Objective:To explore the value of preoperative neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR),preoperative platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR),changes between pre and postoperative neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio(postoperative NLR/preoperative NLR) and changes between pre and postoperative platelet-lymphocyte ratio(postoperative PLR/preoperative PLR) in predicting the occurrence of anastomotic leakage after surgery in patients of rectal cancer. Methods: 187 rectal cancer patients in the Gastrointestinal Surgery Department in the First Affiliated Hospital of Southwestern Medical University during March,2015-March,2016 were included in our study.Preoperative NLR,preoperative PLR,changes between pre and postoperative NLR and changes between pre and postoperative PLR were observed. At the same time we included age, gender, pathological staging, stage of lymph node metastasis, tumor differentiation, distance between tumor and anus in our study.χ2 test or Fisher′s exact value was used in the univariate analysis, while Logistic Regression Analysis was used in the multivariate analysis. Results: The univariate analysis showed that preoperative NLR (Fisher′s exact value=7.242),preoperative PLR (χ2=6.787),changes between pre and postoperative NLR (χ2=15.656),PLR (χ2=9.298),age (χ2=4.813) and distance between tumor and anus(χ2=5.951) were related to anastomotic leakage(P<0.05).Other risk factors such as,gender(χ2=0.001),pathological staging (Fisher′s exact value =2.107),stage of lymph node metastasis(Fisher′s exact value =1.298),tumor differentiation (Fisher′s exact value =2.206),and were not associated with anastomotic leakage (P>0.05).Multivariate analysis showed that the preoperative NLR(OR=1.647,P=0.000),change between pre and postoperative NLR (OR=1.880,P=0.000)and distance between tumor and anus(OR=4.364,P=0.048) were associated with anastomotic leakage. Conclusion: preoperative NLR,change between pre and postoperative NLR and distance between tumor and anus are independent risk factors for anastomotic leakage after rectal anterior resection.

In order to study mechanical stress on root from orthodontic tooth movement by sliding mechanics, a 3-dimensional finite element model incorporating all layers of a human mandibular dental arch with orthodontic appliance has been developed to simulate mechanical stress on root from the orthodontic tooth movement. Simulated orthodontic force of 2 N at 0, 30 and 45 degree from the horizontal axis was applied to the crown of the teeth. The finite element analysis showed when orthodontic forces were applied to the tooth, the stress was mainly concentrated at the neck of the tooth decreasing uniformly to the apex and crown. The highest stress on the root was 0.621 N/mm(2) for cervical margin of the canine, and 0.114 N/mm(2) for apical region of the canine. The top of canine crown showed the largest amount of displacement (2.417 microm), while the lowest amount of displacement was located at the apical region of canine (0.043 microm). In conclusion, this model might enable one to simulate orthodontic tooth movements clinically. Sliding force at 2 N is ideal to ensure the bodily orthodontic tooth movement. The highest stress concentration in the roots was always localized at the cervical margin when orthodontic force of 2 N at 0, 30 and 45 degree from the horizontal axis, so there may be the same risk of root resorption when orthodontic force of 2 N at 0, 30 and 45 degree was used in clinic cases.

Journal of International Oncology 2016;43(8):619-621
Breast cancer metastasis suppressor gene 1 (BRMS1) significantly reduces the invasion and metastasis of cancer cells.BRMS1 gene expression is decreased or deleted in the cells of various malignant tumors.BRMS1 gene can inhibit tumor cells invasion and metastasis by means of regulating gene transcription and protein translation by phosphoinositide signaling and nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) signaling pathways, repairing intercellular communication and interacting with the mSin3-histone deacetylase (HDAC) complex, estrogen receptor and other proteins.BRMS1 gene may be a new target for the gene treatment of tumor metastasis.

Intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR) is one of the most commonly encountered developmental toxicity, which could lead to perinatal morbidity and mortality, be also extended from the fetus to adulthood, and seriously affect the quality of the population. Caffeine widely exists in a variety of daily beverages and some drugs. Its consumption is increasing year by year. Caffeine intake during pregnancy is one of the risk factors for IUGR. However, its mechanism of adverse outcome based on embryonic research is still unclear. In this paper, the possible mechanisms of caffeine-induced IUGR focusing on 3 important factors-the mother, placenta and fetus were explored. Caffeine's impact on the mother is the chronic activation of renin-angiotensin system; on the placenta, caffeine induces cell damage or the failure of the cell proliferation/apoptosis balance, leading to blockage of blood supply to the placenta; caffeine is also capable of directly affecting fetal development through interfering its neuroendocrine.

Objective Using recombinant TrxTSHRc protein which contains TSBAb antigen epitope as antigen, an enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was established. The cut-off of positive values of TSH receptor antibody (TRAb) was established. Methods Using recombinant TrxTSHRc protein as antigen, the optimum condition was determined, and the indirect ELISA for detecting TRAb (TRAb-C) in the serum of normal control subjects and thyroid disease patients was established. A total of 1 085 patients and healthy controls were tested for this antibody. Results TRAb-C ELISA mainly detected TSBAb. The A405((-x)±s) value in healthy group was 0. 319±0. 107 with a cut-off value ((-x)±2 s)of 0. 533. The positive rate in thyroid disease patients showed significant deviation, with 66. 01 % in patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis, 41.68% in newly-diagnosed Graves'disease, 6.98% in simple goiter, 11.1% in subacute thyroiditis, 8.7% in nontoxic thyroid nodular goiter, and 3.2% in thyroid adenoma. Conclusion The TRAb-C ELISA mainly detects TSBAb, which is very valuable for autoimmune thyroid disease, especially for the diagnosis, prognosis and therapy evaluation in Hashimoto' s thyroiditis.

Objective To analyze the histopathology of patients with atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASCUS),and provide evidence for further classification and clinical treatment of ASCUS.Methods The histopathology of cervical biopsy specimens from 249 patients with ASCUS diagnosed by liquid-based cervical cytology examination was analyzed retrospectively. Results Among the 249 ASCUS patients, the proportion of patients with inflammation was 34.14% (85/249), morphological change by human papillomaviral infection was 19.28%(48/249), CIN I was 32.53%(81/249),CIN II was 8.84%(22/249),CIN III was 3.21%(8/249), infiltrating squamous cell carcinoma was 1.20%(3/249),and endometrioid adenocarcinoma was 0.80%(2/249) . Conclusion It is very important to to further definitude the diagnosis of ASCUS, because a certain proportion of cervical cancer and precancerous leisions woud be confirmed.
