International Eye Science 2016;16(10):1965-1967
AIM: To investigate the efficacy of 1g/L topical cyclosporine A ( tCsA ) in preventing the recurrence of pterygium after pterygium excision and conjunctival flap rotation technique.
●METHODS:Fifty-eight patients (58 eyes) with primary pterygium were included in this prospective study. All eyes were operated with pterygium excision and conjunctival flap rotation technique, and divided into treatment and control group according to whether be treated with 1g/L tCsA eye drops after operation. The operated patients were followed up for 1y to assess the recurrence of pterygium.
●RESULTS: After surgery, the difference between the tCsA treatment and control group were statistically significant in the Schirmer l test results (9. 93 ± 1. 59mm/5min vs 8. 47±1. 53mm/5min, P<0. 001). The Schirmer l test results increased after tCsA treatment for patients assigned to the treatment group. The pterygium recurred in 3 of 28 eyes (10%) in the treatment group and 11 of 30 eyes (39%) in the control group (P=0. 029).
●CONCLUSION:tCsA eye drops are safe and effective for medical treatment to reduce rates of recurrence after pterygium surgery.

OBJECTIVETo observe the effect of Draconis Sanguis-containing serum on the expressions of NGF, BDNF, CNTF, LNG-FR, TrkA, GDNF, GAP-43 and NF-H in Schwann cells, and investigate the possible mechanism of Draconis Sanguis to promote peripheral nerve regeneration.
METHODSD rats were randomly divided into 2 groups: the Draconis Sanguis group (orally administered with Draconis Sanguis-containing balm solution) and the blank group (equivoluminal balm) to prepare Draconis Sanguis-containing serum and blank control serum. Schwann cells were extracted from double sciatic nerves of three-day-old SD rats, divided into 2 groups: the Draconis Sanguis group and the blank control group, and respectively cultured with 10% Draconis Sanguis-containing serum or blank control serum. The mRNA expressions of NGF, BDNF, CNTF and other genes in Schwann cells were measured by RT-PCR analysis 48 hours later.
RESULTMost of the Schwann cells were bipolar spindle and arranged shoulder to shoulder or end to end under the microscope and identified to be positive with the immunocytochemical method. To compare with the blank group, mRNA expressions of NGF, LNGFR, GDNF and GAP-43 significantly increased (P < 0.01). Whereas that of BDNF decreased significantly (P < 0.05), and so did that of TrkA, CNTF (P < 0.01), with no remarkable difference in NF-H-mRNA.
CONCLUSIONTraditional Chinese medicine Draconis Sanguis may show effect in nerve regeneration by up-regulating mRNA expressions of NGF, LNGFR, GDNF and GAP-43 and down-regulating mRNA expressions of TrkA, BDNF and CNTF.

With the development of genome-wide sequencing technology, 195 types of functional, long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been identified so far, and their cellular roles are gradually being revealed. LncRNAs have now become a hotspot in the field of life sciences. These small molecules exist in almost all higher eukaryotes and play very important regulatory roles in these organisms. This review briefly summarizes the recent progress in research on plasmacytoma variant translocation 1 gene (PVT1), an lncRNA.

Objective To elucidate the evaluation of therapeutic effects and surgical treatments of 45 cases of inflammatory bowel disease. Methods Clinical data of 45 cases with inflammatory bowel disease by surgical treatment in recent 6 years were retrospectively analyzed. Results Patients received emergency operation in 16 cases, Crohn' s disease in 9 cases, Ulcerative Colitis( UC) in 7 cases. Among 13 cases of Crohn' s disease, partial enterectomy occured in 6 cases, partial enterectomy and colectomy and anastomosis in 1 patient because of internal fistula, repair of ileal perforation in 1 case, laparoscopic ileocolic resection in 5 cases. Among 32 cases of UC, 25 cases underwent ileal pouch-anal anastomosis operation, 3 cases underwent ileostomy with total colectomy, and 4 cases only underwent ileostomy. Twenty- seven cases were cured by operation, 14 cases were improved and 4 cases died. Conclusion It is the key point to achieve successful operation that the corresponding operative modes for varied manifestations of inflammatory bowel disease should be adopted.

