Clinical analysis is done on 108 meniscus injuries operated on at Kwangju Armed Forces General Hospital from 1961 to 1971, with the following results. l. All cases included in this report were military personnels aged from 19 to 35 years old 2. The lateral meniscus was more frequently injured than the medial with a ratio of 79 to 29 (8:3) and the right side knee than the left with a ratio of 60 to 48(6:5). 3. The posterior horn tears were the most common type of injuries involved in 40 cases (41%) 4. There could be found no history of definitive trauma in l7 cases.

Fracture of intercondylar eminerce of the tibia indicate probable alteration of the cruciate ligament stability in the knee and occur from hyperextension injury of the knee and violent internal rotation of the tibia. Fracture of intercondylar eminence of the tibia has been classified by Meyer and Mckeever(1959, 1970) according to the degree of displacment and this classification is important as it pertains to the proper selection of treatment. The author studied 24 cases in 24 patients of fracture of the intercondylar eminerce of the tibia at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery of Severance Hospital during a 10 year period from Januaary, 1975 until December, 1984. The aim of this study was to find out incidence, cause and associated injury of the fracture of the intercondylar eminece of the tibia and was to asses the comparative results of the conservative and surgical treatment. The result of this study ase as follows ; 1. There is a predisposition for make in a ration of 3:1 and there is no age preponderance in occurance. 2.Majority of cause of injury was traffic accident(62.5%). 3.Isolated fracture of intercondylar eminence of the tibia was 15 cases (62.5%) associated knee joint injury shows 9 cases (37.5%). Among the associated knee joint injury, rupure of medial collateral ligament was 4 cases(44.4%), rupture of medial meniscus was 3 cases(33.3%) and rupture of lateral colateral ligament was 2 cases (22.2%). 4.By Meyer and Mckeever's classification, Type 2(41.7%) fracture of intercondylar eminence of the tibia was most common, and then Type 1(37.5%) and Type 3(20.8%) occured in order of frequency. 5. Type 1 and Type 2 fracture of the intercondylar eminence of the tibia resulted in good prognosis with only conservative treatment, and open reduction is not indicated. 6. Type 3 fracture of the intercondylar eminence of the tibia can be treated with conservative treatment if there is no associated injury of the knee joint.

Partial trisomy 10q syndrome is a rare chromosome anomaly characterized by severe mental and growth retardation, craniofacial dysmorphia with prominent forehead, fine arched eyebrows, deep set small eyes and micrognathia, In addition, other physical manifestations have been reported as skeletal anomaly, congenital heart disease, inguinal hernia, and so on. We report a case of partial trisomy 10q syndrorne with certain stigmata which confirmed by chromosome analysis.

PURPOSE: This study was undertaken to determine whether the clinical presentation of patients with central precocius puberty(CPP) varies according to the etiology, whether this permits the differentiation between idiopathic and organic forms and to examine whether LH determination in a single timed blood sample after GnRH administration is sufficient to diagnose CPP. METHODS: This study included 33 girls with signs of breast development, of whom 23 were diagnosed as definite central precocious puberty. Sixteen patients had idiopathic CPP; the remaining 7 patients had organic CPP. Ten patients were classified as non-CPP. Potential clinical and laboratory predictors of CNS abnormalities were assessed and GnRH stimulation test was done. RESULTS: The age of onset in patients with organic CPP was 4.11+/-2.08 years, whereas the age in patients with idiopathic CPP was 7.25+/-1.34 years. This parameter is the only one showing statistical significance. We compared sensitivities and specificities at 0, 15, 30, 60, 90 and 120 min which yielded sensitivities of 8.7%, 87.0%, 91.3%, 87.0%, 73.9%, 60.9%. CONCLUSION: It is impossible to exclude a central nervous system lesion in patient with central precocious puberty without performing central nervous system imaging. However, this study indicates earlier the onset of disease, higher the possibility of presence of CNS lesion. According to the mean GnRH stimulated LH levels and sensitivity at each times, a single blood sample obtained for LH determined after GnRH administration at 30 min can be used to diagnose the central precocious puberty.

