1.Regulation of saw palmetto extract on immune function in GL261 glioma

Objective:To investigate the effect of saw palmetto extract ( SR ) on GL261 glioma in rats and immune system.Methods:The 40 rats were divided into 4 groups randomly,one was the control group without tumor( the blank group) ( n=10) ,the other 30 rats were given subcutaneous inoculation of tumor cells and then divided into 3 groups:the tumor-bearing group( n=10) ,low dose SR group( n=10) ,and high dose SR group( n=10).After 1 week fed,the rats of SR groups were given the saw palmetto extract,low dose group 50 mg/kg once a day every other day and 300 mg/kg of high dose group every other day.The tumor-bearing groups received the same dose of distilled water.After 4 weeks fed, we measured the tumor weight and the inhibition rate was calculated.The tumor cell apoptosis was detected by TUNEL staining.The activity of splenic macrophages was detected by macrophage phagocytosis of chicken erythrocytes and CD4+lymphocytes by flow cytometry.Results:①The SR groups compared with tumor group, the tumor weight was significantly reduced(F=62.678,P=0.000).The tumor inhibition rate was significantly higher in high dose group.②The apoptosis of tumor cells in tumor-bearing group was significantly less than SR groups and the apoptosis was significantly increased after treatment with SR ,especially in high dose SR group(F=1.287,P=0.000).③Compared with the blank group,the macrophage activity decreased remarkablely.SR enhanced the macrophage activity obviously, positively related to doses of SR ( F=141.205,P=0.000;F=126.903,P=0.000).④In the tumor-bearing group,the CD4+lymphocyte count decreased significantly.After SR treatment,the CD4+lymphocyte increased and were positively related to the dose of SR.Conclusion: Saw palmetto extract can strengthen the immune system.
2.The pilot study of MR T2 mapping in the cartilage evaluation of knee joint

Objective To discuss the value of MR T2 mapping in the research of the biomechanics and function of cartilage of knee joint.Methods Knees of 20 healthy adults before and after jogging and 19 osteoarthritis patients were examined with sagittal 8-echo SE sequence.The T2 value of cartilage was selected and calculated.The T2 values in the superficial and deep cartilage of femoral and tibial joint before and after jogging were compared,so did between the osteoarthritis patients and healthy adults.The source images were sent to the workstation to get T2 mappings.The T2 value of cartilage between before and after jogging was compared with paired-samples t test.The T2 value between superficial and deep cartilage before jogging was compared with independent-samples t test,so did between the osteoarthritis patients and healthy adults.Results The T2 values in the superficial and the deep tibial cartilage were(48.8±6.3)ms,(44.3±5.7)ms before jogging and(43.4±5.0)ms,(40.3±6.1)ms after jogging.The T2 values were significantly different between before and after jogging(t=6.004 and t=5.037,P<0.05).There was a significant difference between superficial and deep tibial cartilage before jogging(t=3.148,P<0.01).The T2 Values in the superficial and deep femoral cartilage were(52.1±5.7)ms,(47.7±5.3)ms before jogging and(47.2±4.5)ms,(43.6±4.1)ms after jogging.The T2 values were significantly different between before and after jogging(t=6.169 and t=5.957,P<0.05).There was a significant difference between superficial and deep femoral cartilage before jogging(t=3.384,P<0.01).The T2 mapping showed those changes.The mean T2 value in the tibial cartilage of osteoarthritis patients was(56.0±9.1)ms and was higher than that of healthy adults.There was a significent difference between osteoarthritis patients and healthy adults(t=-3.446,P<0.01).Conclusion T2 mapping can be used in the research of biomechanics and function of cartilage and has a prelimilary value in the diagnosis of cartilage degeneration.

4.Effect of low-intensity exercise therapy on the hospitalized patients with chronic schizophrenia

Objective To investigate the effects of the low-intensity exercise therapy on physical and mental health in hospitalized patients with chronic schizophrenia .Methods According to the random number table, a total of 90 inpatients with chronic schizophrenia were divided into intervention group (45 cases) and control group(45 cases).Both groups were treated with routine treatment and care , and the intervention group received extra exercise therapy for 3 months.Physiological indexes of blood pressure (both systolic and diastolic blood pressure , SBP and DBP ) , biochemical parameters of blood lipids including total cholesterol ( TC ) , triglyceride( TG) and Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale ( PANSS) scores were compared before and after intervention.Results After 3months′intervention, SBP(121 ±9)mmHg and DBP(82 ±7)mmHg of intervention group were lower than the control group (t =-4.353,-2.648;P<0.01).TC(4.08 ±0.53) mmol/L and TG (0.90 ±0.21)mmol/L of the intervention group were lower than the control group (t=-4.517,-2.734;P<0.05).Total score of PANSS (63.93 ±5.78)points and its 4 sub scales including positive scale (14.65 ± 2.71)points, negative scale (13.44 ±2.40)points, and general psychopathology scale (35.84 ±3.78)points were lower than the control group (t=-10.521,-4.174,-7.256,-8.055;P<0.01).Conclusions Low-intensity exercise therapy could promote the physical and mental health of the hospitalized patients with chronic schizophrenia .
5.Effect of supportive nursing intervention on treatment adherence of schizophrenia patients and caregivers′anxiety

Objective To investigate the effect of supportive nursing intervention on treatment adherence of patients with schizophrenia and caregivers′anxiety.Methods A total of 72 schizophrenia patients and their caregivers were randomly divided into observation group and control group,with 36 patients in each group.Two group both received routine therapy and nursing care,meanwhile the observation group received an extra 3 months supportive nursing intervention.Medication adherence scale was used to evaluate treatment adherence of patients;self-rating anxiety scale (SAS)was used to evaluate mental health of caregivers,and nursing satisfaction scale was used to evaluate the satisfaction of nursing care.Results After 3 months intervention,treatment compliance (12 cases fully compliance, 18 cases partially compliance,6 cases noncompliance)and nursing care compliance (11 cases fully compliance,15 cases partially compliance, 10 cases noncompliance)of the observation group were obviously higher than those of the control group(χ2 =13.461,17.537;P <0.01 ).After intervention,SAS scores of the observed caregivers(37.51 ±5.93)were lower than that before intervention(43.11 ±4.98)and that of the control group(42.08 ±5.64)(t =4.283, 4.040;P <0.01 ).In the observation group,nursing care satisfaction of caregivers was markedly improved, including 29 cases (82.6%)satisfied,with 5 cases(14.2%)somewhat satisfied,1 case(2.9%)unsatisfied;while in the control group,15 cases (41.7%)satisfied,11 cases (30.6%)somewhat satisfied,9 cases (25%) unsatisfied,and the difference was statistically significant(χ2 =13.105,P <0.01).Conclusions Supportive nursing intervention can significantly improve the treatment and nursing adherence of schizophrenia patients, alleviate caregivers′anxiety,and promote their satisfaction of nursing care.
