Acta Nutrimenta Sinica 1956;0(02):-
Low zinc (1.4-1.5 ppm) ration containing saturated fat (coconut oil) was fed to weanling rats, death occurred since second week. In third week, total death was 55%. The survivors manifested severe Zn-deficiency symptoms. When they were given Zn supplement in drinking water (100 ppm Zn), the deficient symptoms disappeared quickly and body weights increased rapidly. When coconut oil was replaced by safflower oil, the rats didn't show any Zn-deficiency symptom in 4 weeks. There was no difference in Zn contents of plasma and hair between Zn-deficient rats and the normals. Adjusting fatty acids composition of dietary fat to contain linoleic acid at 20% of total fatty acids, the rats manifested Zn-deficient symptoms after 2 weeks, and Zn contents of plasma and hair were significantly lower than that of normal rats(P

Acta Nutrimenta Sinica 1956;0(02):-
Zinc deficient rats were injected subcutaneously each day for 3 weeks with 250 ?l evening primrose oil (EPO, containing 10% Y-linolenic acid and 73% linoleic acid) or safflower oil (SFO, containing 77% linoleic acid only) and compared with zinc supplemented group (ZnS) and zinc deficient group (ZnD) without injections. At the end of the experiment, rats were killed under anaesthesia, organ weights, zinc content of kidneys, blood cholesterol and fatty acid compositions were determined. The results showed animals in EPO group had the best recoveries both in deficient symptoms and in body weights, the zinc content of kidneys was the highest, the serum cholesterol level was significantly lower than those of SFO and ZnD groups, but no difference from ZnS group. The total percentage of 22-C and above(?-6)polyunsatured fatty acids was the highest among those four groups. These results indicated that?-linolenic acid was beneficial to zinc deficient rats in growth, zinc utilization and the metabolism of essential fatty acids.

Objective To investigate the role of heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) in liver flbrosis in infants with biliary atresia (BA) and its impact on prognosis. Methods Fourty-six (46) cases of infants with BA undergoing elective Kasai surgery were selected. In the same period, 30 cases of children with choledochal cyst and 17 cases of children with portal vein cavernous transformation were selected. The expressions of HSP70 in liver tissues were detected using immunohistochemical staining. The liver flbrosis in children with BA was detected using Sirius red-saturated picric acid staining. The expressions of HSP70 proteins in different flbrotic liver tissues were detected by using double staining. All postoperative BA infants were followed up and ended at June 30, 2016.Results The proportion of high expression of HSP 70 proteins in BA infants were signiflcantly higher than that in children with choledochal cyst and vein cavernous transformation (P<0.05). Rank correlation analysis showed that the expressions of HSP70 in liver tissues were positively correlated with the degree of liver flbrosis (r=0.861,P<0.05). 15 patients died among 46 cases of BA infants. The survival rate in BA children with mild liver flbrosis was 82.4%, which was signiflcantly higher than 58.6% in the severe group (P<0.05). The survival rate in HSP70 protein low expression group was 85.0%, while in HSP70 protein high expression group was 53.8%. Kaplan-meier survival analysis showed that the median survival time in the HSP70 protein low expression group was (34.0±2.6) months, while in the HSP70 protein high expression group was (18.3±2.2) months, the difference was statistically signiflcant (χx2=4.765,P=0.029).Conclusions The expressions of HSP70 proteins in liver tissues in infants with BA were high and were positively correlated with the degree of hepatic flbrosis. It suggested the possible involvement of HSP70 in the process of liver fibrosis. The upregulated expressions of HSP70 often indicated poor prognosis in children. It could be used as determining biomarker for prognosis.

