BACKGROUND:Continuing stress stimulation has been confirmed to promote repair of rotator cuff injury. This experiment attempts to fu rther quantify the intensity of stress stimulation in order to reach a better therapeutic effect in the entire process of rotator cuff injury repair.OBJECTIVE:To explore the biomechanical performance of stress stimulation with different intensities on repair of acute rotator cuffinjuryMETHODS:Sixteen male New Zealand rabbits were randomly divided into high intensity, low intensity and control groups, with 12 animals in each group.Rabbits were received a rotator cuff acute injury and reconstructing insertion of supraspinatus tendon on greater tuberosity of humerus. At 1 week after operation, rabbits were treated by continuous passive motion(CPM)apparatus, which was-60°to 60° flexion-extension for the high intensity group,and-15° to 15° for the low intensity group. At 2 weeks after operation, the CPM was performed every other day, with 10 minutes per time;which was changed to daily training from week 3 with the same frequently, and 15 minutes per time at week 4.Rabbits in the control group were housed freely. Each 4 animals were sacrificed at weeks 2,3 and 4 after operation, and the largest tensile strength and severity at osteotendinous junction were compared.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The maximum tensile intensity and stiffness of the supraspinatus tendon in the low intensity group were greater than that of the control and high intensity group(P<0.05),which was smallest in the high intensity group. All the breakage point existed at the intra-articular portion. The result demonstrated that low intensity stimulation exhibits superior repair effect in acute rotator cuff injury, while high intensity stimulation is harmful to the early repair of acute rotator cuff injury.

Objective:To study the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) at the Pericardium Meridian on the heart function of volunteers with acute hypoxia, and to provide scientific evidence for the acupoints selection along the affected meridian in acupuncture-moxibustion therapy. Methods:Based on a self-control design, eighteen healthy volunteers were recruited in the study. Points from the Pericardium Meridian [Neiguan (PC 6), Ximen (PC 4), Quze (PC 3) and Tianquan (PC 2)], non-Pericardium Meridian point [Shousanli (LI 10)], non-meridian and non-acupoint points [1.0-1.5 cm lateral to Neiguan (PC 6) and Ximen (PC 4), respectively on both sides], and a blank control (only inhaling low-oxygen gas without EA stimulation) were selected to observe, once every week, 10 sessions in total, and only 1 acupoint was observed once. The volunteers inhaled low-oxygen gas mixture (10.8% O2 and 89.2% N2) for 30 min to imitate acute hypoxia. EA was conducted when the gas mixture was inhaled for 10 min and then lasted for 20 min; meanwhile, hemodynamic indexes such as cardiac output (CO), cardiac index (CI), systemic vascular resistance (SVR), systemic vascular resistance index (SVRI), left cardiac work (LCW), left cardiac work index (LCWI) and heart rate (HR) were recorded on a hemodynamic monitor. Results:EA at the acupoints of Pericardium Meridian significantly down-regulated the increased CO/CI, LCW/LCWI, and HR (P<0.05), and significantly up-regulated the decreased SVR/SVRI in hypoxia (P<0.05); EA at other meridian acupoints or at non-meridian and non-acupoint points didn't produce such effects. Conclusion: EA at the Pericardium Meridian can obviously improve the cardiac hyper-activation caused by acute hypoxia in healthy volunteers.

Chinese Acupuncture & Moxibustion 2012;32(2):135-137
OBJECTIVETo find out the regular pattern of pain reaction by pressing along the Governor Vessel at the levels of T3 to L4 on the back in patients with digestive system disease, so as to provide references for diagnosis of the disease.
METHODSThirty patients diagnosed with digestive system disease by gastroscopy and colonoscopy as well as 16 patients with digestive symptoms without accurate diagnosis by endoscopy checks were observed. Pressing was applied from Zhiyang (GV 9) to Yaoyangguan (GV 3), including non-acupoints along the Governor Vessel. Positive reaction was recognized since pain, soreness or distension sensation appeared in the space between the spinous process.
RESULTSThe positive ratios of 30 patients with endoscopy checks and 16 without the check accounted for 100.0%. The tender spots, usually 5 to 9 in number, were mainly focused on the relative acupoints and non-acupoints along the Governor Vessel from T6 to T10.
CONCLUSIONThe pain reaction from Lingtai (GV 10) to Zhongshu (GV 7), which are at the level of T6 to T10, along the Governor Vessel is closely related with digestive system disease. And it can be regarded as function criterion of the digestive system and important reference of auxiliary diagnosis.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2008;25(5):1101-1106
Vascular stent is an important medical appliance for angiocardiopathy. Its key deformation process is the expandable progress of stent in the vessel. The important deformation behaviour corresponds to two mechanics targets: deformation and stress. This paper is devoted to the research and development of vascular stent with proprietary intellectual property rights. The design of NiTinol self-expandable stent is optimized by means of finite element software. ANSYS is used to build the finite element simulation model of vascular stent; the molding material is NiTinol shape memory alloy. To cope with the factors that affect the structure of stent, the shape of grid and so on, the self-expanding process of Nitinol stent is simulated through computer. By making a comparison between two kinds of stents with similar grid structure, we present a new concept of "Optimized Grid" of stent.

To compare the short-and long-term effect of two minimal invasive surgical therapies including keyhole approach endoscopic surgery(KAES)and stereotactic aspiration plus urokinase(SAU)in treating basal ganglia hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage(hICH). The clinical data of 117 hICH patients(63 received KAES and 54 received SAU)were retrospectively analyzed. The operation time, blood loss during surgery, and drainage time were compared between two groups. The residual hematoma volume, hematoma clearance rate(HCR),Glasgow coma scale(GCS)score, and National Institute of Health Stroke Scale(NIHSS)score were recorded at baseline and in the ultra-early stage, early stage, and sub-early stage after surgery. The 30-day mortality and serious adverse events were assessed and the 6-month modified Rankin scale(mRS)score was rated. Baseline data showed no significant difference between these two groups.Compared with the SAU group, the KAES group had significantly longer operation time, more intraoperative blood loss, and shorter drainage time(all <0.001).In the ultra-early stage after surgery,HCR was significantly higher in the KAES group(<0.001),whereas in the early and sub-early stage,HCR showed no significant differences(all >0.05).In the ultra-early and early stage, the GCS and NIHSS scores showed no significant differences between two groups(all >0.05),whereas in the sub-early stage, the NIHSS score was better in the SAU group(=0.034).The 30-day mortality and incidences of serious adverse events showed no significant difference(all >0.05).The good recovery(mRS≤3)at 6-months follow-up showed no significant difference between the two groups(=0.413). Both KAES and SAU are safe and effective in treating basal ganglia hICH.In the ultra-early stage after surgery,KAES achieves better residual hematoma volume and HCR,and patients undergoing SAU quickly catch up.The short-and long-term effectiveness of SAU is comparable or even superior to KAES.
