Endoscopic sinus surgery is effective to nasal sinus mucocele with eye symptoms as main manifestation. It is very importment to raise the awareness of the disease and to prompt imaging examination. Three cases were reviewed. One mucocele was found in the frontal sinus ethmoid sinus,1 in the fronto-ethmoid sinus and 1 in the spheno-ethmoid sinus. All cases were preoperatively diagnosed by CT, MRI or intranasal endoscopy. Nasal sinus mucocele with eye symptoms as main manifestation should be early diagnosed. Endoscopic sinus surgery is a safe and effective method for the treatment of nasal sinus mucocele, and could be the primary choice for it. All cases were treated by nasal endoscopic sinus surgery. The majority of symptoms, such as exophthalmos, epiphora and diplopia, disappeared in all patients. However, vision recovery was observed only in some patients.

Object To study the effects of WUZI SIWU GUASHITANG (WT) against multi glycosides of Tripterygium wilfordii Hook. f. (GTW) induced genital system toxicity in male rats and its mechanism. Methods Male rats in treatment groups were treated respectively with a 80 days oral administration of large , middle and small doses of WT plus a fixed dose of GTW. The rats as control were treated with GTW alone or saline. Thereafter, the changes in testis organ index, the number of spermatozoa, the rate of movable spermatozoa and the structure of spermatogenic cell epithlium were observed and the serum testosterone level was determined by IRMA. Then the comparison was made between treatment and control groups as to above variables. Results As compared with GTW group, large or middle dose of WT significantly increased the weight of testis, the number of spermatozoa and the rate of movable spermatozoa. Large dose of WT could relieve the damage of GTW to the spermatogenic cell epithelium completely and keep the serum testosterone at normal level. Conclusion The combined use of GTW with WT is very useful in relief of GTW induced adverse reactions of genital system in male rats. The mechanism by which WT exerts the counteractive effects is related to protecting the spermatogenic cell epithelium from being damaged by GTW, and keeping the serum testosterone at normal level.

Objective To determine whether fetal rats exposure to isoflurane will cause postnatal learning and memory deficits, and change Bcl-2/Bax ratio in the hippocampus CA1 and retrosplenial cortex in fetal brain of rats. Methods Twenty-eight Sprague Dawley pregnant rats at gestation day 21 (E21) were randomly divided into isoflurane treatment group(n=14) and sham control group(n=14). Rats in isoflurane treatment group were ex-posed to 1.3% isoflurane in a carrying gas of 30% oxygen, balance nitrogen for 6 h in a warmed, humidified cham-ber. For sham control group, animals were treated at the same condition with only carrying gas. In behavior study, the spatial learning and memory ability at juvenile ages was determined with the Morris Water Maze(MWM). In immunohistochemistry study, changes of Bcl-2 and Bax expression in hippocampus CA1 and retrosplenial cortex in the fetus brain after isoflurane treatment at 2 hours was performed by using immunofluorecence staining. Results In the MWM training, the escape latency to platform in the place trials showed no significant difference between the two groups, but the postnatal rats in 1.3% isoflurane group showed obviously improved retention of memory by spending more percentage of time swimming in the probe quadrant as compared to the control animals ((42.33±2.31) s vs (33.2±2.15) s, t=2.21, P<0.05) in the probe test. Compared to controls, 1.3% isoflu-rane exposure for 6 h to the pregnant rats increased the intensity of Bcl-2, decreased the intensity of Bax, and sig-nificantly increased the Bcl-2/Bax ratio in the fetal hippocampal CA1 region (4.40±0. 86 vs 1.31±0.32, t=3. 378, P<0.01) and the fetal retrosplenial cortex (5.07±1.27 vs 1.47±0.48, t=2.656, P < 0.05) respec-tively. Conclusion 1.3% isoflurane exposure in pregnant rats significantly improves the spatial retention memo-ry of their rat pups at a juvenile age and increases the Bcl-2/Bax ratio in the hippocampal CA1 region and the ret-resplenial cortex in the fetal rat brains.

Chinese Pharmacological Bulletin 2017;33(8):1079-1085
Aim To investigate the neuroprotective effects of osthole(Ost)on the primary cultured cortical neurons transfected with APP595/596 gene and its underlying mechanism. Methods Neonatal mouse cortical neurons were transfected with APP595/596 gene to establish AD cell models for the further study. Then, the cell viability was detected by CCK-8 assay, and the leakage of lactate dehydrogenase(LDH)was assayed by LDH kit to evaluate the injury degree.Transferase-mediated nick end labeling(TUNEL)was used to evaluate the cell apoptosis. The expression of β-amyloid peptide(Aβ)and β-site APP cleaving enzyme 1(BACE1)was measured by immunofluorescence, while the miRNA-107 was measured by RT-PCR.Results Compared to model group,Ost could significantly improve the neurons viability, decrease the LDH release and prevent the apoptosis.Ost also inhibited the expression of Aβ and BACE1 at protein level, while enhanced the expression of miRNA-107 at gene level. Conclusion Ost plays a neuroprotective role in neurons transfected with APP595/596 gene in part through up-regulating miRNA-107.

Journal of Clinical Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery 2013;27(23):1287-1290
OBJECTIVE:
To investigate the feasibility and efficacy of endoscopic sinus surgery for sinonasal malignancy.
METHOD:
Clinical data of 40 cases of sinonasal malignancy treated in our hospital from January 2007 to December 2011 were retrospectively analyzed. The pathological types encountered were: 5 cases of malignant transformation of sinonasal inverted papilloma, 2 cases of maxillary sinus carcinoma, 3 cases of ethmoid sinus carcinoma, 11 cases of mucosal melanoma, 7 cases of olfactory neuroblastoma, 2 cases of neuroendocrine carcinoma, 4 cases of myoepithelial carcinoma, 3 cases of adenoid cystic carcinoma, 1 case of malignant hemangiopericytoma. These patients were operated on either by an exclusive endoscopic surgery or endoscopic surgery with a complementary external approach. Thirty-two patients received adjuvant radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy.
RESULT:
All the patients were followed up for a period of 1 to 5 years after operation, of which 18 cases survived for more than three years. Four cases recurred after six months to two years, but the result was satisfactory after revision endoscopic sinus surgery. Three cases occurred cervical lymph node metastasis, of which 2 cases received neck dissection and 1 case received chemotherapy and radiotherapy due to no surgical indications. Four cases occurred distant metastasis. Eight cases died of tumor until the last follow-up. The other 21 cases occurred no recurrence and metastasis during follow-up period.
CONCLUSION
Endoscopic sinus surgery is an effective method for sinonasal malignancy. Appropriate indication must be carefully selected for malignant tumor. Combined treatment based on surgery should be adopted to it.
