1.Advance in the studies of xenogeneic/ ailogeneic bone materials
International Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2008;31(4):249-253
Xenogeneic/Allogeneic bone materials are among the hot research interests of biological scaffolds. These materials are ideal materials for repairing bone defects because they have the structure and morphology of the natural bones, are able to be degraded and absorbed in the body, and are less immunogenic through appropriato treatment.Through further modification with biological molecules such as growth factors, they could provide a better microenvironment for the bone cells to grow into and fully differentiate. This article summarizes the factors affecting the immunogenicity of xenogeneic/allogeneic bone and the methods of removing immunogenicity.Advances in sintered bone materials, defatted bone materials, deproteinated bone materials, decalcifying bone materials, and composite materials are reviewed in greater details.

Nano-hydroxyapatite biomimetic bone materials have become a hotspot in the field of tissue engineering research due to the similarity of the structure and composition to natural bone. This article describes a variety of preparation of nano-hydroxyapatite and synthesis of nano-hydroxyapatite composite, as well as the properties of nano-hydroxyapatite composite materials. Through surface-modification nanohydroxyapatite composite materials will have a potential application foreground including bone defects repair, drug carrier for cancer treatment. In this paper, research progress of nano-hydroxyapatite biomimetic bone materials in recent years were reviewed.

BACKGROUND: The psychological researches on undergraduates popularly believe that status of mental health of undergraduates can be worried.OBJECTIVE: To investigate the relationship between personality and mental health of undergraduates in Henan province, and analyze the feasible value of developing mental health education effectively.DESIGN: Sampling investigation.SETTING: Department of Health Administration, Henan Medical College for Staff and WorkersPARTICIPANTS: 1 128 students from 3 university and colleges in Henan province, whose majors were agriculture, medical science, sciences, literal arts, arts and physical education, etc., were enrolled randomly in this study between April and June 2001.METHODS: Group test was performed in 1 128 students from higher learning schools of Henan province test with Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ) [including 4 dimensions: Extraversion (E), Neuroticism (N),Psychoticism (P), and Social Desirability (L)] and Symptom Checklist90(SCL-90) (90 items, 9 dimensions).MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: ① Comparison of personality characteristics between undergraduates and national norms. ② Classified comparison of personality characteristics of undergraduates. ③ Relationship between personality characteristics and mental health of undergraduates.RESULTS: Incomplete questionnaires were excluded, and 1 100 qualified questionnaires were collected. ① Comparison of personality between undergraduates and national norms: Scores on N and L of EPQ in male undergraduates were higher significantly than those of the national norms (5.47 ±3.13,4.53 ±3.11 ;4.99 ±2.47,4.50 ±2.59,P < 0.001 ).Scores on N, P and L of EPQ in female undergraduates were all higher remarkably than those of the national norms (2.97±1.71,2.68±1.82;5.68±3.08,4.97±2.96;5.32±2.46,4.74±2.48,P < 0.05-0.001). ②Classified comparison of personality in undergraduates: There were obvious differences on the 4 dimensions of EPQ in students of 6 different specialties (P < 0.05-0.001 ). Scores on P in agricultural students were the highest (3.44±1.97); Scores on E in students of physical education were the highest (8.27±2.45), while scores on N in literate arts students were highest (5.99±3.24). Male students'scores on L were lower markedly than female students'(4.99±2.47,5.32±2.46,P < 0.05).Scores on E in students from cities were lower significantly than those in students from countrysides (7.54±2.73,7.93±2.63,P < 0.05). Between lower grade (freshman year and sophomore year) and higher grade (junior year and senior year), only scores on L in the former were high er significantly than those in the latter (5.42±2.44,5.01±2.48,P < 0.01 ).Moreover, scores on E in student cadres were higher apparently thanthose in non-student cadres (8.42±2.61,7.42±2.68,P < 0.001). ③Relationship of personality and mental health in undergraduates: E and L of personality dimension in undergraduates had obviously negative correlation with every factor of SCL-90 (P < 0.01-0.001 )while N had significant positive correlation with every factor of SCL90 (P < 0.001),and P had significant positive correlation with somatization, hostility, phobic anxiety and paranoid ideation (P < 0.05-0.01 ).CONCLUSION: Personality of undergraduates have extremely close internal correlation with their mental health. Introversion, emotional instability and psychoticism of personality of undergraduates have side effects on their psychological health. There are some differences of personality characteristics in different specialty, sex, grade, native place (city or countryside),cadre or non-cadre students.

BACKGROUND:Regional myocardial diastolic dysfunction has been recognized as a sensitive and characteristic sign of myocardial ischemia and infarction, train rate imaging(SRI)is a novel ultrasonic technique with good spatial and high temporal resolution,nd it can be used to quantitatively analyze regional myocardial function.OBJECTIVE:To investigate the characteristics of the longitudinal diastolic strain rate(SR)in ischemic and infarct myocardium by SRI,n order to explore the clinical value of SRI in evaluating regional left ventricular diastolic dysfunction in patients with coronary artery disease.DESIGN:A case-control study.SETTING:Department of Cardiology.Second Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-Sen University.PARTICIPANTS:All the participants were selected from outpatients and/or inpatients of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University between October 2005 and April 2006.Twenty-one patients with myocardial infarction(MI group)and 11 patients with angina pectoris(AP group)were enrolled in the study.Twenty age-matched healthy subjects served as controls.METHODS:After performing conventional echocardiographic examination, olor tissue Doppler images from apical four-,three- and two-chamber views (posterior septum and lateral wall, nterior septum and posterior wall, nterior and inferior wall)were recorded on magneto-optical disk. Then SR curves were derived from the stored images off-line using QLAB 4.2software.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:Ischemic segments in the AP group, nfarct segments in the MI group and normal segments in the control group were analyzed. The parameters measured included peak early diastolic SR (SRe)and peak late diastolic SR(SRa).RESULTS:Compared with the normal myocardium, oth SRe and SRa decreased significantly in the infarct and ischemic myocardium(all P<0.05).No significant differences were observed with respect to SRe and SRa between the infarct and ischemic myocardium(both P>0.05).CONCLUSION:SRI can be used to quantitatively analyze regional myocardial diastolic dysfunction in patients with coronary artery disease,ut its value is limited in differentiating infarct from ischemic myocardium.

Objective To improve diagnose and therapy of post-traumatic acute renal failure induced by rhabdomyolysis. Methods A total of 20 patients with post-traumatic acute renal failure induced by rhabdomyolysis were analyzed retrospectively in aspects of clinical manifestation, laboratory examination and treatment. Of all, there were 9 patients treated with continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), while the other 11 were set as control, receiving no CRRT. Results After treatment with CRRT, 7 patients obtained clinical curing, with 2 deaths. As for control patients, there were 5 patients with secondary chronic renal insufficiency, 1 with clinical curing and 5 deaths. Conclusions Early diagnosis, CRRT, sufficient hydration, hematedialysis and supportive treatment are key points to improve the cure rate. It is important to apply CRRT for patients with renal inadequacy.
