·AIM:To investigate the effect of β1-integrin overexpression on the adhesion and migration of rabbit corneal epithelial (RCE) cells.·METHODS:Eukaryotic expression vector encoding β1-integrin-GFP fusion DNA was transfected into RCE cells, and the β1-integrin-GFP fusion gene was examined by RT-PCR and Western blot. The adhesion to Matrigel and the migration of the transfected cells were determined by adhesion and mobility assays. The phosphorylation of focal adhesion kinase (FAK) was examined by Western blot.·RESULTS:The overexpression of β1-integrin-GFP fusion gene by RCE cells was successfully established.β1-integrin transfection significantly promoted the adhesion of RCE cells to Matrigel ( P < 0.05 ).β1-integrin overexpression also promoted the migration ability of RCE cells and induced FAK phosphorylation in them (P < 0.05).·CONCLUSION:These data suggest that overexpression of β1-integrin promotes the adhesion and migration of RCE cells and that the FAK pathway may play an important role in this process.

Objective In order to find the polymorphism site applicable to efficient genetic diagnosis on Haemophilia A in Han Chinese Population in Wenzhou. Methods With the method of polymerase chain reaction(PCR) and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis(PAGE),288 of X chromosomes from 96 men and 96 women were detected on the polymorphism of BCL I in the intron 18 of FV Ⅲ gene. Results The gene frequency of the polymorphic site BCL I was 34.38% in Han Chinese population in Wenzhou.43.75% women were heterozygous and the polymorphism information content(PIC) was 0.4512.Conclusion For Han Chinese population in Wenzhou, the BCL I genetic site has enough information, being one of the genetic markers with high polymorphism, applicable to the screening for carrier and prenatal diagnosis of Haemophilia A in Wenzhou.

Objective To study the efficiency enhancement and toxicity reduction effects of scutellaria barbata polysaccharides(SBPS) on mice treated with cytoxan(CTX).Methods Transplanted H22 hepatoma mice were randomly divided into negative control group,CTX group and combined SBPS and CTX group. After 10 d of consecutive drug administration, the tumor inhibitory rate, blood white cell count, phagocytic index and activity of IL-2 were measured. Results SBPS increased the tumor inhibitory rate and reduced the toxicity of cytoxan, and enhanced the function of mononuclear phagocytes and the activity of IL-2 and TNF-?.Conclusions SBPS has efficiency enhancement and toxicity reduction effects on cytoxan, and the mechanism may be by increasing the immunologic function of the organism.

ObjectiveTo compare the effect of aripiprazole and haldol on intelligence and memory in the first-onset schizophrenia patients.MethodsResultsThe total score of PANSS significantly decreased after treatment with aripiprazole and haldol but no significant difference were found between two groups (P>0.05).The total score of WAIS-RC was no significant different between two groups (P>0.05). The total score of WMS was significantly higher in aripiprazole group than in haldol group(P<0.05~0.01).ConclusionAripiprazole is more effective on memory recovery in first-onset schizophrenia than haldol.

Three cases of successful pregnancy outcome after intensive care in the patients with rare mullerian anomaly of complete uterine septum, hypoplastic cervical duplication and longitudinal vaginal septum in infertility clinic are reported. These presented three cases are the reports of supporting the embryologic hypothesis of bidirectional mullerian development which fusion and resorption begins at the isthmus and proceeds simultaneously in both the cranial and caudal directions rather than the classical views of unidirectional(caudal to cranial) mullerian development. Thus, we present here three cases of rare mullerian anomaly and their pregnancy outcomes in an attempt to alert gynecologist to the possible occurrence of such a malformation. In 2 cases, successful pregnancy outcomes were achieved after abdominal or hysteroscopic uterine septotomy before pregnancy and in the last case, successful pregnancy outcome intensive obstetric care was achieved even under uncorrected uterine anomaly and complete removal of uterine septum resulted in uneventful postoperative courses at the same time of cesarean section.

Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society 2006;39(6):451-454
We present a case of a 68-year-old female with an atypical form of spinal tuberculosis, which involved posterior elements with multiple foci in two noncontiguous vertebral levels. The lesions caused spastic paraparesis and urinary hesitation. There was no evidence of pulmonary or other extrapulmonary tuberculous disease. Based on clinical and radiographic findings, this atypical spinal tuberculosis was preoperatively misdiagnosed as metastatic spine tumor. The histopathologic finding confirmed tuberculosis and the patient was treated successfully with surgery and antituberculous therapy. In case of a spinal lesion of unknown origin, it is important to be aware that atypical spinal tuberculosis can mimic metastatic spine tumor and tuberculosis should always be considered.
