Journal of Acupuncture and Tuina Science 2004;2(3):43-46
Sixty lumbar intervertebral disc herniation (LDH) cases were treated with electroacupuncture on such major points as Jiaji ( Ex-B 2) in L4, L5, and S1 and Huantiao (GB 30) as well as adjunctive corresponding points in the affected area plus short-lever micro-adjustment manipulation. Another 60 cases in the control group were treated with tra-ction. After three treatment courses, the former got the effective rate of 93.3%, while the latter only got 77.8%. The two groups have a statistical difference in therapeutic effect (P<0.05).

INTRODUCTION:
Pericardiocentesis is a potentially life-saving procedure. We compared two low-cost models-an agar-based model and a novel model, Centesys-in terms of ultrasound image quality and realism, effectiveness of the model, and learners' confidence and satisfaction after training.
METHODS:
In this pilot randomised 2x2 crossover trial stratified by physician seniority, participants were assigned to undergo pericardiocentesis training either with the agar-based or Centesys model first, followed by the other model. Participants were asked to rate their confidence in performing ultrasound-guided pericardiocentesis, clarity and realism of cardiac structures on ultrasound imaging, and satisfaction on a 7-point Likert scale before and after training with each model.
RESULTS:
Twenty participants with median postgraduate year of 4 (interquartile range [IQR] 3.75-6) years were recruited. Pre-training, participants rated themselves a median score of 2.5 (IQR 2-4) for level of confidence in performing pericardiocentesis, which improved to 5 (IQR 4-6) post-training with Centesys (
CONCLUSION
Centesys achieved greater learner satisfaction as compared to the agar-based model, and was an effective tool for teaching ultrasound-guided pericardiocentesis and drain insertion.

Objective To investigate whether cisplatin induces tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α)secretion in human head and neck squamous cell carcinoma(HNSCC)cells to trigger RIP1/RIP3/MLKL-dependent necroptosis of the cells. Methods HNSCC cell lines HN4 and SCC4 treated with cisplatin(CDDP)or the combined treatment with CDDP and z-VAD-fmk(a caspase inhibitor)or Nec-1(a necroptosis inhibitor)for 24 h were examined for changes in cell viability using CCK8 assay and expressions of caspase-8 and necroptosis pathway proteins(RIP1/RIP3/MLKL)using Western blotting. The changes in migration of the cells were assessed with cell scratch assay, and the expressions of epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT)marker proteins N-cadherin,vimentin,and E-cadherin as well as the expressions of NF-κB(p65)and TNF-α were detected with Western blotting. Results The IC50 of cisplatin was 10 μg/mL in HN4 cells and 15 μg/mL in SCC4 cells.Cisplatin treatment significantly decreased the expressions of caspase-8,N-cadherin and vimentin and increased the expressions of E-cadherin,the necroptosis pathway proteins(RIP1/RIP3/MLKL),TNF-α,and NF-κB(p65),and these changes were obviously inhibited by treatment with Nec-1.Cisplatin stimulation also significantly lowered migration of the cells, and this inhibitory effect was strongly attenuated by Nec-1 treatment. Conclusion Cisplatin activates nuclear factor-κB signaling in HNSCCs to promote TNF-α autocrine and induce RIP1/RIP3/MLKL-dependent necroptosis, thus leading to inhibition of cell proliferation.

Objective To develop plantar force model of patellofemoral pain (PFP), so as to provide theoretical references for the assessment of PFP rehabilitation. Methods The case-control study was conducted, and a total of 126 patients with PFP and 126 healthy controls matched by gender and age were enrolled in the study. The participants were tested for plantar force and pressure during level walking, and twelve plantar regions were divided and recorded. Whether the participants suffered PFP was analyzed as dependent variable, meanwhile the peak force and peak pressure in 12 plantar regions of participants at selected speed during level walking were analyzed as independent variables. Conditional logistic regression (CLR) equations of peak force and peak pressure with PFP were established, respectively. The receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curve of the corresponding equations was derived, and the area under ROC curve was calculated to analyzed the validity of different equations on PFP assessment. Results The CLC equation of peak force in 12 plantar regions of the participants with FFP was constructed, and only peak force of lateral heel was in the equation. The CLC equation of peak pressure in each plantar region included medial heel, midfoot, 1st and 2nd metatarsals. Meanwhile, the area under ROC curve of the pressure equation was larger than that of the force equation. Conclusions Peak force and pressure at different plantar regions can be used to assess PFP during level walking, and peak pressure is more effective for assessment.

Chemical cleaning and disinfection are crucial steps for eliminating infection in root canal treatment. However, irrigant selection or irrigation procedures are far from clear. The vapor lock effect in the apical region has yet to be solved, impeding irrigation efficacy and resulting in residual infections and compromised treatment outcomes.Additionally, ambiguous clinical indications for root canal medication and non-standardized dressing protocols must be clarified.Inappropriate intracanal medication may present side effects and jeopardize the therapeutic outcomes.Indeed, clinicians have been aware of these concerns for years.Based on the current evidence of studies, this article reviews the properties of various irrigants and intracanal medicaments and elucidates their effectiveness and interactions. The evolution of different kinetic irrigation methods, their effects, limitations, the paradigm shift, current indications, and effective operational procedures regarding intracanal medication are also discussed. This expert consensus aims to establish the clinical operation guidelines for root canal irrigation and a position statement on intracanal medication, thus facilitating a better understanding of infection control, standardizing clinical practice, and ultimately improving the success of endodontic therapy.

To compare with the effects of the GM-CSF and IL-2 used as adjuvants in the baculovirus vaccine, we used genetic engineering to construct the recombinant baculovirus rBV-LMI-F and with GM-CSF and IL-2 to immunized chickens. Then, we compared the concentration of the neutralizing antibody and cytokines to determine the immunostimulatory effects of GM-CSF and IL-2. GM-CSF induced higher levels of antibodies and cytokines in chickens at 28 d and 42 d post-vaccination. In conclusion, GM-CSF could elicit higher serum antibody and cytokines responses and improved the effects of Baculovirus vaccine.
