Journal of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (Medical Sciences) 2007;27(6):703-5
To explore the clinical value of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in differentiating benign and malignant focal liver lesions (FLLs) with SonoVue, CEUS was used to examine 113 patients with focal liver lesions (FLLs) in our hospital during July 2005 to December 2006. All the patients underwent contrast-enhanced CT (CECT) or contrast-enhanced MRI (CEMRI). Except for patients with focal fatty sparings (n=18) and with hemangiomas (n=8), all the patients were confirmed by operation or ultrasonic-guided liver puncture biopsy. A sulfur hexafluoride gas-based contrast agent was used with a MI of 0.15 to 0.17. Forty-eight cases of malignant FLLs, including 30 hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs), 2 cholangiocarcinomas and 16 metastatic tumors, were detected. Seventy-eight cases of benign FLLs, including 33 hemangiomas, 9 focal nodular hyperplasias (FNHs), 19 focal fatty sparings, 5 abscesses, 7 regenerative nodules and 2 inflammatory pseudo-tumor, were involved. The contrast pattern of benign and malignant FLLs was quite different. CEUS has higher specificity and sensitivity than conventional ultrasound in differentiating benign and malignant FLLs.

Aim To study the effect of cyclosporin A and tetrand ri ne on P-glycoprotein (P-gp)of bovine brain capillary endothelial cell. M ethods The fluorescent dye, rhodamine-123 (Rh-123) was used to evaluate t he functional activity of the P-glycoprotein (P-gp) efflux transport system in primary cultured bovine brain capillary endothelial cell (BCEC) monolayer. Results Rhodamine-123 accumulation was increased significantly in monola yer treated with the P-gp modifying agent, cyclosporin A and tetrandrine. Conclusion The observation suggests that this Rh-123 method is sens itive, stable to evaluate the function of P-gp of blood-brain barrier (BBB). R h-123 accumulation is also increased by tetrandrine in dose-dependent manner.

The effect of nateglinide or sequential treatment with metformin on glycemic stability in newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes was investigated. Thirty-four cases of newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes received nateglinide therapy, or sequential treatment with metformin according to fasting and postprandial blood glucose, and were classified into isolated nateglinide therapy group(n=14) and sequentially treated with metformin group(n=20). Glycemic stability, reflected by mean amplitude of glycemic excursions(MAGE) and HbA1C, was determined in all patients before and after therapy for three months. HbA1C and MAGE in two groups were all improved after treatment(P<0.05). The therapy of nateglinide alone or combined with metformin can significantly improve glycemic stability in newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes.

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of Zishen Tongyang Huoxue Formula combined with western medicine in treating angina pectoris caused by coronary heart disease (CHD).Methods Ninety patients were randomly divided into control group, TCM group and combining group, each group of 30 cases. The control group was given western medicine standardized treatment;the TCM group was treated with Zishen Tongyang Huoxue Formula only;the combining group took Zishen Tongyang Huoxue Formula and western medicine standardized treatment. The treatment course for the three groups lasted for four weeks. The clinical presentations, angina pectoris, ECG and serum biomarkers of patients in the three groups were assessed and evaluated before and after treatment. Results The clinical symptoms of TCM were significantly improved;the duration of angina was shortened;the dosage of nitroglycerin reduced after the treatment (P<0.05). The effects in the combining group was more evident compared with the other two groups (P<0.05), but there was no statistical difference between the other two groups (P>0.05). The total TCM effective rates of three groups were 83.33% (25/30), 83.33% (25/30) and 96.67% (29/30), respectively, among which the combining group was more significant (P<0.05). The total ECG effective rates of three groups were 70.00% (21/30), 76.67% (23/30) and 76.67% (23/30), respectively. Hs-CRP, IL-6 and HCY in the three groups decreased after the treatment (P<0.05). The combining group was more significant than the other two groups (P<0.05), but there was no statistical difference between the other two groups (P>0.05). Blood routine test and hepatorenal function of the three groups were all in normal range before and after treatment (P>0.05).Conclusion Using Zishen Tongyang Huoxue Formula combined with western medicinein to treat angina pectoris is effective, safe, and reliable.
