1.Effects and efficiency of various powers of ultrasonic subgingival work tip on dental root surface A scanning electron microscopic study
Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2009;13(51):10185-10188
BACKGROUND: Excessive residue of dental calculus and dental plaque and scratch of Instruments on dental root surface will cause rough root surface, which will accelerate accumulation of dental calculus and dental plaque. Improved scaling can solve this problem, but the operation of ultrasonic subgingival scaling is not regular by some clinical physicians.OBJECTIVE: To study the effect on the root surfaces and the work efficacy following ultrasonic subgingival scaling with different output power and different parts of work tip.DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: The comparison observational study was performed at the Laboratory of Medical College of Qingdao University from March to May 2009.MATERIALS: Twenty root surfaces from ten teeth extracted for severe periodontal diseases were selected, and the volume of dental calculus was basically equal. Ex vivo teeth were obtained from two male patients aged 40-50 years.METHODS: Twenty root surfaces were randomly divided into group A or group B, the high power was set as "3" gear (group A), and the low power was set as "1" gear (group B), using the side (group A1 and B1) and the top (group A2 and B2) of work tip. The time for scaling was recorded and the surface feature of all the specimens was observed under scanning electron microscope(SEM).MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Changes in root surface structure were observed.RESULTS: The damage of root surfaces in groups A1 and B1 was less severe, while more in groups A2 and B2. There were less calculus and plaque residual on root surfaces in group A than in group B. Cementum exfoliation was observed in group A but not in group B. The operating time of group A was significantly shorter than that of group B (P < 0.01). However, there was no significant difference between groups A1 and A2 or groups B1 and B2 (P > 0.05).CONCLUSION: Calculus and plaque can be cleaned more effectively and the damage is less severe by using the side of work tip. Although the calculus can be cleaned more rapidly by using higher power set, the damage is more severe.

To investigate the influence of the difference enhancers on the transport mechanism of chlorogenic acid (CGA) across Caco-2 cells model, a RP-HPLC method was adopted to detect the concentrations of CGA. At the concentrations of 20 to 80 microg x mL(-1), the difference of absorption rate constants (K(a)) was not statistically significant. At the concentrations of 40 and 20 microg x mL(-1), the ratios of apparent permeability coefficients (P(app)) of the apical to basolateral and the basolateral to apical were 1.14 and 1.18, respectively. With the effect of enhancers K(a) and P(app) increased, the absorption half-life (T1/2) decreased. CGA passed through the Caco-2 cell membrane mainly by passive transport. It showed that monocarboxylic acid transporter (MCT) could be involved in the across membrane transport process of CGA. Borneol had no effect on the cell membrane transport processes. The order of increasing absorption of CGA caused by the enhancers was sodium lauryl sulphate > sodium taurocholate > carbomer.

Objective:The purpose of our study was to assess the clinical value of ultrasound in the diagnosis of retroaortic left renal vein (RLRV) behind abdominal aorta. Methods:The ultrasound images of patients with RLRV diagnosed by ultrasound in Union Hospital Affiliated to Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology from 2013 to 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. The general information, clinical symptoms, ultrasound images and other clinical data of the patients were collected and analyzed. Results:RLRV was detected in 16(0.46%) cases of the 3 519 patients from 2013 to 2018 using ultrasonography, and the male to female ratio was 11 to 5. All patients presented with hematuria, including 7 patients with other symptoms, such as left flank pain. Ultrasound were firstly performed in all patients. Of the 16 patients, 15(93.75%) cases were of complete retroaortic type Ⅰ, including 13(81.25%) cases with left renal vein compression and 2(12.5%) cases with complete retroaortic type without left renal vein compression. In 16 cases, 1 case (6.25%) was type Ⅲ, with compression of both branches. Conclusions:Ultrasound may be the preferred method for the left renal vein examination when a clinical suspicion of Nutcracker syndrome is required. Ultrasound can clearly show the left renal vein in most patients, to determine whether the left renal vein is mutated or compressed. Ultrasound has the highest sensitivity for detecting the type Ⅰ, which is not easy to misdiagnose. However, type Ⅲ is easy to misdiagnosis. Whereas the type Ⅱ and type Ⅳ is difficult to detect using ultrasound, which may be related to the limitations of ultrasound imaging.
