Sepsis should be defined as life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by a dys-regulated host response to infection. Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) is one of the methods for the clinical treatment of sepsis. For patients undergoing CRRT, rational antimicrobial therapy is very important for the control of patient's infection. However, during CRRT, there is no clear guideline for the dose adjustment of antibiotics. In this paper, we analyzed the effect of CRRT combined with antibiotics on sepsis treatment in China and abroad, and discussed its effect on antibiotic clearance, and provided reference for clinical work.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of epidermal stem cells from human hypertrophic scar (HS-ESCs) on the skin wound healing in nude mice.
METHODS40 mice were randomly divided into two groups as experimental group (n = 20) and control group (n = 20). Wounds, 1 cm in diameters, were made on every mouse back. The wounds were treated with HS-ESCs and erythromycin ointment in experimental group, or only with erythromycin ointment in control group. The wound healing was observed during the following 14 days. The expression of collagen-I, collagen-III, epidermal growth factor (EGF), fibroblast growth factor (FGF2) , transforming growth factor (TGFbeta1, and TGFbeta2) were studied.
RESULTSThe wound healing time in the experimental group was (20.8 +/- 0.84) d, which was (25.6 +/- 0.89) d in the control group. HE staining revealed that the extent of vascularization in the experimental group was 11.60 +/- 0.55, while it was 8.04 +/- 0.33 in the control group. Immunochemistry analysis showed the expression of collagen-I, collagen-III, EGF, FGF2, TGFbeta1, and TGFbeta2 in the experimental group were significantly higher, compared with those in control group (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONHS-ESCs may promote wound healing through enhancement of the vascularization of the wound tissue and the expression of growth factors.

Objective To lay a foundation for the clinical application and tissue engineering research of hypertrophic scar (HS)-derived DMSCs by comparing the biological characteristics of dermis mesenchymal stem cells (DMSCs) from human maturing-phase HS and normal skin. Methods Twenty maturing-phase HS specimens (scar group) and 20 normal skin specimens (control group) were selected to extract and sort DMSCs by two-step enzyme digestion. When cells in both groups were subcultured to 3rd generation, cell morphology and growth curve were observed; expressions of cell surface proteins CD29,CD49 and vimentin were tested by immunocytochemistry; cells with positively expressed surface proteins CD34,CD73,CD90,and CD105 were examined by flow cytometry; expressions of genes Oct4 and Nanog were tested by RT-PCR; cell potential to differentiate into lipoblasts, osteoblasts, and chondroblasts was assayed in inductive medium. Results DMSCs in both groups showed similar shape and growth curve.Cell markers CD29,CD49 and vimentin expressed positively.Of scar and control groups, expressions of CD34,CD73,CD90,and CD105 were (0.60±0.03)% vs (0.61 ±0.02)%,(98.90±0.80)%vs (99.00±0.70)%,(98.30±0.30)%vs (98.20±0.40)%,and (93.10± 0.40) % vs (93.00 ± 0.20) % respectively (P > 0.05) ; expressions of genes Oct4 and Nanog were 0.506±0.024 vs0.512±0.024 and 0.496 ±0.018 vs 0.494 ±0.023 (P>0.05).Both types of DMSCs were able to differentiate in vitro into lipoblasts, osteoblasts, and chondroblasts in invitro conductive medium. Conclusion DMSCs exist in maturing-phase HS and present biomechanical characteristics basically similar with those of normal human skin.

The association of serum uric acid ( SUA ) and urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio ( ACR ) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus was explored. The ACR abnormal rate was higher in hyperuricemia group( P<0.01 ). ACR level was positively correlated with SUA( P<0.01 ). The general linear model showed that SUA was a risk factor in ACR. Patients with hyperuricemia and type 2 diabetes mellitus were apt to have abnormal ACR and develop early renal damage.

Objective To quantify the correlations between Elekta XVI cone beam CT dose and various scanning protocols, providing mathematical models to assess the protocol-dependency of imaging dose during imnage guided radiotherapy. Methods Based on standard protocols and various combinations of kVp and mA on an XVI mounted on an Elekta Versa HD accelerator, the air KERMA was measured at various positions in a standard PTW CTDI body phantom using calibrated PTW 30009 kV chamber and UNIDOS webline electrometer.Weighted CT dose index (CTDIw) was computed thereafter.SigmaPlot 10.0 was used to fit the measurements against mA and/or kVp yielding empirical functions. Results Under standard protocols, the CTDIw of Varian OBI was only 11.23% (chest) and 9.15% (pelvis) of Elekta XVI.Using the default and other 4 investigated kVp values, the central and peripheral KERMA were both proportional to mA,and vet the slope value a varied dramatically from 0.479 to 6.679.Major affecting factors included kVp settings, measurement locations, and dosimetric mnetrics, etc.None linear regressions were used to fit kVp against KERMA at various locations and CTDIw (R2 > 0.997).The differences between all coefficients were statistically significant (P < 0.05).The impact of changing both mA and kVp on the dose to phantom center can be described as mGy =(5.917-0.197 ×kVp+0.002 × kVp2-5.063 × 10-6 × kVp3) × mA.Conclusions Imaging dose of Elekta XVI is strongly dependent on scanning paraneters. The proposed mathematical models can be used as efficient and robust indicators of such dependency.

A total of 127 type 2 diabetic patients were divided into low glycemic index meal replacements (intervention) group and standard food-based diet (reference) group in an experiment for 12 weeks. The results showed that fasting plasma glucose, postprandial 2 h plasma glucose, fasting insulin, and homeostasis model assessment insulin resistance(HOMA-IR) in the intervention group decreased significantly after 12 weeks trial ( P<0.05 or P<0.01 ).However, there were no significant changes in lipid profile and HbA1C in intervention group. In addition, percentage of body fatty, visceral fatty area, and waist-hip ratio also decreased in intervention group( all P<0.01 ).Superoxide dismutase and glutathione levels increased significantly in intervention group by the end of trial (both P<0.01 ),while malondialdehyde was decreased (P<0.01 ).There were no significant changes in the aforementioned indices in the reference group.Weight, body mass index, and waist circumferences were decreased in both groups, but without significant difference between the two groups.

OBJECTIVETo analyze the contents of harmful heavy metals, sulfur and trace elements from Paeoniae Radix Alba before and after sulfur-fumigated process.
METHODSamples were pretreated by wet digestion and then subjected to elements analysis by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES).
RESULTThe contents of Cu and S elements were increased, while the content of Zn element was decreased in Paeoniae Radix Alba after sulfur-fumigated process compared with the samples dried in the sun. Moreover, heavy metallic elements, such as As and Hg, were detected in Paeoniae Radix Alba after sulfur-fumigated process.
CONCLUSIONSulfur fumigated process may cause residual of heavy metals and sulfur which are harmful to human body and change the contents of some trace elements.
