Objective To promote the cure rate of operation and to decrease the operative complications in patients with upper urinary tract stone Methods The data of 962 patients with upper urinary tract stone operatively treated in our department from 1975 to 2002 were reviewed and analyzed Results Residual stones were found in 109 out of 673 patients (11 3 %) Of the 109 cases, conservative treatment, nephrectomy and various methods of treatment were performed in 21, 12 and 76 cases, respectively Conclusion Strict control of operative complication, proper selection of the operation type and reasonable management of the complication are the important measures to improve the cure rate of upper urinary tract stone, to greatly decrease the occurrence of residual stones and to reduce the possibility of nephrectomy

Objective To describe the epidemiological characteristics and the control effect of hypertension in Liaoning area.Methods 8 452 Residents aged 15 and above 7 districts,Liaoning province,were selected with the multistage clustering sampling in 2002.Trained staff conducted the investigation on their economic status,gender,occupation,education,marriage,smoking,drinking,occupational physical activities and so on.Blood pressure,height,weight and waist circumstance were also measured.Results The blood pressure of all subjects was(126?22)/(79?12)mm Hg,with(127?11)/(80?11) mm Hg in urban residents and(125?21)/(78?12) mm Hg in rural residents,while(128?21)/(80?12)mm Hg in male and(125?23)/(78?11)mm Hg in female.The general prevalence of hypertension was 29.4%,and the general standardized rate of hypertension was 22.5%.The prevalent rate in city(32.3%) was higher than that in city(25.4%)(P

OBJECTIVE: To explore the clinical efficacy of functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) associated with radiofrequency ablation on chronic sinusitis. METHOD: Fifty-four patients with chronic sinusitis were divided randomly into two groups: the study group and the control group, The study group received FESS associated with inferior turbinate lateral fracture and radiofrequency ablation treatment, while the control group received FESS associated with inferior turbinate lateral fracture treatment. RESULT: The SNOT-20 score, Lund-Kennedy score, mucociliary clearance time and nasal airway resistance of the patients in the two groups after treatment were significantly improved than those before treatment (P < 0.05), and the sense of nasal congestion, headache and face pain, purulent rhinorrhea, postnasal drip, and other symptoms were also relieved. After treatment, the scores of SNOT-20 and the scores of Lund-Kennedy in the study group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P < 0.05), but no significant difference was found in mucociliary clearance time between the two groups after treatment. CONCLUSION FESS associated with radiofrequency ablation surgery is safe and effective for chronic sinusitis.

Objective To observe the inhibition effect of selective cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitor (celecoxib) on the experimental choroidal neovascularization (CNV).Methods Thirty 8-10 weeks old healthy male Brown-Norway(BN) rats were randomly divided into the control,laser and celecoxib group,with 10 rats in each group.At the dosage of 50 mg/kg,celecoxib was garaged twice per day.After 7 days,experimental CNV was induced by Krypon laser on laser group and celecoxib group.Fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA) was performed on days 3,7,14,21,30 after laser photocoagulation.On days 21 after photocoagulation,5 rats in each group were sacrificed and the relative thickness of CNV membranes,the expression of COX-2,vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) Were studied by histopathologic or immunohistochemistry examination.Results On days 21 after photocoagulation,the incidence of CNV in the celecoxib group is significantly lower than that in the laser group (X~2=7.1068,P=0v0077);the relative thickness of the CNV membranes in the celecoxib group is reduced 41.38% compared to the laser group,the difference is statistically significant (t=16.7600,P=0.0000).COX-2,VEGF and MMP-2 expression in the CNV membrane of celecoxib group were significantly lower than in control group (t=5.7100,5.8400,8.0200;P=0.0000);the COX-2,VEGF and MMP-2 expressions in choroid and retina of control group were weak.Conclusion Prophylactic celecoxib can reduce the expression of VEGF and MMP-2 by inhibiting COX-2,and prevent the CNV induced by laser photocoagulation.

Past decade,plants as production systems for recombinant proteins has been actively investigated,and is one of the most active research fields in life sciences. Plants are attractive as protein factories because they with advantages of cost,scale,and safety,and emerge capability to produce pharmaceutical production with bioactivity proved by previously studies. The plant-made pharmaceuticals possess enormous viability for market and wide prospects for application. Based on those reasons,the rise of plant bioreactor was reviewed,and research advance on the expression systems and plant-made recombinant proteins was introduced. Bottleneck problems and adopted strategies using plant system to produce recombinant proteins and research hotspot in the near future were summarized,and prospect of plant bioreactor in future was described. Synchronously,some opinions including research progress of plant bioreactor,differences to foreign and strategies in the future were discussed.
