BACKGROUND: Composite resin functions as a practical resin restoration material with beautiful outlook, modifying its mechanical properties has become a hot spot in research.OBJECTIVE: To prepare resin specimens with two kinds of inlay curing machines: CERAMAGE and TESCERA, and to compare the mechanical properties of these specimens.METHODS: The resin specimens supporting two machines were cross-matched with these machines and then divided into four groups: Group A was Tescrea resin prepared with TESCERA machine; group B was Tescrea resin prepared with CERAMAGE machine; group C was Ceramage resin prepared with CERAMAGE machine; group D was Ceramage resin prepared with TESCERA machine. The standard specimens were determined for compressive strength, hardness and flexural strength.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The compressive strength and hardness in group A were higher than those in other three groups, and group B exhibited higher compressive strength and hardness than groups C and D (P < 0.05). The flexural strength in groups C and D was higher than that in groups A and B (P < 0.05), there was no significant difference between groups C and D, neither betweens group A and B. The experimental findings indicate that TESCERA inlay machine and Tescera resin achieve the optimal mechanical properties.

OBJECTIVETo observe the curative effect of Qianjin Kouchuang Jiawei Granule (QKJG) on recurrent oral ulceration [yin deficiency fire excess type (YDFET)].
METHODSTotally 120 patients who suffered from recurrent oral ulceration (YDFET) were randomly assigned to two groups, the experiment group and the control group, 60 in each group. Patients in the experiment group took QKJG, 20 g each time, twice per day, while those in the control group took Kouyanqing Granule (KG) , 20 g each time, twice per day. Fourteen days consisted of one therapeutic course, two for all. Scores for patients' symptoms and signs (ulcer area, exudation, hyperaemia, edema, the number of ulceration, burning sensation, and pain degrees) were assessed before treatment, at day 3 and 7 after treatment. Short-term efficacy was assessed by visual analogue scale (VAS). The total paralysis time and the total number of ulceration at month 12 after treatment were taken as judgment for long-term efficacy. Results Compared with before treatment in the same group, symptoms and signs were obviously improved at day 3 and 7 after treatment in the two groups (P < 0.05). Compared with the control group at day 3 after treatment, the improvement of edema, exudation, pain degree, and burning sensation was more obvious in the experiment group (P < 0.05, P < 0.01). The improvement of edema, pain degree, and burning sensation at day 7 after treatment was more obvious in the experiment group than in the control group (P < 0.05). As for short-term efficacy, the total effective rate was 86.67% (52/60 cases) in the experiment group and 83.33% (50/60 cases) in the control group, with no statistical difference between the two groups (P > 0.05). As for long-term efficacy, the total effective rate was 90.00% (54/60 cases) in the experiment group, significantly higher than that of the control group with statistical difference [81.67% (49/60 cases), P < 0.05]. At month 12 after treatment, the total number of ulceration was reduced and the paralysis time of ulcer attack prolonged in the experiment group, with statistical difference when compared with the control group (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONQKJG showed better long-term efficacy than that of KG in treating recurrent oral ulceration (YDFET).

Objective To investigate and analyze the behavior and therapeutic status of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients. Methods Out patients diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in our hospital from May to August 2007 were enrolled. The data including sex, age of onset, site of first hospitalization and medication status were collected and analyzed. Results In this 181 RA patients, the mean age of onset was (53±11) year-old, mean history duration was (10±8) years, the ratio of male to female was 1:4.2. The orthopedics department was the most common site of first hospital visit (32.0%, 58/181) and rheumatology department was the most common site to clarify the diagnosis (62.4% ,113/181). The diagnosis delay caused by patients themselves was (5.9±17.2) months and the delay caused by doctors was (9.0±22.0) months. More than half of the patients were not treated appropriately before they came to our hospital. Methotrexate was the most commonly used DMARDs (67.3%), followed by leflunomide (46.4%), sulfasalazine (37.5%) and hydroxyehloroquine (19.6%). Conclusion In this cohort, the proportion of patients who come to rheumatology department immediately after disease onset is low. There is delay between symptoms and final diagnosis. More than half of the patients are not treated appropriately.

Journal of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (Medical Sciences) 2008;28(5):596-8
The accommodative function before and after laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) was observed, and the effect of LASIk on accommodation was investigated. In a prospective clinical trial, 48 myopic patients (96 eyes) subject to bilateral LASIK in Refractive Surgery Center, Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (China) from March 2006 to June 2006 were selected and studied. Refractions, accommodative range, amplitude of accommodative response and high frequency component (HFC) of accommodative microfluctuations were measured with NEDIK-730A before and one week and 30 days after operation. Dominant and non-dominant eyes were determined by hole-in-card method. It was found that all of the operative eyes showed an uncorrected visual acuity of 0.8 or better one week postoperatively, and 1.0 or better 30 days postoperatively. Compared with those preoperatively, accommodative range and HFC had no significant difference at first week and 30th day after operation in both dominant eyes and non-dominant eyes (P>0.05), but there was a significant difference in the amplitude of accommodative response/accommodative stimulus ratio (A/S) after operation (P<0.01), and no significant difference was found in accommodation between one week and 30 days postoperation. No ocular dominance's change was noted. There was no significant difference in accommodative function between dominant eyes and non-dominant eyes. It was suggested that LASIK produced no significant effect on accommodation.
