Objective To study the expression of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 ( ICAM-1 ) and vascular cell adhesion molecule-l(VCAM-L) on human mesangial cells (HMC) after stimulation by endothelin-1 (ET-1). Methods The ex-pression of ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 was detected at mRNA and protein levels by using Northern bolt and cell ELISA respectively. Results There was basic mRNA and protein expression of ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 on HMC in the control groups without ET-1. ET-l(10-7mol)augmented the mRNA expression of ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 with the maximum at 4 -8 hr. Increased protein expression of ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 was followed thereafter in a time-depended manner. Conclusion The upregulated expression of ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 by ET-1 may have an important role in the development of glomerulonephritis.

Objective:To observe the effect of observing good swallowing on the swallowing action of stroke survivors with dysphagia. Methods:Eighteen stroke survivors with dysphagia were randomly divided into a treatment group ( n=9) and a control group ( n=9). In addition to routine swallowing rehabilitation therapy, the treatment group was asked to simulate swallowing after watching a video of normal people′s swallowing action. They did so 5 times a week for 10 minutes, while the control group just watched landscape videos at the same time. The treatment lasted 8 weeks. Before and after the treatment, both groups were assessed using the eating assessment tool (EAT-10), the functional oral intake scale (FOIS) and the penetration and aspiration scale (PAS). Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) was also used to observe their swallowing action. Results:There was no significant difference between the two groups in any of the measurements before the treatment. After the 8 weeks of treatment the average EAT-10, FOIS and PAS scores of the treatment group were all significantly better than before the treatment and better than the control group′s averages at the time. fMRI showed significantly more areas activated in the precuneus, parietal lobe, posterior central gyrus, BA7, BA5, frontal lobe and paracentral lobule in the treatment group compared with before the intervention and also more than in the control group. Conclusions:Observing proper swallowing action can improve dysphagia and activation of the swallowing-related brain areas of stroke survivors.

OBJECTIVE:To provide reference for elucidating the anti-allergic asthma constituents in alkaloids-free part of Ephedrae Herba. METHODS :Ephedrae Herba was extracted with 85% ethanol and n-heptane,and then subjected to solid-phase extraction(filler AC 18)for pretreatment to enrich alkaloids-free part from the extract of Ephedrae Herba. HPLC method was adopted, and alkaloids-free fractions of Ephedrae Herba were performed on Unitary C 18 column and Eclipse XDB-C 18 column. Using high expression G protein coupled-receptor 35(GPR35 receptor)in HT- 29 cell as target ,GPR35 receptor agonist zaprinast (1 μmol/L)as positive control ,DMR response value as the detection index ,the agonistic and desensitizing activity of each fraction(100 μg/mL)on GPR 35 receptor was screened by label-free integrated pharmacological method ,so as to screen active anti-allergic asthma fraction. HPLC-Q-TOF-MS method was used to identify the chemical composition of the selected active fractions. RESULTS :The alkaloids-free part of Ephedrae Herba was divided into two parts ,involving the precipitated part before solid phase extraction and the 95% methanol elution part ;from them ,20 fractions were screened. Among them ,the precipitated fraction F 1.5-F1.10 and 95% methanol eluted fraction F 2.5-F2.10 had a strong agonistic activity on GPR 35 receptor;at the same time,GPR35 receptor agonist zaprinast showed a relatively strong desensitization activity. The signal intensity of DMR induced by F1.5-F1.10 in the precipitated part of HT- 29 cells was even higher than that of reference drug zaprinast. By HPLC-Q-TOF-MS analysis,24 chemical components were identified from active fractions ,involving 14 flavonoids,2 volatile oils ,7 organic carboxylic acids ,1 anthraquinones. CONCLUSIONS :The alkaloid-free part of Ephedrae Herba is mainly flavonoids and has anti-allergic asthma activity.

OBJECTIVE:
To observe the skin surface microcirculation of acupoints of conception vessel, governor vessel and thoroughfare vessel in patients with primary dysmenorrhea using laser speckle contrast imaging (LSCI), and provide acupoint selection basis of acupuncture-moxibustion for primary dysmenorrhea.
METHODS:
Ninety-nine healthy female college students with regular menstrual cycles (normal group) and 94 female college students with primary dysmenorrhea (dysmenorrhea group) were recruited. Before menstrual period, on the first day of menstruation, and on the third day after menstruation, LSCI was used to observe the surface microcirculation at the abdominal acupoints of conception vessel, i. e. Yinjiao (CV 7), Qihai (CV 6), Shimen (CV 5), Guanyuan (CV 4), Zhongji (CV 3) and Qugou (CV 2), acupoints of thoroughfare vessel, i. e. Huangshu (KI 16), Zhongzhu (KI 15), Siman (KI 14), Qixue (KI 13), Dahe (KI 12), Henggu (KI 11) and acupoints of lumbosacral region of governor vessel, i. e. Xuanshu (GV 5), Mingmen (GV 4), Yaoyangguan (GV 3), Yaoshu (GV 2) as well as two non-acupoints.
RESULTS:
Before menstrual period, there was no significant difference in the surface blood perfusion of the acupoints between the dysmenorrhea group and the normal group (P>0.05). On the first day of menstruation, the surface blood perfusion of Xuanshu (GV 5), Mingmen (GV 4), Yaoyangguan (GV 3) and right Huangshu (KI 16) in the dysmenorrhea group was higher than that in the normal group (P<0.05, P<0.01). On the third day after menstruation, the surface blood perfusion of the right Henggu (KI 11) in the dysmenorrhea group was lower than that in the normal group (P<0.05).
CONCLUSION
In patients with primary dysmenorrhea, on the first day of menstruation, the surface blood perfusion of Xuanshu (GV 5), Mingmen (GV 4), Yaoyangguan (GV 3) of governor vessel, and the right Huangshu (KI 16) of thoroughfare vessel is increased, while on the third day after menstruation, the surface blood perfusion of the right Henggu (KI 11) of thoroughfare vessel is decreased. These findings might provide a basis for acupoint selection in the acupuncture-moxibustion treatment of primary dysmenorrhea.
