Objective To investigate the expression of MnSOD and E-cadhefin in nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC) tissue and its relationship with clinicopathological features and prognosis. Methods The expression of MnSOD and E-cadherin were detected by immunohistochemistry method in 60 NPC patients. Results Of the whole group, lymph node positive group and lymph node negative group, the strong positive rate of MnSOD protein was 47% (28/60) ,49% (25/51 patients) and 33% (3/9) (x2 =0.76,P =0.382), respectively. The corresponding strong positive rate of E-cadherin protein was 47% (28/60) ,43% (22/51) and 78% (7/9) (x2 =3.69,P =0.047) ,respectively. The expression of MnSOD increased with T stage and N stage. The higher expression of MnSOD was significantly associated with the larger size of metastatic lymph node(r =0.46 ,P =0.002) ,more radioresistance and poorer prognosis, but not with the region of lymph node metastasis(r =0.223,P = 0.116).The lower expression of E-cadherin was closely relevant with higher N stage and the smaller region of lymph node metastasis(r =-0.33,P = 0.020),but not with T stage, lymph node size or radiosensitivity(r =-2.19,P=0.093;r=-0.07,P=0.623;r=-0.18,P=0.170).Multi variate analysis showed that MnSOD and E-canherin were independent prognostic factors (x2= 4.45,P = 0.035;x2 =5.12,P=0.024). Conclusions High expression of MnSOD may stimulate tumor growth and reduce radiosensitivity.High expression of E-cadherin may inhibit lymphatic metastasis, while has no rela tionship with tumor growth and invasion.MnSOD and E-cadherin could affect the prognosis of NPC patients.

Objective To investigate the relationship between trace elements and rachitis in children. Methods Three hundred and twelve patients with rachitis and 297 healthy children were selected for this study.Blood zinc(Zn),iron(Fe),plasma copper(Cu),calcium(Ca),magnesium(Mg),lead(Pb) and cadmium(Cd) were assayed by atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Results The levels of Zn,Fe,Cu of rachitis in blood were significantly lower than those of healthy children, while the levels of Mg,Pb were higher. There were significant differences between 2 groups(P

Objective To investigate the effect of physical training on plasma N-terminal pro-brain natri- uretic peptide(NT-proBNP)levels in patients with chronic heart failure(CHF).Methods Eighty NYHAⅡ-ⅢCHF patients were randomly divided into a training group(n=42)and a control group(n=38).A 6-minute walk- ing test was performed within 24 hours after the patients were admitted. The 6-minute walking distance and plasma NT-proBNP levels were determined before and after 8 weeks of programmed physical training. The patients of both groups were treated with routine drugs for heart failure.6-minute walk training was only performed in the training group twice a day for 8 weeks. Results Physical training could significantly reduce plasma NT-proBNP levels and improve performance on the 6-minute walking test. Conclusions Physical training could significantly reduce plas- ma NT-proBNP levels and improve the motor function of patients with CHF,and could be helpful in delaying the de- velopment of CHF.

Objective To explore the effect of levels and ratios of matrix nephritis metalloproteinase-2(MMP-2), -9 and inhibitor of metalloproeinase-1(TIMP-1) in the pathogenesis of children with Henoch-Schonlein purpura nephritis(HSPN),and the correlation between them and urinary micro albumin(MA).Methods Serum levels of MMP-2, -9 and TIMP-1 were determined by double antibody enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA),and urine MA was determined by immune rate nephelometry in 36 children with HSPN,16 children with simple purpura and 30 healthy controls. Results Levels of MMP-2, -9,TIMP-1 and ratios of MMP-2/ TIMP-1,MMP-9/TIMP-1 rose in acute phase of HSPN. The levels and ratios in HSPN group were higher than those in simple purpura group, and those in simple purpura group higher than those in controls (P

Objective To investigate whether mesenchymal stem cells can promote the recovery of acute renal tubular damage induced by mercuric chloride and to explore its possible mechanism. Methods Acute renal failure rat model was established by intraperitoneal injection of mercuric chloride.SD rats were randomly divided into three groups which were MSCs injection group, saline infusion group and normal control group.Seven days later, the changes of rat weight, survival, renal function and pathology were observed;PCNA,ED-1 and GFP were detected by immunohistochemistry; The expression of cytokines in kidney and the distribution of GFP plasmid-transfected MSCs in kidney were examined by RT-PCR.Results MSCs infusion ameliorated the decline of rat weight, survival, renal function, and pathological changes.PCNA and ED-1 positive cells in MSCs group were fewer than those in saline group.Expression of growth factors EGF,PDGF,HGF were obviously up- regulated and pre-inflammatory cytokines TNF-?was significantly reduced in MSCs-treated kidneys. GFP-labelled MSCs occurred occasionally in renal interstitium of MSCs-treated rats, but not in renal tubules. Conclusions Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells can promote the recovery of acute renal tubular epithelial cells damage caused by mercuric chloride. The mechanism may partly depend on regulating the excretion of cytokines in renal microenvironment rather than completely depend on their differentiation to tubular cells.
