Objective To evaluate and analyze the effects between with modified Forsus appliance and activator in the treatment of class Ⅱ madibular retrusion. Methods 70 children with class Ⅱ malocclusion and mandibular retrusion were selected and divided into two groups:35 patients treated with this modified Forsus appliance (group A) and other 35 treated with activator (group B).Cephalometric radiographs were taken and analyzed at the pre-treatment time (T0) and the post-treatment time (T1) with the Pancherz analysis. Results The course of treatment was obviously different:the course of group A was (21.4±2.0) months, and group B was (27.3±2.5) months; the treatment course of group A was shorter than that of group B.After treatment, profiles of the two groups were obviously improved. The trends were similar in overjet and the molar relationship,SNB and ANB,with significant differences. But there was no significant difference between the results of the two groups. The change of occlusal plane was notably in group B.Conclusions Both the modified Forsus appliance and activator appliance combined with straight wire appliance can effectively stimulate the mandibular growth, balance the jaw relationship, and correct the class Ⅱ mandibular retrusion. But the modified Forsus appliance can effectively treat the class Ⅱ patients with the shorter course. And the same time,it can take effect continually without depending on the coordination of the patients.

Objective To evaluate the clinical outcome associated with the core decompression in combination with the nano-hydroxyapatite/collagen composite rod combined with decalcified bone matrix in a consecutive series of patients with osteonecrosis of femoral head, especially the prevention of collapse of femoral head and its predisposing factors. Methods From August,2012 to May,2013,46 pationts (50 hips) who had undergone core decompression in combination with nano-hydroxyapatite/collagen composite rod insertion in corporated with decalcified bone matrix in our hospital were involved in this study.Postoperative care consisted of prophylactic intravenous antibiotic and anticoagulation therapy.Patients were instructed to be non-weight-bearing for 3 weeks,to partial weight-bear for the next 3 weeks, and to weight bear as tolerated thereafter. All patients were evaluated both clinically and radiographically. The primary clinical outcome of this study was functional improvement assessed with the Harris hip score.Serial radiograms of the pelvis were taken at 1,3,6,12 months post-operatively to analyze the process of osteonecrosis. Results All patients followed up for 12 months,no one suffer complications. The mean Harris score pre-operation was 65.6 ± 10.6,post-operation score was 87.5 ± 15.3,with a mean improvement of 21.8 ± 13.2 (P < 0.05).According to Harris hip score system, excellent for 30 hips, good for 14 hips, fair for 2 hip and poor for 4 hips.Refer to the Kaplan-Meier survivorship curve, the success rate at 12 months post-operatively was 92%.Radiological changes coincided with clinical changes. Conclusion Core decompressionin combination with nano-hydroxyapatite/ collagen composite rod insertion in corporated with decalcified bone matrix provided a minimally invasive surgical treatment option to treat early stage osteonecrotic hips(stage Ⅰ and Ⅱ) and to prevent femoral heads from collapsing, with clinical outcomes and success rates priorto other commonly used surgical procedures.

Objective To document the MRI features of renal angiomyolipoma (RAML) containing minimal fat and to explore whether the MR features vary depending on the tumor size. Methods The MR findings of 15 cases of pathologically-proved RAML containing minimal fat were reviewed retrospectively from January 2008 to March 2010. All patients underwent MR in a 1.5 T or 3.0 T scanners. The MR features of the lesions were analyzed, with emphasis on the signal intensity and homogeneity on T2WI, in regards to pseudocapsule, lipid component, hemorrhage, cystic degeneration or necrosis, blood vessels, interface with renal parenchyma and enhancement pattern. All lesions were categorized into 2 groups; those with diameter >4 cm and those with diameter ≤4 cm. The difference of imaging characteristics between these two groups was analyzed using Fisher exact test. Results All 15 lesions demonstrated hypointensity on T2WI compared to the renal parenchyma. Homogeneous signal intensity on T2WI was seen in 6 lesions (6/15); peritumoral pseudocapsule in 3 lesions (3/15); cystic degeneration or necrosis, hemorrhage in 5 lesions (5/15); flow void of blood vessels in 2 lesions (2/15); lipid component in 4 lesions (4/15); angular interface with renal parenchyma in 10 lesions (10/15); homogeneous enhancement in 8 lesions (8/15). Fifteen lesions were divided into two groups; 9 categorized into group 1 (the maximum diameter ≤ 4 cm) and 6 into group 2 ( the maximum diameter > 4 cm). Cystic degeneration or necrosis was seen in 0 of 9 in group one and 5 of 6 in group two respectively, hemorrhage(0 of 9 and 5 of 6 respectively) and pseudocapsule(0 of 9 and 3 of 6 respectively. The difference between these findings in the two groups demonstrated statistical significance (P < 0. 05). Conclusion The MR features of RAML containing miminal fat were hypointensity on T2 WI,angular interface with renal parenchyma and homogeneous contrast enhancement, however, these findings can vary depending on the tumor size.

Objective To evaluate the brain invasion in gliomas by diffusion tensor tractography(DTT).Methods Diffusion tensor imaging was preoperatively performed in 35 patients who histologically confirmed gliomas.13 of the 35 tumors were low-grade gliomas and 22 were high-grade gliomas. Then the spatial relationship between the lesions and white matter fiber tracts around tumor was analyzed. displacement, continuity and injured conditions of white matter fiber were observed. Results White matter fiber tract in all lesions could be observed clearly. Three patterns of white matter fibers involvement were identified:displaced, infiltrated and destructed. White matter fiber tracts around low-grade gliomas were primarily displaced ,but were mainly infiltrated and destructed around high-grade gliomas. Conclusion DTT was useful for showing white matter fiber tracts, observing the shape changes stereographically, and evaluating the relationship with gliomas in vivo.
