Through the investigation of Phellodendron Cortex on the market, and 28 batches of samples were collected. By using spectrophotometer the color values of outer surface, inner surface and cross - section of these samples were measured. These measured color data was translated into 3D structure diagram by using the Lab color space tool. The level difference value, the mean value and the threshold value were calculated based the measured color data of these different batches of samples. All 28 groups measured data was analyzed using the methods of Ward linkage and average Euclidean distance. At the same time, we invited Professor Jin Shiyuan, the "Chinese medicine master", to identify, quality-evaluate and grade these 28 batches of Phellodendron Cortex samples base on the traditional experience, then compared the traditional empirical results with the spectrophotometer measurement results. The result showed that, the Phellodendron Cortex could be divided into Phellodendri Amurensis Cortex and Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex by color numerical clustering, and classified according to quality. The classification result has a high degree of consistency with the traditional experience.

To clarify the origin and development of the traditional Chinese medicine "Duhuo" and "Qianghuo" with medicinal literatures. Medical literatures of past dynasties were analysed and combined with the modern material. The "Duhuo" in Herbal writing Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing include traditional Chinese medicine "Duhuo" and "Qianghuo", "Qianghuo" was separated from "Duhuo" due to the distinguish of clinical application. The origin of "Qianghuo" is Notopterygium incisum and N. forbesii, However, The origin of "Duhuo" is very complex, Angelica pubescens f. biserrata as authentic "Duhuo" was used from Song Dynasty. "Qianghuo" was originated from "Duhuo".

Objective To evaluate the security and effect of combination of adjuvant hormonal thera- py and brachytherapy for localized prostate cancer.Methods 22 patients with T1-T2c prostate cancer were treated with transperineal ultrasound-guide 125I seeds prostate implantation and adjuvant hormonal therapy for 4～7 months.The hormonal therapy include 2-4 months before brachytherapy and 1～4 months after brachytherapy.Results The median operation time was ninety minutes,the median number of ~(125)I seeds used was 56.The follow up time was 12～48 months,the cases of PSA

To clarify the origin and application development of the traditional Chinese medicine " Zi-hua Qianhu" and " Qianhu", the medicinal literatures of past dynasties and modern researches were analysed. The plant Angelica decursivum was used as a substitute for traditional Chinese medicine "Angelica sinensis Radix" for a long historical period, it is used incorrectly for traditional Chinese medicine "Qianhu" due to origin research in modern times. The plant origin of "Qianhu" is Peucedanum praeruptorum. There are significant differences in clinical applications and chemical composition of the two drugs. The same efficacy description of "Zi-huaQianhu" and "Qianhu" could not stop "Zi-huaQianhu" used as "Qianhu" in practical application. Therefore, we need to further research for the plant A. decursivum, delimit its medicinal attribution.

Objective To investigate the effects of TLR4 on the radiosensitivity of tumor cells.Methods The cell lines of RAW264.7,Lewis,MFC,Hepal-6,Bl6,and NIH3T3 were irradiated with 5 Gy X-rays or sham-irradiated.24 h after irradiation,the expression of TLR4 was detected by flow cytometry.According to the TKR4 level,cells were divided into three groups:without treatment,LPS stimulation and TAK242 block.CCK-8 kit and Annexin-V Apoptosis Kit were used to detect cell proliferation,apoptosis and cell cycle distribution of each group.Results After 24 h of 5 Gy ionizing radiation,TLR4 was significantly increased in Lewis cells (t =-8.68,P ＜0.01) but decreased in MFC cells (t =25.8,P ＜ 0.01) and had no significant changes in Hepal-6,B16 and RAW264.7 cells.In addition,the proliferation vitality (t =57.62,-6.23,P ＜ 0.01) and survival fraction (t =13.37,19.24,P ＜ 0.01) of the Lewis and MFC cells were reduced especially for the TLR4-blocked cells,and the apoptosis rates of both Lewis (t=-167.85,P＜0.01) and MFC cells (t=-26.45,P＜0.01) were elevated.The percentages of G0/G1 phase and S phase Lewis cells were significant increased (t =8.68,14.89,P ＜ 0.01) but its G2/M phase were reduced (t =-37.48,P ＜ 0.01).However,the percentages of G0/G1 phase and S phase MFC cells were obviously reduced (t =20.31,4.48,P ＜ 0.01) and G2/M phase increased (t =-13.06,P ＜ 0.01).For both cell lines of Lewis and MFC,the cycle distribution of TAK242 and LPS groups didn't change significantly.Conclusions High expression TLR4 in the Lewis cells is related to cell proliferation and apoptosis but not cell cycle distribution,and hence TLR4 could influence the radiosensitivity of tumor cells.

OBJECTIVETo explore the effect of internal fixation with screw through femoral epiphyseal plate on growth in- hibition via an experimental study.

METHODSForty New Zealand rabbits were randomly divided into 4 groups and 10 rabbits in each group. Epiphyseal plate was injured by penetrating of screws, and the size of damage area was controlled by changing the number of threads. Group A: blank group; group B: injury area accounted for 4% of the epiphyseal plate; group C: injury area accounted for 6%; group D: injury area accounted for 8%. The internal fixation was removed after 2 weeks, and the results were observed with X-ray film for 4 groups to judge the complications such as early closure of epiphyseal.

