4cm) or involved the urethra、 vagina、 clitoris or anus. Pathologic grouping was 25 squamous carcinomas 3 adenocarcinomas and 2 undifferentiated carcinomas. Radiotherapy was given by angled radiation with wedge block. Dose was 65 to 70 Gy/6-7W. RESULTS Thirty patients completed their inductive chemotherapy within 30 days for 86 courses. The response rate was 86. 7% (26/30). CR was 30. 16%. 18 of 30 patients were followed-up for over 5 years. Five years survival rate was 72.2 (13/18). Major acute complications were vuvitis (23%). Late adverse effects were 1 patient with ure-throstenotic uroschesis, 1 patient with pathologic transcervical fracture. None of patients had radiation rectitis and cystitis. CONCLUSION Inductive chemotherapy consisting of modified VBP regimen was active in reducing the vulvar tumor volume. Radiotherapy used angled radiation with wedged block to treat advance vulvar cancer was fa-ciliated. Chemoradiotherapy was found to be an effective treatment for locally advanced vulvar carcinoma, with acceptable morbidity even in an elderly population. The technique allowed maintenance of normal anatomical and physiologic function that would have been compromised by primary surgical approach. It yielded survival rates comparable to those achieved with ultraradical surgery in younger patients. Life quality was improved significant-ly.

Calponin is an actin filament-associated regulatory protein expressed in smooth muscle and many types ofnonmuscle cells.Three calponin isoforms 1,2,and 3 are encoded by three homologous genes CNN1,CNN2 and CNN3 in vertebrate species with cell type-specific expression and functions.Besides modulating the activity of smooth muscle myofilaments and contractility,calponin also regulates the functions of actin cytoskeleton in non-muscle cells during cell proliferation,adhesion,migration,differentiation,phagocytosis and fusion.This review focuses on the evolution,tissue and cell type-specific expression,structure-function relationships,transcriptional regulation and relevant mechanisms.

AIM: To study the effect of genistein on c-myc mRNA expression induced by oxidized low density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) in human vascular endothelial cells (ECV304). METHODS: LDL were isolated from healthy human plasma by gradient ultracentrifugation and oxidized by CuSO4. ECV304 cells were exposed to ox-LDL 200 mg*L-1 in the presence or absence of genistein 100 μmol*L-1 for 1, 2, and 4 h in vitro. Northern blot was employed to measure c-myc mRNA levels of ECV304. RESULTS: In response to ox-LDL 200 mg*L-1, c-myc mRNA expression in ECV304 increased by 3 fold for 1h and 3.3 fold for 2 h and decreased below the control level at 4 h. Expressions of c-myc stimulated by ox-LDL in the presence of genistein 100 μmol*L-1 for 1 h and 2 h were separately 80 percent and 60 percent of that in the absence of genistein 100 μmol*L-1. CONCLUSION: Genistein can effectively inhibit c-myc mRNA expression in ECV304 induced by ox-LDL.

Objective To investigate the effects of C-terminal fragment of parathyroid hormonerelated protein (PTHrP107-139) on bone mineral density (BMD), bone histomorphometry and biomechanical properties in ovariectomized (OVX) rats and its effect on bone metabolism is also explored. Methods Forty 4-month old female Wistar rats in which 30 were ovariectomized and then divided into 3 groups: the placebo, the PTHrPC and the CT groups, the other 10 rats were Sham-operated as the control group (Sham). Five weeks later, the rats of PTHrPC and CT groups were subcutaneously injected with PTHrP107-139 (40 μg/kg) and Salmon Calcitonin (15 U/kg) respectively once every other day. The rats of the placebo and sham groups were injected with 0.2 ml saline once every other day. After treatment of 12 weeks, all rats were sacrificed and all samples were collected and analyzed. Results ① Compared with the placebo, the BMD and bone strength of PTHrPC and CT groups were significantly increased (P<0.05). ② Histomorphometry revealed that the tetracycline labeled bone surfaces, osteoid surfaces, mineral apposition rate and bone resorption rate were remarkably decreased in PTHrPC, and CT groups comparing with those of the placebo group. Conclusion Cter-minal PTHrP107-139 is effective in increasing the BMD, bone strength and quality when administered intermittently to ovariectomy-induced osteoporotic rats. Its increasing in bone quality may relate to reducing bone turnover and inhibiting resorption.

