Objective To build three-dimensional model of the pancreas and peripanercatic organs to provide morphological basis for imaging diagnosis and operation selection of pancreas diseases. Methods Serial cross-sectional images from the first Chinese visible human dataset were reviewed and the structures of pancreas and peripancreatic organs were reconstructed three-dimensionally by using 3D-Doctor software on PC. Results Three-dimensional structures of pancreas and peripancreatic organs were reconstructed successfully. All reconstructed structures could be displayed in multiple methods and color modes. Conclusions The internal and adjacent struc-tures of pancreas can be clearly shown on the reconstructed three-dimensional images. The visible model is a useful reference both for clinical diagnosis and surgical practice.

Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases 2002;52(6):616-626
BACKGROUND:The present study was performed to further improve our understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved in the activation of NFkB, a major transcriptional factor involved in the inflammatory response in the inflammatory response in the lung, by particulate matter in lung epithelial cells wit an aerodynamic diameter of less than 2.5 micro meter(PM2.5). METHODS: Immediate production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and nitrogen species (RNS), with the PM2.5 induced expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), IkB degradatio and NFkB-dependent transcrptional activity, in A 549 cells, were monitored. Addition, we also examined the effect of the iNOS inhibitor, L-N6-(1-iminoethyl) lysine hydrochloride (L-NIL), on the PM 2.5-induced NFkB activation in A 549 cells. RESULTS:The rapid degradation of IkB and the increase of transcriptional activity of the NFkB-dependent promotor were observed in A 549 cells exposed to PM2.5. The immediate production of ROS in response to PM2.5 in A 549 cells was not clearly detected, although immediate responses were observed in RAW 264.7 cells. A549 cells, cultured in the presence of PM2.5, produced an increase in NO, which was noticeably significant after 15 min of exposure with the expression of iNOS mRNA. The addition of L-NIL, an iNOS inhibitor, significantly inhibited the PM2.5-induced IkB degradation and the increase of the NFkB-dependent transcriptional activity. CONCLUSION: These results suggest that PM2.5 stimulates the immediate production of RNS, leading to the activation of NFkB in the pulmonary epithelium.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the regional anatomy of the inguinal region and abdominal ring and provide accurate anatomic basis for the clinical application of total peritoneum intraperitoneal onlay mesh (TPIPOM).
METHODSThe structures of the inguinal region and those surrounding the abdominal ring of 18 cadavers (11 males and 7 females, 36 sides) were dissected to measure the lengths from the nerves and vessels to the corresponding anatomical landmarks.
RESULTSThe average distances from the point where the iliohypogastric nerve (IHN) ran through the obliquus internus abdominis to anterosuperior iliac spine and from the point where the IHN ran through the aponeurosis of the external oblique muscle of the abdomen to the superior margin of the symphysis pubica were 4.10±0.89 cm and 5.02±1.46 cm, respectively. The average distances from the point where the ilioinguinal nerve (IGN) ran through the obliquus internus abdominis to the anterosuperior iliac spine and from the point where IGN ran through the aponeurosis of the external oblique muscle of the abdomen to the superior surface of the tuberculum pubicum were 3.09±0.81 cm and 3.84±0.89 cm, respectively. We established the regional anatomy model of the structures surrounding the abdominal ring.
CONCLUSIONThe quantitative measurement of important structures of the inguinal region and establishment of the regional anatomy model of the surrounding structures of the abdominal ring can provide a valuable reference to reduce intraoperative and postoperative complications of TPIPOM.

OBJECTIVETo develop an approach to the determination of saponins in Radix Cynanchi Atrati, and to optimize the parameters for purified the preparation of total saponins by macroporous resin column chromatography.
METHODUsing cynanversicoside A as a reference, the determination of saponins was performed; according to the elution rate and the purity of the products, the preparation performance of total saponins by macroporous resin was investigated, and its parameters were optimized.
RESULTThe saponins in Radix Cynanchi Atrati were successfully determined at 518 nm by vanillin-perchloric acid as spray reagent. The macroporous resin HP-20 showed static absorption ratio of 59. 3 mg x g(-1); the 70% ethanol extraction of Radix Cynanchi Atrati was eluted from column of macroporous resin HP-20 by water and 30% ethanol, and the saponins were concentrated in 90% ethanol solution. The content of saponin part eluted from HP-20 column was 77.62%.
CONCLUSIONThe proposed approach allows convenient and efficient preparation and purification of saponin in Radix Cynanchi Atrati.

Journal of Southern Medical University 2010;30(2):292-294
OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of iodine-125 implantation on immune cell subsets and cytokine production in patients undergoing hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) resection.
METHODSSixty-eight patients with resectable HCC were randomly divided into intrahepatic iodine-125 embedding group and control group. The percentages of T lymphocyte phenotypes (CD3(+), CD4(+), CD8(+)), NK cells, and the plasma concentrations of IL-4, IL-10, IL-12 and IFN-gamma of the patients were determined with flow cytometry and ELISA, respectively.
RESULTSIn the control group, the postoperative CD3(+) and CD4(+) immunocytes were (39.38-/+6.98)% and (24.34-/+3.18)%, significantly lower than the preoperative levels [(62.58-/+8.67)% and (30.63-/+4.19)%, respectively, P<0.05)]. The postoperative concentrations of IL-4 and IL-10 were (29.83-/+7.99) and (87.54-/+2.89) ng/L, significantly higher than the preoperative levels (10.35-/+8.76 and 64.25-/+2.54 ng/L, respectively, P<0.05). In the treatment group, the percentages of the immunocytes and cytokine concentrations underwent no significant changes after the operation, but postoperative IL-12 (89.46-/+11.43 ng/L) and IFN-gamma (47.78-/+5.45 ng/L) levels were significantly higher than the preoperative levels (36.13-/+9.16 and 7.14-/+2.17 ng/L, respectively, P<0.05). Significant differences were found between the two groups in the postoperative CD3(+) and CD4(+) immunocytes and IL-4, IL-10, IL-12 and IFN-gamma levels.
CONCLUSIONIodine-125 implantation can strongly stimulates the anti-tumor immune response in HCC patients by increasing CD3(+) and CD4(+) immunocytes and promoting Th2/Th1 deviation.
