International Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine 2016;38(7):577-581
Objective To summarize the media image of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) by analyzing the TCM-related reports onNew York Times. Methods A total of 113 pieces of TCM-related reports onNew York Times during the 1980-2015 period collected and analyzed from the aspects of the amount, genres, coverage resources, reporting attitudes and main issues under the framework of content analysis.Results①The amount of TCM-related reports has been on the rise since 1980s. There was a wide variety in the genres of the reports and the American local resources account for a large proportion.②The reporting attitude in general tended to be relatively positive, though a major difference can be found in the attitude toward acupuncture and herbs.③ Eleven main issues can be categorized in the reports. Conclusion Changes could be seen in the TCM-related reports over time. Despite the fact that the media image of TCM tends to be relatively positive, the negative attitude toward herbs may hamper their development in the US. External communication of TCM is to be strengthened so as to promote the media image of TCM.

Objective To investigate the expression of angiotensinⅡ (Ang Ⅱ ) and its type 1 receptor (AT1) in circulation, placenta and kidney of the rots preeclampsia. Methods Preedampsia rat model was developed by inhibitor of nitric oxide synthase (L-NAME). The systolic blood pressure (SBP), 24 h urine protein, hepatic and renal function were compared among the precelampsia group, the normal pregnant group and nonpregnant control group. The kidney tissue was observed by light microscopy. ELISA and radioimmunoassay were used to detect Ang Ⅱ in rat plasma and kidney homogenate respectively. Placental AT1 was measured by Westem blot. The level of kidney AT1 was evaluated by immunohistochemistry and Western blot. Results In preeclampsia rats, SBP and 24 h urine protein were significantly higher compared with control groups. Compared to normal pregnant group, plasma Ang Ⅱ of preeclampsia rats was much higher [(0.706±0.086) ng/L vs (0.540±0.085) ng/L, P<0.05]; placental AT1 was increased by 46%(P< 0.05); kidney Ang Ⅱ was decreased signigicantly [(65.543±40.634) ng/g vs (165.543±33.078) ng/g, P<0.05]. The expression of ATI in kidney of preeclampsia rats was reduced evidently, which was only 33% of normal pregnancy group and 59% of nonpregnant control greup, respeetively (P<0.05). Conclusions In preeclampsia rat model, the circulating Ang Ⅱ is increased, the placental RAS isactivated, while the kidney BAS is suppressed. The underlying mechanism of proteinuria and kidney damage associated with this phenomenon in preeclampsia needs further research.

Objective To detect the levels of IL-9,IL-17,and IFN-γ in CD4+T cells from patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).Methods The peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from patients with RA and healthy controls were obtained, then the CD4+ T lymphocytes were tested by immunomagnetic beads. The protein levels of IL-9,IFN-γ and IL-17 were measured by flow cytometry (FCM).The mRNA levels of IL-9,IL-17,RORγt and IFN-γwere also detected by qRT-PCR.Data were analyzed by comparison between groups using variance analysis, and Pearson's correlation analysis was used for linear correlation analysis. Results The isolation of untouched human CD4+ T cells from PBMC was effective and its purity was over 90%.The protein levels of IL-9,IL-17,IFN-γwere higher in patients with active RA as compared with patients with inactive RA (P<0.01) which were (1.62±0.23)% vs (1.15±0.24)%(P<0.01),(1.47±0.20)% vs (1.04±0.26)%(P<0.01) and (8.1±0.6)% vs (6.9±1.0)%(P<0.01) respectively,so did the patients with RA when compared with healthy controls (P<0.01).The mRNA levels of IL-9,IL-17,RORγt and IFN-γ were higher in patients with active RA as compared with inactive RA patients (P<0.01),which were (3.0±0.6) vs (1.8±0.4) (p<0.01) (4.2±0.9)vs (2.3±0.7) (P<0.01),(4.1±0.7)vs (2.9±0.3) (P<0.01)and (4.0±0.8)vs (2.3±0.6) (P<0.01) respectively,so did the patients with RA when compared with healthy controls (P<0.01).Intracelluar IL-9 levels were positively correlated with IL-17 (r=0.632,P=0.001),IFN-γ (r=0.515,P=0.008),DAS28 (r=0.519,P=0.009) and ESR (r=0.857,P=0.038) but had no correlation with CRP (r=0.38,P=0.61).Conclusion The levels of IL-17,IL-9,IFN-γare higher in the PBMCs of RA patients, and these cytokines may participate in the pathogenesis of RA.
