Because of the particularity and the complexity of integrated management of food, government regulators must perform the whole process of quality control and trace to evaluate and judge the merits of food instead of only depending on product standards.Quality metrics is a new concept for the food industry, and can be regarded as the comprehensive evaluation and measurement for product quality and the standard for judging the quality of food products.Request for Quality Metrics Guidance for Industry was issued, which not only established a new model for the quality control of pharmaceutical industry, but also provided a new way of quality management for the inspection organization.By introducing the contents of Request for Quality Metrics Guidance for Industry issued by the US FDA, on the basis of summarization and thought, the quality management and evaluation of pharmaceutical industry was compared, and the feasibility and applicability of quality metrics management in inspection and testing field, especially in food testing field was evaluated. In this paper, the concept of quality metrics was extended to the level of food inspection laboratory management with hope to provide ideas for the future development of food quality management model.

Objective To evaluate the mechanism of external branch of the superior laryngeal nerve (EBSLN) injury during thyroid surgery as showed by intraoperative neuromonitoring. Methods 70 patients with 109 nerves at risk were enrolled in this study from March 2011 to October 2011.A positive signal is determined by observing contractions of the cricothyroid muscle. The relationship between EBSLN and the upper pole of the thyroid or the inferior constrictor muscle was studied. Results 108 nerves (99.1%) were located successfully,42 of which were visualized (38.9%).55 nerves (50.9%) crossed the superior thyroid artery more than 1 cm apart, while the other 53 nerves (49.1%) went less than 1 cm including 24 nerves(more than 0.5 cm,less than 1 cm) and 29 nerves (less than 0.5 cm) or coursed below the superior pole of the thyroid. The rate of the latter type was significantly elevated in patients with the top to botton diameter of the gland more than 5 cm.One patient suffered from impairing in the production of high tones postoperatively. Conclusions Intraoperative neuromonitoring is useful and helpful in providing instructive information for operations by locating EBSLN.

Objective To analyze the distribution of common chromosomal karyotypes of patients with Turner syndrome (TS), and to explore the correlation between the age and height standard deviation scores (HSDS) on diagnosis. Methods Retrospective investigation was performed for the data of age and HSDS on diagnosis in 273 TS girls(≤ 18.0 years old)diagnosed by chromosomal karyotypes. The main statistical methods were analyzed with t-test and Pearson correlation test by using the SPSS 18.0 statistical software. Results (1) There were 4 kinds of common chromosomal karyotypes in the TS :45, X (87/273 cases,31.9%),46, X, i (Xq) (43/273 cases, 15.7%) ,45, X/46, X, i (Xq) (36/273 cases, 13.2%) and 45, X/46, XX (23/273 cases, 8.4%), respectively, the adolescent TS all had delayed puberty. For the cases with 45, X karyotypes ,3 cases presented mental retardation and 2 cases with organs deformity.(2)The patients with 45 ,X/46,X,i(Xq) karyotypes or with 46,X,i(Xq) karyotypes had the maximum(12.56 age) or the minimum(9.70 age) mean age on diagnosis, respectively, there was a significant difference between 2 groups (t =3.019, P =0.004).The maximum deviation from normal height was found in the patients with karyotypes of 46, X,i (Xq) (HSDS =-4.04), and the minimum deviation was in the patients with karyotypes of 45,X/46, XX (HSDS =-3.16), and there was a significant difference between 2 groups (t =-2.95, P =0.004).(3) More than 75.7% of TS patients was diagnosed when their heights deviated above 3 SD,and their mean age on diagnosis was 12.10 age, which was 3 years later than those patients within 2 SD.(4) There was a significant negative correlation between the age and HSDS on diagnosis in the groups of common chromosomal karyotypes[45,X、46,X,i(Xq) and 45,X/46,XX] (r =-0.551,-0.560,-0.622,all P < 0.01), except for the group with the 45, X/46, X, i (Xq).Conclusions (1) In this study, the consti-tuent ratios of these 4 common chromosomal karyotypes were different from those in Europe and America's.(2)Patients with 45 ,X may have more severe symptoms than others.(3)The mean age on diagnosis was at least 3.0 years earlier when considered HSDS below-2.00 as an indicator for chromosomal karyotype screening, which would facilitate earlier diagnosis.

[ ABSTRACT] AIM: To investigate the underlying mechanisms responsible for endothelial dysfunction of type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM) rats fed with high-salt diet.METHODS:Type 1 DM was induced by intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (70 mg/kg).Normal and diabetic rats were fed high-salt food (HS, 8% NaCl) and standard food for 6 weeks, respectively.Isometric tension of the mesenteric arteries were measured .The expression of Akt , endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) and caveolin-1 (Cav-1) was examined by Western blot .RESULTS:The rats in DM+HS group exhibited more pronounced impairment of vasorelaxation to acetylcholine and insulin compared with either DM group or HS group (P<0.01).Akt and eNOS phosphorylation levels, and nitric oxide (NO) concentration in DM +HS group were significantly lower than those in DM group (P<0.01).The level of Cav-1 in DM+HS group was significantly higher than that in DM group and HS group .CONCLUSION:Impaired endothelial Akt activation , increased Cav-1 expression and re-sultant decreased eNOS activation contribute to aggravate high-salt diet-induced endothelial dysfunction and hypertension in DM rats.

Objective To study the influence of Rhizoma typhonii extract on the growth of glioma SHG-44 cells cultured invitro, and to explore the mechanism of the inhibitory effect of Rhizoma typhonii extract on the growth of glioma cells. Methods The SHG-44 cells were cultured and divided into blank control group and 8, 40, 200, 1 000μg·L-1 Rhizoma typhonii extract groups. The inhibitory effect of Rhizoma typhonii extract on the growth of glioma SHG-44 cells was measured by MTT assay. The secretion levels of Bax and caspase-3 proteins were examined by ELISA assay. The expression level of caspase-3 protein was examined by Western blotting method. Results Compared with blank control group, the inhibitory rates of the growth of SHG-44 cells in 200, 1 000μg·L-1 Rhizoma typhonii extract groups at 24 h,and 8,40,200,and 1 000μg·L-1 Rhizoma typhonii extract groups at 48 h were significantly increased (P<0.05 or P<0.01).The secretion levels of Bax and caspase-3 proteins in 40,200,and 1 000μg· L-1 Rhizoma typhonii extract groups at 48 h were increased compared with blank control group (P<0.05 or P<0.01 ). Compared with blank control group, the expression levels of caspase-3 protein in different doses of Rhizoma typhonii extract groups were increased significantly (P<0.01). Conclusion Rhizoma Typhonii extract can inhibit the growth of cells through up-regulating the expression of Bax protein, increasing the expression level of caspase-3 protein and activating apoptosis pathway.