BACKGROUND: Estrogen deficiency accelerates loss of bone mass and changes lipid profile in the postmenopausal women, so that the osteoporosis and astherosclerosis were developed. But it has not enough studies including the premenopausal women. So we have investigated about the differences of body mass index(BMI), lipid profile and bone mineral density (BMD) with pre- and postmenopausal women. METHODS: We have evaluated 201 premenopausal women and 322 postmenopausal women out of total 651 who had visited Health Screening Center in the hospital of Eul-Ji Medical College from November, 1995 to July, 1996. RESULTS: The mean age of total subjects, premenopausal women, postmenopausal women were 51.9, 43.9, 56.8 years, respectively. The mean period after menopause was 8.1 years. Significant difference was seen in BMI, lipid profile and BMD according to age and menopause(P<0.01). BMI was related to lipid profile(P<0.01), but not to BMD(P>0.1). In postmenopausal women BMI, BMD and lipid profile were related to postmenopausal period (P<0.05). In viewing their correlations BMD had strong adverse correlations with factors such as age, menopause, and postmenopausal period. Lipid profile had weak positive correlations with factors such as age, menopause, BMI(P<0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The lipid profile are related to factors such as age, BMI, menopause, and postmenopausal period. The BMD is related to above factors except BMI. Prospective study is needed to evaluate the influence of estrogen on BMD and lipid metabolism. Thus, it helps to the prevention and treatment of the osteoporosis and hyperlipidemia in the postmenopausal women.

We observed a case of tuberculosis cutis orificialis, which occurred in 50 year-old man. He had been suffered from single markedly inflamed, erythematous painful ulcer, covered by dirty brown pseudomembranous material, around anus for 3 months. The laboratory findings (CBC, routine urinalysis, stool ova and parasite with occult blood) are within normal limits except elevated ESR (52mm/hr.). Staphyloeoccus aureus and proteus are observed on wound culture, and many AFB are seen on scrapings of wound but not on sputum for 3 times. Unfortunately culture was not done. Tuberculin skin test revealed strong reaction (36mm/hr.). Chest PA and small bowel series showed far advanced pulmonary tuberculosis and intestinal tuberculosis on ileocecal area. But the findings of upper gastro-intestinal series and barium enema are within normal limits. Histopathologic findings of skin lesion showed tuberculous and tuberculoid granuloma in the deep dermis and subcutaneous tissue. A preliminary study was conducted to evaluate the immediate postoperative recovery and socioeconomic efficacy with the surgical release of Carpal tunnel syndrome by double incision technique. Sixty cases of carpal tunnel syndrome were operated by one surgeon between 1993 and 1995 and 44 cases in 39 patients were available for this study. Surgery was done under axillary block and patients were evaiuated preoperatively, 3 weeks and 6 weeks each postoperatively. The evaluation was focused on the immediate recovery in terms of subjective symptoms of pain and paresthesia, local tenderness, strength of grip power and pinch power and postoperative disability. 1l was noted that surgical release of carpal tunnel syndrome utilizing double incision technique was as effective as seen in the endoscopic release in terms of quicker recovery of pain, local tenderness and strength. It was also noted that this double incision technique was as safe and economically beneficial as observed in the conventional open procedure.

Gorham's syndrome (Gorham's disease, Massive osteolysis, Disappearing bone disease, phantom bone) is a rare disorder characterized by histologically benign proliferation of thin-walled vascular channels originating in bone associated with extensive lysis of regional bone matrix. It starts in bone, but it may secondarily involve soft tissues and adjacent bones. Although the osteolysis usually arrests spontaneously, its biologic behavior is unpredictable. The etiolgy is still in dispute and the treatment presents many problems. The author's case was a 20-year old girl, who had pathologic fracture in neck and supracondylar area of left femur with osteolysis of left pelvis, femur, and proximal fibula and tibia. She also had lymphangioma involving bones and adjacent soft tissues. To our knowledge, there is no report on Gorham's syndrome in Korea. The authors report a case of Gorham's syndrome with review of literatures.
