To standardize the harvest ways of Dendrobium officinale and improve the quality and yield of D. officinale, a field experiment was carried out to study the effect of two kinds of harvest ways, which were keeping some of the axial shoot and harvesting all of the shoot by the end of the year. Then, the agronomic traits and yield were measured and the contents of polysaccharides and extractum were determined. The results showed that the harvest ways significantly affected the growth of D. officinale. Keeping some of the axial shoot could significantly improved the number of sprout, stem length, internode number and the internodal length, which also triggered increase the weight of fresh stems, leaves and the total of them and dry stems in per unit area, but it could not promote the stem diameter and the polysaccharide content in stems. Keeping some of the axial shoot moderately was conducive to the improvement of the production of medicinal materials in the process of harvesting by promoting the germination and growth of new buds, and to ensure the polysaccharide content by regulating the illumination and the density of cultivation.

AIM: To evaluate visual acuity outcomes after phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation in patients with wet age-related macular degeneration (wAMD).METHODS: We reviewed the medical documents of the patients who underwent phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation surgery during June 2013 and January 2016.Totally 61 eyes of 48 patients with wAMD in the stable stage were recruited.The pre-and post-operative vision of selected cases were recorded and compared.RESULTS: After phacoemulsification and intralocular lens implantation, visual acuity changes were as follows: 49 eyes improved, 11 eyes retained, and 1 eye deteriorated.Visual acuity improvement after cataract surger were statistically significant (P<0.001).Visual acuity improvement was not related to age.CONCLUSION: Visual acuity improved in patients with wet AMD after phacoemulcification and intraocular lens implantation.

AIM:To evaluate 23G vitrectomy for macular edema in eyes with retinal vein occlusion (RVO) combined with vitreoretinal traction (VMT) or epiretinal membrane (ERM).METHODS:Totally 22 patients (22 eyes) diagnosed with macular edema of RVO combined with VMT or ERM were retrospectively analyzed.Twelve cases performed with 23G vitrectomy together with peeling of inner limiting membrane (ILM) and/or ERM were considered as the observation group or intervention group.Ten cases without vitrectomy were recruited as control group.The best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and central retinal thickness (CRT) at baseline, 1, 3 and 6mo were recorded and compared.RESULTS:At baseline, the difference of BCVA and CRT between observation group and control group was not statistically significant (P=0.645, 0.206).After vitrectomy, the BCVA and CRT of RVO patients in observation group were significantly improved compared with baseline at each follow-up (F=2.895, P=0.048;F=16.431, P<0.01).However, the BCVA and CRT in control group remained the same as baseline at every follow-up.Moreover, the BCVA and CRT in observation group were much better than that in control group at both 3 and 6mo after vitrectomy.However, the BCVA and CRT between two groups were not significantly different at 1mo postoperatively.CONCLUSION:The 23G vitrectomy could markedly improve BCVA and reduce CRT in RVO patients with macular edema combined with VMT and/or ERM.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the inhibitory effect of arsenic trioxide, aspirin and their combination on the growth of human gastric adenocarcinoma SGC-7901 graft in nude mice.

METHODSThirty-one model nude mice with transplanted tumor of human gastric adenocarcinoma SGC-7901 were established successfully by fixing tumor tissue under the left axillary subcutaneously. They were randomly divided into 4 groups and treated respectively with normal saline (control group, n = 7), aspirin (Asp group, n = 8), arsenic trioxide (AT group, n = 8), and AT +Asp (combined treated group, n = 8), medicated by intraperitoneal injection for 14 successive days. All mice were sacrificed 48 h after the final medication, the transplanted tumor mass volume and weight were measured to calculate the tumor inhibition rate, and changes of tumors and tissues of heart, liver, and kidney, etc were observed. Moreover, expressions of proliferation associated protein Ki67 and apoptosis inhibitory protein Bcl-2 were detected by immunohistochemical SP method, and expression of apoptosis associated protein Bax was detected by Western blotting.

RESULTSAfter terminating the medication, in the combined treated group the tumor volume and weight were significantly lower than those in the control group (P < 0.05) and the tumor weight was lower than that in the AT and Asp groups (both P < 0.05). The volume inhibition rate was 59.12% in the AT group, 47.60% in the Asp group, and 76.70% in the combined treated group, and the weight inhibition rate in them 35.60%, 45.44% and 63.90%, respectively. Immunochemical staining showed that as compared with the control group, expressions of Ki67 and Bcl-2 were down-regulated in all the three treated groups to some extent (all P < 0.05), and significant difference was also shown in comparison of the two indices between the combined treated group with the other two treated groups (P < 0.05). The expression of Bax was higher in the combined treated group than in other groups (all P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONCombined use of AT and Asp has certain cooperative effect in inhibiting the growth of gastric carcinoma cells without obvious toxic-side effects.

To elucidate the adsorption mechanism of CS-A to the surface of titanium, 5 ml solutions of the CS-A were reacted with 2 g of native and 2 g of calcium-treated titanium powder for 48 h at 37 degrees C. Residual CS-A was detected by the carbazole elaborate method. The results showed that no CS-A attached to native titanium. Comparatively, titanium treated with calcium produced a significant adsorption of CS-A. At concentration of 60 micrograms/ml, the adsorption of CA-A to calcium-treated titanium powder attained the maximum, 83 micrograms/g. Only EDTA can liberate the bound CS-A from titanium surface. These findings suggest that calcium ion is necessary for the adsorption of CS-A to titanium.