Chinese Journal of Applied Physiology 2004;20(2):185-188
AIMTo explore the characteristics of the urinary excretion in the elderly patients and to offer some advice for the prevention and treatment of hyponatremia in the elderly patients.
METHODS42 inpatients aged over 80 were divided into tow groups according to their creatinine clearance rate (CCR). Meanwhile, 24 patients aged 45-59 and 31 patients aged 60-79 were chosen as the control groups. All patients were examined 24h urinary electrolytes and CCR.
RESULTS(1) The CCR in the elderly group was lower than in the middle-aged and old group and the 24 h urinary sodium excretion was accordingly diminished than the two groups. 24 h urinary sodium excretion in CCR abnormal group was also diminished than in CCR normal group. The urinary sodium excretion was not linearly correlate with the CCR in middle-aged group and old group but was linearly correlate in the elderly group. (2) The elderly patients' capability of holding blood sodium and excreting potassium was declined in the CCR normal group. But the urinary excretion of sodium, potassium and phosphonium were all diminished in CCR abnormal group. (3) All patients' sodium intake was higher than the criteria made by China Hypertension Association.
CONCLUSIONTheir urinary sodium excretion is linearly correlate with CCR. Urinary sodium excretion is increased when the elderly patients' renal function is relative normal but when the renal function is severely damaged, urinary sodium excretion is diminished.

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of modified Huanglian Wendan Decoction for treatment of tic disorder (TD) children with syndrome of wind stirring due to phlegm-heat; To detect its effects on peripheral-blood miR-429 expression. Methods Eighty cases of TD children were randomly divided into treatment group and control group, with 40 cases in each group. In the treatment group, children were treated with modified Huanglian Wendan Decoction, one dosage a day, twice a day, orally. In the control group, TD children were treated with haloperidol, 0.03 mg/(kg?d), orally, according to the symptom to adjust dose, and the maximum amount did not exceed 0.08 mg/(kg?d). 30 d was a treatment course for both groups. The treatment lasted for three courses. Before and after 3 months of clinical observation, the severity of disease was evaluated by TCM syndrome and Yale Global Tic Severity Scale (YGTSS) score. Clinical efficacy and TCM syndrome efficacy were evaluated; the level of miR-429 in peripheral blood was detected; the adverse reactions were observed. Results The total effective rate of clinical efficacy was 82.5% (33/40) in treatment group and 80.0% (32/40) in the control group, without statistical significance (P>0.05); The total effective rate of TCM syndrome efficacy was 92.5% (37/40) in treatment group and 75.0% (30/40) in the control group, with statistical significance (P<0.05). Compared with before treatment, the YGTSS score and TCM syndrome score significantly decreased after treatment (P<0.01), and the TCM syndrome score in the treatment group was much lower than the control group after treatment (P<0.05). Compared with before treatment, miR-429 level in both groups increased obviously after treatment (P<0.01), and the miR-429 level in the treatment group was much higher than the control group after treatment (P<0.05). There were mild constipation (1 cases), diarrhea (2 cases), and anorexia (2 cases) in the treatment group, and obvious lethargy (3 cases) and dizziness (3 cases) in the control group. Conclusion Modified Huanglian Wendan Decoction shows obvious effects for treating TD, and can up-regulate miR-429 of peripheral-blood.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the protective effect and action mechanism of petroleum ether extracts from Saussurea involucrate on brain tissues of hypoxia rats under constant pressure and closed conditions.
METHODThe PESI dosage-dependent experiment for hypoxia rats was conducted under constant pressure and closed conditions by intraperitoneally injecting 125, 250, 500 mg x kg(-1) to finalize that the optimum dosage is the high dose of PESI. Afterwards, 90 Wistar rats were randomly divided into the hypoxic model group, the acetazolamide 250 mg x kg(-1) group and the PESI high dose group. Each group was further divided into three subgroups according to different hypoxia times, with 10 rats in each subgroup. Under the same hypoxia and administration conditions, the rats were sacrificed after 0, 3, 6 h respectively. Their brain samples were collected for common pathological observation and immunohistochemical staining of HIF-1alpha. Real-time RT-PCR was used to detect HIF-1alpha, EPO, HO-1 and Caspase-3 gene expressions. And the Western blot assay was adopted to detect HIF-1alpha protein expression.
RESULTThe brain tissues of the hypoxia model group were severely damaged with the increase in the hypoxia time. The acetazolamide group and the PESI high does group were damaged in a much lower degree. According to the gene expression and the Western blot assay, high dose of PESI could inhibit HIF-1alpha expression. According to the pure gene expression test, high dose of PESI could increase EPO and HO-1 mRNA expressions, but inhibit Caspase-3 mRNA expression.
CONCLUSIONPESI's protective mechanism for brain tissues of hypoxia rats under constant pressure and closed conditions may be related to its effects in inhibiting HIF-1alpha expression, increasing EPO expression and resisting cell apoptosis.
