1.RAPID SCREENING WITH A RECOMBINANT ANTIGEN (rK39) FOR DIAGNOSIS OF VISCERAL LEISHMANIASIS USING DIPSTICK
Chinese Journal of Parasitology and Parasitic Diseases 2000;18(3):155-158
[Objective] To evaluate the diagnostic value of the recombinant antigen of 39 amino acid repeats encoded by a kinesin-like gene of Leishmania changasi (rK39) in serodiagnosis of visceral leishmaniasis (VL). [Methods] In Kashi, Xinjiang, 13 VL patients with splenomegaly and bone marrow aspirate culture positive were subjected to dipstick assay. A drop of whole blood or serum from patient was placed at the absorbing pad at the bottom of the dipstick.Flooding of the bottom protein with buffer allows serum proteins to migrate upwards, producing the positive band and Western blot analysis of rK39 subsequently performed with the sera collected. [Results] The end-point titers of antirK39 antibodies of these sera were determined by ELISA and found to fall within the range of 10-2 to 10-4, which were consistent with the intensity of their reaction with rK39 in dipstick assay. The positive sera could also recognize the specific rK39 band as analyzed by Western blot analysis. [Conclusion] The rK39 dipstick assay is more rapid, specific, sensitive and less invasive than the conventional methods of diagnosis for VL in the areas of low endemicity.

Objective: To determine the predictive value of excision repair cross complement 1 (ERCC1) expression in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and the sensitivity of NSCLC to non-cisplatin based chemo-therapy and cisplatin based chemotherapy. Methods: The expression of ERCC1 was examined by immunohis-tochemical technique in 130 patients with advanced NSCLC seen in our hospital between February 1st 2006 and October 30th 2007. These 130 patients were divied into three groups. Patients in group A (n=68) had neg-ative ERCC1 expression and received cisplatin based chemotherapy. Patients in group B (n=31) had positive expression of ERCC1 and received non-cisplatin based chemotherapy. Patients in group C (n=31) had posi-tive expression of ERCC1 and received cisplatin based chemotherapy. Results: The expression rate of ER-CC1 was 62 of 130 (47.8%). The rate of ERCC1 in pulmonary adenocarcinoma was higher than that in squa-mous carcinoma. The response rates of chemotherapy in group A, B, and C group were 58.8 %, 51.6%, and 41.5%, respecitvely. There was no significant difference in the response rate between group A and group B (X~2=0.451, P=0.502). There was a significant difference in the response rate between group A and group C (X~2= 6.011, P=0.014). The response rate in group B was higher than that in group C (X~2=2.384, P=1.123). The average survival time in group A, group B, and group C were 12.0 months, 11.0 months, and 7.8 months, respecit-vely. There was no significant difference in patient survival between group A and group B (X~2=3.809, P=0.051). There was significant difference in patient survival between group A and group C (X~2=46.368, P=0.000). Con-clusion: ERCC1 may be an important indicator of the sensitivity of advanced NSCLC to cisplatin or non-cisplat-in based chemotherapy.

Chinese Mental Health Journal 1992;0(01):-
Objective:To investigate the knowledge, attitudes and practice of child sexual abuse (CSA) prevention education in parents of elementary school pupils.Method:Two hundred and seventy one parents were surveyed by anonymous self-administered questionnaire in five classes of grade 1 to grade 5 of a elementary school. The questions about awareness of CSA and communications on how to prevent CSA with their children were asked.Result:Among this sample, 93.6% of parents approved of school CSA prevention education. Overall, about half parents lack of knowledge of CSA prevention, the communications with their children were also not enough. Only 1.8% of parents had provided books or audiovisuals about CSA prevention for their children. The scores of knowledge, attitudes and practice of CSA prevention education of parents whose parents addressed this in their childhood were significantly higher than those of parents who had no this experience. Conclusions:The research of CSA prevention education in elementary school should be paid more attention, to produce related books and audiovisuals as soon as possible, to increase parents' awareness of CSA prevention.

Cancer Research and Clinic 2000;0(06):-
Objective To investigate the culture and proliferation of dendritic cells from human cord blood and malignant pleural effusions and identify the phenotype and the function of them in vitro. Methods Existing DCs were obtained from cord blood and malignant pleural effusions. The DCs were cultured with IL-4, GM-CSF and TNF-?. The morphological properties of DCs were observed by invert optical microscope. The phenotypes of DCs were analysed by flow cytometry. The proliferative bioactivities of T cells activated by DCs were observed with mixed lymphocyte reaction (MLR). Results No remarkable differences were found in the morphology and cellular phenotype of the DC, derived from two different sources, but there was remarkable difference between their culture time. The DCs from two different sources could activate homologous lymphocytes to proliferate mostly. But the capacity to stimulate the proliferation of homologous lymphocytes had remarkable difference. Conclusion Mature DCs could be induced from cord blood and malignant pleural effusions.

Objective To know the distribution of arsenic and trace elements in drinking water in the endemic arsenism areas in Shanyin County, Shanxi Province. Methods Drinking water samples were collected from the chronic endemic arsenic poisoning areas of Silizhuang and Shanghexi, Shanyin County, Shanxi Province and HPLC-HG-AFS system was used to analyze the arsenic contents, valence and speciation. The trace elements were determined by ICP-MS. The data were analyzed by SPSS13.0 for windows. Results A total of 63 drinking water samples were determined, 39.68% of them exceeded the standard limit of arsenic level, inorganic arsenic was the main arsenical in drinking water, iAs3+/(iAs3++iAs5+) ratio was 56.17% in the water sample (arsenic was higher than 50 ?g/L) . The contents of Fe, Mn, Hg, Se and Pb in part of drinking water samples exceed the standard limits. No significant difference was seen between the arsenic results determined by HPLC-HG-AFS and ICP-MS. Conclusion Arsenic contamination of drinking water in Shanyin County, Shanxi Province is severe. The most frequently seen arsenic valence state in drinking water is iAs3+. Some trace elements in part of drinking water samples exceed the standard limits, this may aggravate arsenic poisoning.
