OBJECTIVEThis study aims to identify the crack tip stress intensity factor of the propagation process, crack propagation path, and the changes in the shape of the crack tip by the finite element method.
METHODSThe finite element model of dentino-enamel junction was established with ANSYS software, and the length of the initial crack in the single edge was set to 0.1 mm. The lower end of the sample was fixed. The tensile load of 1 MPa with frequency of 5 Hz was applied to the upper end. The stress intensity factor, deflection angle, and changes in the shape of the crack tip in the crack propagation were calculated by ANSYS.
RESULTSThe stress intensity factor suddenly and continuously decreased in dentino-enamel junction as the crack extended. A large skewed angle appeared, and the stress on crack tip was reduced.
CONCLUSIONThe dentino-enamel junction on human teeth may resist crack propagation through stress reduction.

Bm04862 is a novel hemocyte-specific gene, which has been identified and cloned through the microarray data in silkworm, Bombyx mori. Initially, we successfully obtained the full-length cDNA sequence of Bm04862 via the rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE). The sequence consists of an open reading frame (ORF) with 819 bp, which could encode 273 amino acid residues. The bioinformatics analysis predicted that Bm04862 was a transmembrane protein. Furthermore, qRT-PCR analysis revealed that the expression of Bm04862 was specifically detected in hemocyte and reached a peak at L4M and PP2 stage. Bm04862 was overexpressed in Sf9 insect cells, and the cellular localization indicated that Bm04862 was specifically located in cytoplasm and nuclei membrane. Interestingly, the expression of Bm04862 increas'd dramatically after challenged with Escherichia coli for 24 hours, which predicted its potential role in the innate immune system. Overall, this study could provide the fundamental knowledge for further research.

Objective To analyze the effects of the mumps virus on testicular function and evaluate the value of blood testosterone in acute orchitis condition and prognosis by observing the testosterone levels of peripheral blood in the mumps orchitis patients. Methods Thirty patients with acute mumps orchitis (mumps orchitis group)and 28 patients with mumps only without any major complications (mumps group)were enrolled in the study. At the same time,we selected 20 healthy males in our hospital as healthy controls. All cases were treated by ribavirin (10mg/kg). The testosterone was tested by chemiluminescence method,in 0,7,14 days respectively. The variance analysis and LSD -t test were used to compare differences of blood testosterone in each group, and Pearson method was used to analyze the correlation of blood testosterone and testicular swelling day times, blood amylase, level of neutrophils,IL -6 and CRP.Results The testosterone of acute orchitis [(1.51 ±0.26)ng/mL]was lower than mumps group and healthy controls. The difference was significant(F =99.36,P <0.01).The level of blood testosterone was significantly increased in the treatment for 14 days (t =13.03,P <0.01),and there was no significant difference compared with healthy controls (t =1.23,P =1.23).Pearson correlation analysis found that blood testosterone levels were negatively correlated with the days of testicular swelling, the levels of IL -6 and CRP(r =0.678,P <0.01 and r =0.528,P =0.000;r =0.442,P =0.000).Conclusion This study showed that MuV infection inhibited testosterone synthesis in Leydig cells. In other words, the level of blood testosterone is related to the severity of the orchitis, which can be widely used in clinical.

Objective To explore the treatment effect and failure patterns associated with different clinical target volume on patients with esophageal carcinoma treated with 5-filed intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), and to determine whether involved field irradiation (IFI) is practicable in these patients. Methods A total of 88 patients with esophageal carcinoma between January 2012 to June 2014 underwent IMRT in our hospital, were divided into IFI group and elective nodal irradiation(ENI) group according to the CTV range for a concurrent control study. Results One-year and two-year survival rate in IFI group and ENI group were 75.0%, 45.5% and 70.5%, 43.2% respectively (P > 0.05). Local failure rate in IFI and ENI groups was 27.3% and 22.7% respectively, distant metastasis failure rates 22.7% and 18.2% respectively and regional failure rate outside the radiation field 11.4% and 4.5%, which showed no statistical difference (P > 0.05). Subgroup analysis indicated failure outside the radiation field tended to increase for primary lesion located in the up thoracic or clinical stageⅠ in IFI group. The volume dose histogram of lung V5, V20, V30 and mean lung dose of ENI group were greater than that of IFI group, while V5 of lung and the mean lung dose had statistical difference. Conclusions The survival rate and local control rate have no significant differencein IFI group and ENI group, so IFI is feasible for some esophageal carcinoma, but it should be cautious to choose IFI for those primary lesion located in the up thoracic or clinical stageⅠ.

Objective To study the relationship between interleukin-6(IL-6) and the newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus with Dampness-Heat Encumbering the Spleen syndrome and the relationship between overweight and IL-6. Methods The plasma levels of IL-6 were detected by radio immunoassay in 40 patients with the newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus (Dampness-Heat Encumbering the Spleen syndrome 10 cases and the deficiency of Qi and Yin syndrome 10 cases)and 10 healthy adults. The changes of body mass index (BMI) and waist-hip ratio (WHR) were observed and analyzed in each group. Results The level of IL-6 in blood plasma of patients with the newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus were obviously higher than that in normal group (P< 0.01); IL-6 level in patients with Dampness-Heat Encumbering the Spleen syndrome and overweight were obviously higher than those with the deficiency of Qi and Yin syndrome (P< 0.01). Conclusion Interaction between the high level of cytokines and (or) overweight may affect the normal immune function, and promote the development of diabetes, especially in patients with Dampness-Heat Encumbering the Spleen syndrome. The high level of IL-6 may indicate the large possibility of future T2DM and can be considered as a new diagnosis of T2DM syndrome differentiation.
