Virologica Sinica 2007;22(6):443-450
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is the infectious agent causing acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), a deadliest scourge of human society. Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a major causative agent of chronic liver disease and infects an estimated 170 million people worldwide, resulting in a serious public health burden. Due to shared routes of transmission, co-infection with HIV and HCV has become common among individuals who had high risks of blood exposures. Among hemophiliacs the co-infection rate accounts for 85%; while among injection drug users (IDU) the rate can be as high as 90%. HIV can accelerate the progression of HCV-related liver disease, particularly when immunodeficiency has developed. Although the effect of HCV on HIV infection is controversial, most studies showed an increase in mortality due to liver disease. HCV may act as a direct cofactor to fasten the progression of AIDS and decrease the tolerance of highly active antiretroviral therapy(HARRT). Conversely, HAART-related hepatotoxicity may enhance the progression of liver fibrosis.Due to above complications, co-infection with HCV and HIV-1 has imposed a critical challenge in the management of these patients. In this review, we focus on the epidemiology and transmission of HIV and HCV, the impact of the two viruses on each other, and their treatment.

Chinese Journal of Hospital Administration 2012;28(4):241-245
Objective To accurately understand multi-spot medical practice in China and evaluate its effect. Methods Operation data of 2008 and 2009 were gathered from all medical institutions in Kunming to analyze the effect of the practice trial using the fixed effect model. Results Under control of such factors as the scale and type of the hospitals, clinic visits of the second certified hospital benefited by the practice increased by 14%than before, whereas the medical revenue of the institution increased by 29%.The effect proves more significant in terms of total clinic visits and medical revenues at level-1 and level-2 medical institutions. Conclusion Multi-spot medical practice in Kunming proves successful as it increased medical service supply and medical revenue, especially for level-1 and level-2 medical institutions. This effect possibly results from releasing high-level physicians down to lower-level institutions, helping these institutions to attract patients.

Objective:To investigate the specific interference of OX40 gene expression induced by RNAi technique in 293T cell lines transfected with rat OX40 gene.Methods:293T cells were transfected with recombined plasmid pEGFP-N1-GFP/OX40,and the positive cell clones were selected by fluorescence protein observation and RT-PCR.One specific dicer siRNA targeted to OX40 mRNA was designed and synthesized, which shared no homology with exons of known human gene.Quantitative real-time PCR was performed to measure the inhibitory rate of target gene expression by comparing OX40 mRNA concentrations before and after siRNA transfection.Results:10 nmol/L siRNA-OX40 elicited the highest level of gene silence in 293T cells which was transfected with siRNA after 48 h (68.3?8.7)%);The time of maximal inhibitory effect was at 48-72 h [(61.7?8.4)%,(39.6?5.6)%].Conclusion:The exogenous OX40 expression can be significantly inhibited by treatment with specific siRNA in a dose and time -dependent manner in 293T cells, which may provide a useful profile for further investigation of inhibition of OX40 protein, and a promising control approach for preventing immune reaction.
