To establish murine graft versus host disease (GVHD) model, in order to evaluate the efficacy of human CD40 Ig fusion protein treatment. To establish murine GVHD model, 2 5?10 7 or 5 0?10 7 /L spleen cells of male C57BL/6 mice were intravenously injected into female BALB/c mice, as receipt, respectively, after sub lethally irradiation by 60 Co source. After the induction of GVHD, human CD40 Ig fusion protein was intravenously injected three times at a dose of 50?g, 150?g and 450?g on day 0, 2 and 4, respectively. The results showed that the typical expressions of GVHD were observed 4 or 5 days after the injection of donor spleen cells, and specific male Y chromosome fragment was amplified by genomic PCR in female BALC/c receipts. The mean survival time (MST) of GVHD induced mice was significantly prolonged by the treatment of human CD40 Ig fusion protein. It is suggested that Murine GVHD model successfully established can be used in evaluating the effects of anti GVHD therapies.

To observe the state of balance between Th1/Th2 in children with asthma by assaying lymphocyte produced cytokines and the expression of CD30 membrane antigen on PBMC. The levels of IFN ?, IL 4 in PBMC and serum total IgE were determined by ELISA, the counting of the CD30 expressing cells was performed by flow cytometry. The results showed: (1)The level of IL 4 was increased significantly in patients with asthma attack compared with normal children ( P

Objective: To investigate the temperature control methods for long-distance transportation of red blood cell suspensions in military affairs or emergence. Methods: We loaded blood transport cars with red blood cell suspensions to full capacity and kept the temperature by combined cooling methods. Results: The temperature in the container was kept between 2-6.2℃ during the 72 h transportation, even when the refrigeration system of the car was out of work. Conclusion: The required temperature for long-distance transportation of red blood cell suspensions could be attained by combined cooling methods in case of insecurity of transportation time and the effect of single cooling method.

OBJECTIVESThe goal of the present study was to describe the changes in activities of daily living (ADL) of community-dwelling Beijing elderly people (n=3,257), observed for 8 years, and to identify the demographic characteristic that predict the functional change.
METHODSTwo sets of interview data (1992 and 2000) were used to evaluate changes among the elderly in reports of limitation in ADL management.
RESULTSThe prevalence of disability increased over 8 years both in IADL and BADL disability. The patterns of ADLs change were bi-directional. A large proportion (74.7%) of the elderly were found to remain active in their functional states, 20.4% of the elderly declined, 3.4% of the elderly remained disabled, and 1.5% showed improvement in functional states. The transition rates from non-disability and disability states to various functional states showed different characteristic, a high disability rate accompanied a high mortality rate. The demographic factors that affected the level of disability among different kinds of population manifested similar trends.
CONCLUSIONAge was the most significant predictor for functional limitations. In addition, demographic variables played an important role in estimating functional outcomes. It is recommended that the demarcation factor for the evaluation of ADLs should be 75 years of age.

ObjectiveTo study the proper position for postoperative patients with retinal detachment by intraocular tamponade when using self-designed pillow. Methods Divided 70 postoperative patients with retinal detachment by intraocular tamponade into the experimental group and the control group randomly. The self-designed pillow was used in the experimental group, the routine nursing measures were used in the control group, and then compared the incidence rate of postoperative complication in the two groups, and evaluated the comfortable condition of the patients in the 2 groups. Results The postoperative condition in the experimental group were all better than those in the control group, P

Objective Irregular antibody screening and identification are very important to reduce hemolytic reaction. The dis-tribution of irregular antibodies of blood group was analyzed in patients, to provide evidence for using Micro column gel test to detect and identify irregular antibodies transfusion safety. Methods Micro column gel anti-globulin technique was used to screen the irregular an-tibodies and cross-matching in 29770 patients. If the serum had irregular antibodies, the spectrum cells were used to identify the specific-ity of irregular antibodies. Results Among 29 770 patients, 120 cases had irregular antibodies of blood group. The positive rate was 0.4%.The irregular antibodies include Rh system(n=67),MNS system (n=7), Lewis system(n=5),cases of Kidd system(n=3) and undefined specified antibodies(n=38).Among the 120 antibody-positive patients, 70 were female patients and 50 were male patients. Further study showed that the pregnancy history was to the main factor causing irregular antibodies in women (46 positive cases among 70 female patients) . Conclusion The study showed that some patients had irregular antibodies of blood group, especially female patients with pregnancy history. These results suggested that irregular antibody screening and cross-matching by micro column gel method in pa-tients before transfusion had great significance for ensuring the blood transfusion safety.

Environmental Health and Preventive Medicine 2002;7(5):199-204
OBJECTIVEThe purpose of this study was to test the hypothesis that ADL disability affects the risk of onset of depressive symptoms and the role of possible confounding variables in this relation.
METHODSThe data was obtained from the Beijing Longitudinal Study of Aging, a community-based cohort study of 3,257 elderly, aged 55 through 99 years, who were assessed four time at an 8-year interval. ADL disability and depressive symptoms were assessed by self-reported measures.
RESULTSCompared with non-disabled persons, the disabled persons were associated with an increased risk of onset depression (RR=7.28 for urban, R=2.22 for non-urban). Although an adjustment for possible confounders reduced the risk for depression association with the disability, the detrimental effect of disability remained significantly present. This excess risk is partly explained by the lower satisfation with economy and poor perceived health status of the disabled elderly.
CONCLUSIONSDisability among elderly may significantly increase the risk for depressive symptoms.

Objective To evaluate the rehabilitation efficacy of music training in pediatric cochlear implants (CIs).Methods The 14 subjects were divided into the training and control groups. The age of the training group was 5 to 8 years old, with an average of 6.12±1.46.The age of the control group was 5 to 7 years old, with the average of 5.86±0.90.The subjects in the training group received speech rehabilitation training together with music training, while those in the control group only received speech rehabilitation training. We performed an analysis to compare the music perception, speech perception, mental state, and the quality of life between the two groups before and after training. Results For training group, the score of social anxiety scale for children(SASC) was 11± 3.27 before training, and 15.71±1.89 after training;the score of note discriminate test was 30.86±13.61 before training, and 42.29± 13.24 after training. For control group, the scores of SASC was 12.71±2.93 before training, and 14.57±3.51 after training;the pre-training score of note discriminate test was 33.14±11.48,and post-training score was 36.57± 10.44.After training, the scores of the two test items in training group were significantly higher than those in control group (P<0.05).Conclusion Not only does music training promote music and speech perception in pediatric CIs,it also has proved to be an effective psychological construct for the hearing-impaired children that helps develop self-confidence and improve social status. Moreover, children's improvement in hearing and emotional well-being helps alleviate the psychological stress and anxiety experienced by the children's parents.