Aim To elucidate the molecular mechanism of cell cycle arrest and apoptosis of MCF-7 cells induced by paclitaxel. Methods Flow cytometry was used to determine the cell cycle changes of MCF-7 cells upon paclitaxel treatment. Gene expression profiles of MCF-7 cells induced by paclitaxel were obtained by using cDNA microarrays containing 9 984 genes and expressed sequence tags (ESTs).Results Cell cycle analysis showed that 77.8% of cells arrested at G2/M phase and 1.3% of cells caused G2/M cell cycle arrest and apoptotic cell death in a concentration-dependent manner, which is associated with the regulation of selected genes related to microtubule assembly and cytoskeleton, cell cycle regulation, and DNA repair and apoptosis.

Objective To investigate the expression of peripheral blood (PB) CD4+ CD25+ Foxp3+ regulatory T cells (Tregs) in patients with benign end-stage liver disease after liver transplantation and the relationship between levels of PB Tregs and acute rejection. Methods A prospective analysis was performed on 55 consecutive patients who underwent liver transplantation.Fourteen out of 55 cases suffered from acute rejection after liver transplantation were defined as rejection group, while the rest patients were classified into no acute rejection group. PB was obtained from liver transplant patients at different time points longitudinally: pre-transplant, post-transplant within one year and acute rejection. The circulating CD4+ CD25+ Foxp3+ Tregs in PB were measured by flow cytometry. Blood samples were drawn during acute rejection, at the same time, liver biopsies were performed. The circulating CD4+ CD25+ Foxp3+ Tregs were compared between two groups. Results There was no difference between two groups in levels of circulating CD4+ CD25+ Foxp3 + Tregs cells pre-transplant. However, the levels of circulating CD4+ CD25+ Foxp3+ Tregs in rejection group were decreased significantly as compared with no-rejection group (2. 23 % ± 0. 54 % vs. 2. 99 % ±0. 86 %,P<0.01). The frequency of CD4+ CD25+ Foxp3+ T cells was negatively correlated with rejection activity index (RAI) (r = - 0. 80, P<0. 01 ). Conclusion Monitoring PB CD4+ CD25+ Foxp3+ Tregs levels may be helpful in evaluating the immune state and act as a more sensitive marker for acute rejection diagnosis in the patients following liver transplantation.

Objective To investigate relationships between serum levels of anti?tyrosinase IgG antibody(TYR IgG)as well as anti?tyrosinase?related protein?1 IgG antibody(TRP?1 IgG)and vitiligo. Methods Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)was performed to detect serum levels of TYR IgG and TRP?1 IgG in 260 patients with vitiligo and 50 health controls. The threshold for defining a positive test result was set at 3 standard deviations above the mean serum level of TYR IgG or TRP?1 IgG in the healthy controls. Results The positive rate of TYR IgG and/or TRP?1 IgG in the vitiligo group was 57.31%(149/260). The positive rates of TYR IgG and TRP?1 IgG were both significantly higher in the vitiligo group than in the control group(TYR IgG:37.3%[97/260]vs. 0,χ2=25.441, P<0.01;TRP?1 IgG:33.5%[87/260]vs. 0,χ2=21.630, P<0.01). The positive rate of TYR IgG was not associated with that of TRP?1 IgG in the vitiligo group(r=-0.032, P>0.05). Among patients with vitiligo, the positive rate of TRP?1 IgG was significantly higher in females than in males(χ2=5.811, P<0.05), as well as in patients aged≤20 years than in those aged>20 years(χ2=6.498, P<0.05), while the positive rate of TYR IgG didn′t differ between females and males, or between patients aged ≤ 20 years and those aged > 20 years (both P >0.05). Conclusion Detection of TYR IgG and TRP?1 IgG may provide some evidence for the diagnosis and treatment of vitiligo.