RESULTSIn each group, there were no statistical differences in the length of the femoral neck, the diameter of femoral neck, the diameter of the femoral head, and the epiphyseal plate closure time. The growth speed of the length and diameter of the femoral neck, as well as the diameter of femoral head, were quicker on the early phase, and the speed was slowest when the epiphyseal plate was being closed.

CONCLUSIONThe injury area of epiphyseal plate under 8% is safe for its growth. Because no evidences demonstrate the growth inhibition of epiphyseal plate, the screws can be used for rabbit epiphyseal plates.

Objective:Ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF) plays important roles in the maintenance and survival of motor neurons. This study attempted to explore the expression and distribution of CNTF mRNA and its protein in the ambiguous nucleus(Amb) motoneuron in order to clarify its functional state after long term laryngeal denervation. Methods: The recurrent laryngeal nerves were obtained from dogs. Brain stems were removed and sectioned for histochemistry, immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization of CNTF. Amb motoneurons were identified by Nissl staining. The count and intensity of positive reactive motoneurons were measured by computer image processing system. Results: Transection of the laryngeal nerve led to a very marked reduction in the count and intensity of CNTF mRNA positive reactive motoneurons, and reached minimal levels at week 3. CNTF immunoreactivity increased rapidly and reached maximal levels also at week 3. At week 4, a significant increase in CNTF mRNA expression and decrease in CNTF immunoreactivity were observed. At week 6, both CNTF mRNA and its protein expression were significantly less than those of unlesioned contraletaral sides. Although a difference between week 6 and 12 was observed, the motoneurons were generally stable in the expression level of CNTF mRNA and its protein, and in the size and count after 12 weeks, with 78%, 84.4%, 80.9% and 83.7% respectively as compared with the unlesioned contralateral Amb. Conclusion: The results indicate that although degenerating changes occurre in the Amb motoneurons after long term laryngeal denervation, the ciliary neurotrophic factors activity of the lesioned motoneurons is still maintained at a certain level. Objective To elucidate the role of renal progenitor-like tubular cells in the repair process after acute tubular necrosis(ATN)induced by ischemia. Methods Rat ATN was developed by clamping left kidney artery for 60 minutes,and bromodeoxyuridine(BrdU),a cell division and proliferation marker,was administrated one hour before rats were sacrificed.Kidneys were isolated at 1,3,5,7,14,21,28 days after injury.The proliferative and apoptotic cells were determined by immunostaining using anti-BrdU,Pax2(an embryonic renal marker),vimentin(an immature mesenchymal cell marker),and activated caspase-3(a cell apoptosis marker). Results Cell death was found in tubules at day 1 after ischemia and reperfusion injury.BrdU-positive cells were dramatically increased and reached peak at day 3 after injury.In addition,the number of BrdU positive cells in the contralateral kidney was significantly increased compared to sham operated group.Double immunostaining showed that BrdU-positive cells co-expressed Pax2 or vimentin,but not activated caspase-3. Conclusions Renal progenitor-like tubular cells may play a predominant role in repair process following ATN in rats.They may dedifferentiate,proliferate,and then redifferentiate into mature tubular cells.Growth factors may regulate the repair process.

[Objective] To construct a eukaryotic expression plasmid containing a gene encoding a 41-3 kilodalton blood stage antigen (p41-3) of Plasmodiu falciparum isolate FCC1/HN, and to determine the sequence of p41-3 gene and analyze the homology of the sequences of 341-3 gene of different P. falciparum isolates. [ Methods] Two pairs of primers were designed according to the known sequence of p41-3 gene. Using PCR technique, the p41-3 gene was obtained by amplification from genomic DNA of isolate FCC1/HN. By cloning target gene into a eukaryotic expression vector, pcDNA3, a recombinant plasmid pcDNA3-p41-3 was con structed and trarsferred into E. coli DH5α. The positive clones were screened and identified by agarose gel electrophoresis, endonu clease digestion and PCR technique. The correct recombinant plasmid pcDNA3-p41-3 was used as template, and the nucleotide se quence of p41-3 gene was determined by the dideoxy chain termination method. Using softwares to analyze the structure and sequence homology of p41-3 gene between isolate FCC1/HN and FCBR. [Results] The p41-3 gene was specifically amplified from genomic DNA of Plasmodiumm falciparum isolate FCC1/HN, and the correct recombinant plasmid pcDNA3-p41-3 was screened and identi fied. The result of sequence determination showed that the p41-3 gene of isolate FCC1/HN was 2 137 base pairs in full length, encod ing 375 amino acids. Isolate FCC1/HN and isolate FCBR exhibited 98.98 % homology in the nucleiotide sequences and 99.73 % ho mology in the encoded anino acids of p41-3 gene. [Conclusion] The eukaryotic expression plasmid pcDNA3-p41-3 is successfully con structed and nucleotide sequence of p41-3 gene of isolate FCC1/HN is determined. The p41-3 genes of isolate FCC1/HN and isolate FCBR share quite high homology.
