1.Proton and heavy ion radiotherapy: the context and challenges
Chinese Journal of Radiological Medicine and Protection 2016;36(8):616-620
Protons and heavy ion radiation therapy have proven highly effective against a wide range of cancers and in recent decades there have been rapid advances.Due to the physical characteristics of the Bragg-peak and superior biological properties, proton and heavy ion radiation is able to focus its energy on the tumor while minimizing exposure to surrounding normal tissues and organs, which is expected help enhance the tumor dose and reduce normal tissue damage. In recent years, many studies have explored the efficacy and safety of proton and heavy ion radiotherapy on various malignancies, such as head and neck cancer, lung cancer, esophageal cancer, and liver cancer. The results of these studies enable a better understanding of the characteristics and advantages of proton and heavy ion therapy.

Academic Journal of Second Military Medical University 2010;28(8):898-900
Objective: To investigate the influence of MRI examination on the position of closure devices for congenital heart diseases and to assess the effect of these devices on the image quality of MRI. Methods: Two atrial septal defect closure devices, 2 ventricular septal defect closure devices and 1 patent ductus arteriosus closure device were placed into a transparent non-metal container filled with boiling agar, with the agar completely covering the devices. The agar changed into glue after cooling, then the devices were sequentially scanned by MRI in transverse and coronal planes. The changes of agar integrity, the position of devices and the image quality were observed after scanning. Results: The surface of the agar covering the devices was smooth and had no breakage after the scanning. There was no change in the shape and position of all types of devices. The coronary, transverse scanning (T1 WI, T2 WI) showed a few slight artifacts on the central layer, all within the contour of the device. The mesh of device near the edge was clearly showed. Conclusion: Under our experimental condition, MRI does not affect the position of closure devices for congenital heart diseases and the devices do not affect the MRI image quality.

Objective To investigate the expressions of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-C,-D and VEGF receptor-3 (VEGFR-3/Flt-4) in pN0 early gastric cancer (ECG) and their relationship with lymph node micrometastasis. Methods From January 2005 to January 2010,the paraffin-embedded specimens of 61 pN0 ECG were collected. The expressions of VEGF-C,VEGF-D and VEGFR-3 in 61 pN0 early gastric cancer tissue,25 adjacent tissue and CAM5.2 expression in 868 hematoxylin-eosin staining negative lymph nodes were detected by immunohistochemical assay. The rate of lymph node micrometastasis of 61 pN0 ECG was evaluated.According to the data type,t test,x2 test or Fisher exact probability were performed for the relationship analysis between the expressions of VEGF-C,VEGF-D and VEGFR-3 in pN0 stage ECG and lymph node micrometastasis. Results The high expressions of VEGF-C,VEGF-D and VEGFR-3 in the 61 pN0 ECG were 34.4% (21/61),34.4% (21/61) and 44.3% (27/61) respectively, which were higher than those of adjacent tissues [12.0% (3/25),8.0% (2/25) and 16.0% (4/25) respectively] (x2=4.433,6.321 and 6.144 respectively, all P<0.05).There were 10 cases (16.4%) of pN0 ECG with lymph node micrometastasis. In pN0 ECG,the low expressions of VEGF-C and VEGFR-3 in negative Flt-4 vascular invasion (FVI) were common than positive FVI (x2 =15.828,6.879 and 9.244,all P<0.05).The high expressions of VEGF-C and VEGFR-3 were related to the depth of tumor invasion (x2 =5.561 and 5.678,both P<0.05),the density of VEGFR 3 positive vascular (FVD) (t=2.987and 5.652,both P<0.01) and lymph node micrometastasis (x2 =6.705 and 6.192,both P<0.05),but not related to the degree of differentiation (P>0.05).However,the high expression of VEGF-D was not related to depth of tumor invasion,FVD and lymph node micrometastasis (all P>0.05),but related to the degree of differentiation (x2 =8.472,P =0.004).The high expressions of VEGF-C,VEGF-D and VEGFR-3 were not related to gender, age, tumor location, macroscopic type and tumor size (all P>0.05).Conclusions The high expressions of VEGF-C,VEGFR-3 were related to lymph node micrometastasis in pN0 ECG.Although the high expression of VEGF-D was not related to lymph node micrometastasis,it could indirectly affect lymph node micrometastasis through VEGF-C-VEGFR-3 axis in pN0 ECG.

AIM To study toxicity of Safflor Yellew (SY) for vascular endothelic cell (VEC) and whether SY has antagonistic effect on platelet activating factor (PAF). METHODS Use light microscopical observation and crystal violet colorimetric method to study morphological and bioactivity change of HVEC and EVC 304 after incubated with PAF, SY, SY+PAF, Ginkolide, and Ginkolide+PAF. RESULTS Cultured with PAF 30 minutes, HVEC had histopathological changes: from fusiform, polygond squamous cell to ellipsoid, circular cell , not binding tightly, but separated by wide gap. As cultured with SY+PAF, cell's morphological changes just as same as PAF's group. And its bioactivity had tendency of decline. Either HVEC was incubated with SY (0.571 g?L -1 ) for 30 minutes or EVC 304 cultured with SY(1 143 g?L -1 ) for 4 hours, their morphology and bioactivity had changes. CONCLUSION SY do not inhibit PAF's injury effect. And high concentration SY has toxicity to cultured endothelic cell.

Objective To investigate the existence of the erythropoiesis inhibitors(?).Methods Twelve patients suffered from uremia with anemia were studied[5 males, and 7 females,(50?12)years].Methylcellulose culture technique was used to culture mice bone marrow cells. The sera from the uremia patients were added to CFU- E and BFU-E culture medium with final concentrations of 1,25%,2.5% and 5%,Mice bone marrow cells were ob- tained from the female Balb/c mice.In vitro CFU-E and BFU-E culture in the presence of sera from uremia patients was compared with that in the presence of normal human subjects with the use of normal mice bone marrows.Re- suits The effects of the sera from uremia patients on CFU-E and BFU-E colon growth were in a dose-dependent manner. The effect was correlated with the concentrations of the sera(P

Journal of Shanghai Jiaotong University(Medical Science) 2006;0(09):-
Objective To evaluate the system of academic assessment and evaluation on introduced talented personnel so as to establish a consummate talented personnel introduction mechanism and to further standardize the introduction work. Methods On the basis of referring to document papers and soliciting management as well as human resource experts iteratively, the research method of expert consultation was adopted.(Results)The index system of academic assessment and evaluation on introduced talented personnel in school of medicine was preliminary established, and the objective index and subjective evaluation were scientifically combined to form the method of academic assessment and evaluation on introduced talented personnel. Conclusion Through simulative assessment and evaluation as well as probational demonstration, there exits definite scientificality and applicability on this academic assessment and evaluation index system, and it can provide a properly objective evaluation and essential reference foundation in the aspect of introducing more advanced talented personnel in the near future.