?AIM: To retrospectively analyze the surgical strategies and outcome of traumatic lens dislocation.?METHODS: Retrospective study. Clinical data of 105 cases ( 105 eyes ) diagnosed with traumatic lens dislocation from April to June 2014 in our hospital were recruited. According to position of dislocated lens and complicated situations, different surgical approaches were performed, including intracapsular lens extraction, phacoemulsification, vitrectomy through pars plana and lensectomy. Meanwhile, vitreo-retinal or anti-glaucoma surgeries were performed in complicated cases. Preoperative and postoperative LogMar ( Logarithm of the Minimum Angle of Resolution ) visual acuity were compared by paired t-test. Perioperative complications including expulsive choroidal hemorrhages and recurrent retinal detachment were recorded and assessed.?RESULTS: All 105 dislocated lenses were removed completely. Visual acuity of 91 eyes ( 86. 7%) were significantly improved postoperatively. The visual acuity of most patients was 0. 1-0. 3 ( 42 eyes, 40. 0%) and 1 patient’s visual acuity with lens subluxation reached more than 0. 8 postoperatively. Expulsive choroidal hemorrhages occurred in 1 eye intraoperatively and 1 eye postoperatively. Recurrent retinal detachment was observed in 2 eyes postoperatively.? CONCLUSION: According to position of the lens dislocation, personalized surgery strategy is critical for therapy of traumatic lens dislocation. Expulsive choroidal hemorrhage is one of most several complications and should be managed properly.

Objective To develop and test the reliability and validity of organizational climate scale for nursing.Methods Based on interviews and literature reviews,an organizational climate scale for nursing Was developed.Then,using stratified random sampling method,the reliability and validity were tested based on the data of 720 registered nurses in 4 Harbin hespitais.Results The adapted and revised scales ineluded four subscales.which accounted for 53.73% of the variance,and the factor loading of the itenms ranged from 0.452～ 0.735.The Cmnbaeh's alpha coefficient for the total scale was 0.927 and for the four subscales ranged from 0.702～0.877.Correlations between each dimeusion and total questionnaire were from 0.785～0.919.Correlations between each dimension were from 0.564-0.711.Conclusions The organizational climate scale for nursing has good reliability and validity,which can be applied to nursing field.

Objective To assess the relationship between cardiovascular risk factors and osteoporosis. Methods 2202 women aged 50-73 years were included in this cross-sectional study from the communities in Guangzhou, from July 2008 to January 2010. Cardiovascular risk factors including age, years since menopause, physical activity, anthropometrics, body composition, blood pressure, fasting serum lipids, glucose and uric acid, intima-media thickness(IMT) of carotid artery were assessed. Ultrasonic bone density (speed of sound) at the radius and tibia were determined. Osteoporosis was defined as T-score≤-2.5. Common factors for the cardiovascular risk factors were extracted using the factor analysis method. Results Eight common factors representing obesity, lean mass, blood triglycerides and uric acid, cholesterol, age, blood pressure, IMT and physical activity were extracted. Data from the Multivariate logistic regression showed a dose-dependent association of greater scores of age and IMT factors and lower score of lean mass factor with the increased risk of osteoporosis at the radius and tibia. As compared with the bottom quartile, the OR (95%CI) of radius and tibia osteoporosis were 0.62 (0.44-0.88) and 0.62 (0.48-0.80) for lean mass factor, 4.02 (2.72-5.94) and 3.68(2.81-4.82) for age factor, 1.41 (1.00-2.00) and 1.54 (1.19-2.00) for IMT factors, respectively. Moreover, greater blood pressure score was associated with higher risk of radius osteoporosis while the higher obese score, was correlated with the increased risk of tibia osteoporosis. Conclusion The cardiovascular-related risk factors of greater IMT, obesity, blood pressure and lower lean mass scores were associated with increased osteoporosis risks while called for more concern among the Chinese women.

Objective To investigate the causes,consequences and management of injuries to the draining veins after embolization of brain arteriovenous malformations(BAVMs)with ?-n-butyl cyanoacrylate (NBCA).Methods The angiographic imaging data of 189 BAVMs patients who underwent NBCA embolization were studied retrospectively.The status of the draining veins before and after NBCA embolization was observed and compared.The intracerebral hemorrhage(ICH)complications and their relation to their angiographic features were analyzed.Results Twenty-three patients out of 189 patients showed injuries to the draining venous system,including 10 low-grade injury,6 moderate injury,and 7 high- grade injury.Six patients suffered from ICH after embolization,of whom 4 patients were due to injuries of the draining veins(2 moderate and 2 high-grade).In the 3 months follow-up evaluation of 4 patients with ICH, one died,one was in vegetative state,and the other two patients suffered from residual severe or minor (1 patient for each)permanent neurological deficits.Conclusion Our findings suggest that injury of the draining veins is the major cause of ICH and may lead to serious consequences after embolization of BAVMs with NBCA.