Objective To investigate the therapeutic effects of human parathyroid hormone related protein (PTHrP1-34) on osteoporosis of ovariectomized osteoporotic rats. Methods Sixty 4-month-old female Wislar rats were involved in this study and 40 of them were ovariectomized and another 20 received sham operation. After 6 weeks of ovariectomy the osteoporosis model was confirmed by examing 10 ovariectomized and sham-operated rats. The 30 osteoporotic rats were randomly divided into 3 treatment groups, i.e. PTHrP, estradiol and placebo. Human 40 ?g/kg PTHrP1-34 was subcutaneously injected once daily to PTHrP group and the estradiol group was injected with 40 ?g/kg estradiol benzoate once every 3 days.The placebo and shamoperated rats were given 0.2 ml saline every 3 days. The bone mineral density (BMD), bone histomorphology, the bone weight of dry and ash and serum Ca,P,alkaline phosphatase (ALP) were measured after 3 months' therapy. Results After 6 weeks of ovariectomy, the lumbar BMD of ovariectomized rats were significantly declined compared with those of the sham-operated rats. After 12 weeks treatment the femoral and lumbar BMD and the rate of bone weight of dry and ash in the PTHrP group were increased obviously compared with those of placebo groups.There was no significant difference between PTHrP group and estradiol group, in PTHrP group the percent age of trabecular area,trabecular width,osteoblast surface and mineral apposition rate were obviously higher than those in placebo group.Conclusion Treatment with 40 ?g/kg dose of hPTHrP1-34 administered once daily is effective in treating ovariectomy-induced osteoporosis.

The antagonism of two strains B1 and B2 of Bacillus spp. against pea root rot pathogen Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. pisi was studied. The result of pairing culture showed that B1 and B2 strains of Bacillus spp. had strong antifungal activity to the pathogen. The colonial color of the pathogen changed from gray to white, aerial hyphas increased and entangled into group after treatment with the cell-free fermentational filtrate of B1 or B2. Observation under optical microscope showed that hyphas and spores of the pathogen swelled and distorted with concentrated cytoplasm after treatment, the spores could not germinate or germinated abnormally . A lot of vesicles appeared at the top of the hyphas, and the hyphas stopped growing and broke finally, their cytoplasm spilled from the cell. The cell-free fermentational filtrate of B1 or B2 strains contained 1795.53?g/mL and 1345.93?g/mL protein respectively, from which two antifungal proteins of 103.5 kD (B1 ) and 127.6 kD (B2) were purified.

Objective To examine the levels of fractional exhaled nitric oxide in bronchial asthma and the cor-relation between fractional exhaled nitric oxide and pulmonary function tests as well as the value of pulmonary function tests in curing the children with bronchial asthma. Methods Seventy - two asthmatic children came from Guiyang Ma-ternal and Child Health Hospital were studied. They were divided into 2 groups:mild - to - moderate asthma group(36 cases)and serious asthma group(36 cases). Objective investigate the correlation between plasma soluble receptor for advanced glycation endproducts (sRAGE) and arterial stiffness in patients with different types of metabolic syndrome (MS).Methods A total of 180 subjects were drawn from a epidemiologic follow-up study,including 60 cases non-metabolic syndrome (NMS),60 cases metabolic syndrome without diabetes mellitus (NDMMS),60 cases metabolic syndrome with diabetes mellitus (DMMS).Carotid femoral arterial pulse wave velocity (CFPWV) was assessed by the French KangPuLe atherosclerosis measurement instrument,and plasma sRAGE levels were measured by ELISA.Comparison of mean in multiple groups was conducted by analysis of variance.Multivariate analysis was done with multiple linear stepwise regression analysis.P ＜ 0.05 was considered as statistically significant difference.Results Compared with NMS group,plasma sRAGE levels were significantly lower in DMMS and NDMMS groups [(635.07 ± 229.20) pg/mL vs.(671.17 ± 358.16) pg/mL vs.(992.99 ± 427.83) pg/mL,P =0.001].CFPWV of DMMS group was significantly higher than that of NMDMS and NMS groups (14.22 ±3.14) m/s vs.(12.15 ±2.79) m/s vs.(11.66 ± 2.52) m/s,P =0.002).Plasma sRAGE level was negatively correlated with CFPWV (r =-0.278,P =0.005).(3) Multiple linear regression analysis demonstrated that age (β =-0.091,95％ CI-0.096 ～-0.095,P =0.031),HDL-C (β =1.295,95％ CI 1.231 ～ 1.360,P =0.022) and sRAGE (β =0.119,95％ CI 0.118 ～ 0.130,P =0.032) had a significant effect on CFPWV.Conclusions The increased arterial stiffness is closely related to the discreased plasma sRAGE levels in MS.Plasma sRAGE maybe a novel target for vascular disease prevention and treatment in patients with metabolic syndrome.
