Objective To study the echocardiographic characteristics and its diagnosis value on congenital supravalvular aortic stenosis (SVAS) in children. Methods Thirty-one patients with SVAS diagnosed by multiplane echocardiography were enrolled in the study. Their echocardiographic characteristics were compared with cardiac catheterization, operation, and gene detection results. Echocardiographic changes were mainly observed in aortic valve, supravalve, descending aortic arch, pulmonary artery valve, main pulmonary artery and its branches, and coronary artery. Results Of the 31 patients,26 had hourglass type SVAS,4 hypoplastic type, and 1 membranous type; 2 patients had extremely mild stenosis (defined as a Doppler gradient <25 mm Hg) ,20 mild (25~49 mm Hg) ,5 moderate (50~75 mm Hg) ,and 4 severe C>75 mm Hg) ones. Nineteen patients were diagnosed with Williams syndrome by gene detection. Three patients were associated with aortic valve stenosis including one missed at the initial diagnosis; 10(32.26%) patients with pulmonary stenosis, including pulmonary valve stenosis in 6, left and right pulmonary artery stenosis in 3 ,and branch stenosis in 1:6 patients with coronary stenosis. Conclusions The sternal border and five chamber apical views are the best to detect SVAS. Williams syndrome patients are prone to SVAS.Pulmonary stenosis echocardiography forms a great proportion of the SVAS patients. Routine examination is necessary for coronary stenosis in cases of SVAS.

Objective To observe the expressions of Th1 cytokin [interleukin (IL)-12] and Th2 cytokin (IL-4) in gut of the mouse model of postinfcctious irritable bowel syndrome (PI-IBS). Methods Thirty mice were divided into control group (n=8) and model group (n=22,infected with Trichinella spiralis). The weight of the mouse was measured weekly after infection. Visceral sensitivity of colorectal distention in mouse was accessed by abdominal withdrawal reflex (AWR) at 0 and 8 weeks after infection. All mice were sacrificed at the 8th week, and tissues of jejunum, terminal ileum, proximal colon and distal colon were observed for inflammation with HE staining. The mRNA and protein expressions of IL-12 and IL-4 were examined by RT-PCR and Western blotting, respectively. Results Two weeks after infection, body weight was decreased in model group compared with control group ( -1.08%±1.08 % vs 3.09%±1.85%, P<0.05), but there was no significant difference at the 8th week between two groups (P>0.05). Severe inflammation was observed in the gut of mouse 2 weeks after infection, however it was recovered at the 8th week. The score of AWR was higher in model group at 30,45 and 60 mmHg in comparison with control group (P<0.05), whereas the perceptual threshold was lower in model group than in the control group (P<0.05). In comparison with control group, increased expressions of IL-12 mRNA and protein in ileocecum and proximal colon as well as decreased expressions of IL-4 mRNA and protein in all parts of gut were found in model group (P<0.05). Conclusion Th1/Th2 shift may involve in gut of PI-IBS mouse, which provides a new idea for treatment of PI-IBS.

Chinese Journal of Clinical Oncology 2016;43(15):679-682
Telomeres are protective caps located at the ends of human chromosomes. Telomeres shorten with each successive cell di-vision in normal human cells, whereas they are continuously elongated by human telomerase in over 85%of tumors. This simple and attractive difference steers the development of anticancer drugs targeting telomeres and telomerase. Many promising current telo-mere/telomerase-targeting agents, such as GRN163L and GV1001, showed good therapeutic effect both in preclinical studies and phaseⅠ/Ⅱclinical trials. These agents have even entered phaseⅢclinical trials in patients with various tumors. Most therapeutics are more effective when used in combination with standard chemotherapies. Moreover, pharmacological interference with tumor-cell telomere biology to reduce telomere length and/or telomere stability could enhance the effectiveness and safety of radiotherapy. Therapeutics targeting telomere/telomerase may play a key role in radiotherapy in the era of personalized medicine in the future.
