493-497
Twenty-too patients were treated with Naaxia. Of these, 11 patients had vernal conjunctivitis and 8 patients had chronic allergic conjunctivitis. 19 patients(86.4%) achieved beneficial effect. The most frequent side effect was mild burning sensation after instillation and no systemic side effect was found.

3.Blinking Frequency in Normal and Dry Eye.
Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1988;29(4):477-480
Spontaneous blinking of a normal human being has a regular rhythm, but in dry eye syndrome, unstable tear film, foreign body sensation, and corneal erosion, etc. may stimulate the reflex blinking, resulting in increased blinking frequency. Blinking frequency of 160 normal persons and that of 20 dry eye syndrome patients were checked to investigate the differences of blinking frequency between normal and dry eyes. Results are as follows; 1. Average blinking frequency in normal male and female group was 22.7 +/- 11.4 per min. and 25.6 +/- 12.3 per min. respectively. 2. There was no sexual difference in normal group. 3. Average blinking frequency of dry eye patients was 38.4 +/- 12.0 per min. which was significantly higher than that of normal control group, 26.5 +/- 12.3 per min.

Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1988;29(4):659-662
Refractions were performed in healthy 60 newborn babies, 31 males and 29 females, by retinoscopy after instillation of 1% tropicamide in order to investigate the distribution of refractive states of newborn babies. Average refractive error is +1.51 +/- 2.23D in male, +1.93 +/- 1.78D in female, and +1.17 +/- 2.03D in general. 72.5% of them were hypermetropia, 10.0% were emmetropia, and 12.5% were myopia. There was no significant difference according to sex, laterality, birth weight, and method of delivery(p>0.1).

There have been ongoing social discussions on revision of the abortion law since the Constitutional Court ruled it nonconformity to the constitution on April 11, 2019. Thus, Korean Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Korean Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine, Korean College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and Korean Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists organized 'special committee for abortion law' to support social discussion on the revision of the abortion law, and they prepared official opinions of obstetrics for medical issues including doctors' right to refuse abortion. In the future, the committee will continue to adapt to changes of medical environment especially after the revision of the abortion law by collecting its members' feedbacks.
