Neurointervention 2019;14(1):17-26
PURPOSE: To assess clinical and angiographic outcomes after endovascular treatment (EVT) in ischemic stroke patients according to anesthesia types (general anesthesia vs. conscious sedation). MATERIALS AND METHODS: A systematic literature review through an online data base between January 1990 and September 2017 was performed. A fixed effect model was used in cases of <50% heterogeneity. The primary outcomes were good clinical outcome at the 3-month follow-up and successful recanalization. A meta-regression analysis was done to estimate primary outcomes of log odds ratio (OR) on onset-to-puncture time (OTP) differences. Publication bias was determined using Begg’s funnel plot and additional the Trim and Fill method. RESULTS: Sixteen articles including 2,662 patients (general anesthesia, n=1,275; conscious sedation, n=1,387) were included. General anesthesia significantly decreased good outcomes than conscious sedation (OR, 0.564; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.354–0.899). However, outcomes did not differ significantly in randomized controlled trials (RCTs; OR, 1.101; 95% CI, 0.395–3.071). Anesthesia type was not associated with successful recanalization (OR, 0.985; 95% CI, 0.787–1.233). General anesthesia increased the risk of mortality (OR, 1.532; 95% CI, 1.187–1.976) and pneumonia (OR, 1.613; 95% CI, 1.172–2.221), but not symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (OR, 1.125; 95% CI, 0.767–1.652). The meta-regression analysis showed no linear relationship between OTP differences and log OR of good outcome (coefficient, 0.0004; P=0.95) or successful recanalization (coefficient, 0.0005; P=0.94), respectively. CONCLUSION: General anesthesia seemed to be associated with adverse clinical outcome after EVT. However, its efficacy was not demonstrated in RCTs. Successful recanalization did not differ according to anesthesia type. Studies using individual patient data based on further RCTs are necessary to elucidate anesthesia effect on procedural and clinical outcomes.

Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society 2016;59(6):537-543
A better understanding of moyamoya disease (MMD), such as natural clinical course, surgical outcomes and research, has been obtained. This review article focuses on an giving an update for adult MMD in the Korean population. In this paper, we mainly discuss the results of our domestic investigations including meta-analysis, and related subjects from other countries.

Scaphocapitate fracture syndrome is a relatively uncommon variant of trans-scaphoid perilunte dislocation in which the head of the capitate is fractured and rotated 180 degrees. The incidence of the injury has not been documented, and no report has been issued in Korea since the lesion was originally described in 1937. Termed degrees naviculocapitate fracture syndrome " by Fenton in 1956, scaphocapitate fractures continue to pose problems at diagnosis and treatment. The author experienced one case of scaphocapitate fracture syndrome in the left wrist joint which was treated by open reduction and K-wire fixation.

International Journal of Thyroidology 2017;10(1):46-49
Hyalinizing trabecular adenoma of the thyroid gland is a rare benign neoplasm. It is characterized by an encapsulated nodule, trabecular arrangement of polygonal, oval, elongated cells, and hyalinized stroma. It is easily confused with medullary thyroid carcinoma or papillary thyroid carcinoma. Distinguishment with pathologic finding and immunohistochemical studies are needed to make a definite diagnosis. We recently experienced a case of hyalinizing trabecular adenoma of the thyroid gland. A 73-year-old woman present with an incidentally detected left thyroid mass. Fine needle aspiration was performed and papillary thyroid carcinoma was suspected. However, the surgical specimen revealed a hyalinizing trabecular adenoma. We present this case with a review of the literature.

8.Conservative Parotidectomy for Benign Parotid Tumors.
Korean Journal of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery 2013;56(10):617-622
Superficial parotidectomy is the most widely accepted form of the treatment for benign parotid tumors. But the risk of postoperative complications for the treatment of a benign condition cannot be ignored. Recent studies suggest that conservative parotidectomy (partial superficial parotidectomy or extracapsular dissection) might be the reliable option for the resection of benign parotid tumors. Conservative parotidectomy showed similar recurrence rate and lesser post operative complications than superficial parotidectomy.

Korean Journal of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery 2011;54(7):486-488
The tonsillolith is a white or yellow colored calcified lesion that forms in the crypts of the palatine tonsil. Small tonsilloliths are frequently found on tonsils, while giant tonsilloliths are a rare clinical entity. We had a 35-years old female patient, who presented throat discomfort due to a giant tonsillolith. The stone was removed and tonsillectomy was performed. We reviewed the literature on this rare clinical entity.

10.A Case of Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans was Misdiagnosed as Keloid of the Anterior Neck

Korean Journal of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery 2018;61(1):47-51
Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans is a rare type of cancer, a soft tissue sarcoma that develops in the deep layers of skin. It is a locally aggressive tumor with a high recurrence rate but the metastasis rarely occurs. The first sign of dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans is often a small bump on the skin. It may resemble a deep-seated pimple of rough patch of skin. The tumor typically grows slowly and can become a raised nodule. Therefore, it is likely to be misdiagnosed as keloid, basal cell carcinoma and scleroderma. We recently experienced a case of dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans in a 63-year-old man, who presented with anterior lower neck mass. We present this case with a review of the literature.
