Clinical observations were made on 338 low birth weight infants, who were delivered at Pusan Wallace Memorial Baptist Hospital, during the 3 year periods from 1989 to 1991. The results were as follows; The incidence of LBWI was 5.6% and sex ratio was 1:1.09. Among them AGA was 62.7%. 2) Of all infants, 47.3% were in the birth weight range of 2251-2500 gm and 25.1% were in the gestational age group of 37-38 week. 3) LBWI were most prevalent among mothers under 20 years old and over 41 years old. 4) The Incidence of LBWI was higher in multiparity than primiparity and in multiple pregnancy than single pregnancy. 5) Vaginal delivery was 63.9% and c-section delivery was 36.1%. 6) The order or frequency of the etiology of LBWI was multiple pregnancy, premature rupture of membrane and toxemia. 7) The mortality rate of LBWI was 12.7% and mortality rate by weight-gestational age was lower in AGA group than SGA and LGA group. 8) A Higher mortality rate was noted in the group of lower birth weight infant, and in the group of more shortened gestational age. 9) 48.8% of death occured within ist day of birth. The common causes of death were respiratory distress syndrome, asphyxia, and apnea.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to contribute to enhancing elementary school health teachers professional job performance by analyzing their job identity and job stress. METHODS: The participants were 138 elementary school health teachers registered at the Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education, and the survey was conducted from the 22nd to 23rd of July, 2010. The collected data were analyzed by percentile, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression using the SPSS/WIN 17.0 program. RESULTS: The average percentiles of job identity and job stress were 70.6 and 64.0 respectively. Among the sub-factors of job identity, autonomy was highest as 73.5, and among the sub-factors of job stress, job demand was highest as 73.9. There were significant differences in the degree of job identity and job stress according to education status, the number of classes, job satisfaction, enthusiasm for work, and the image of nursing teachers expressed in a word. The regression model explained 21.2% of the variance of job identity. job stress explained 32.0% of the variance. CONCLUSION: It is important to develop various comprehensive programs for improving job identity and managing job stress. In addition, it is necessary to provide support systems including persons, promotion and rewards to school health teachers.

BACKGROUND: The extent of disease in the nonventilated lung is a major determinant of the amount of blood flow to the nonventilated lung during one lung anesthesia. Collapse of a normal lung may be associated with a higher nonventilated lung blood flow and pulmonary shunt. The aim of this study was to compare the difference of pulmonary shunt and arterial oxygenation between right and left one lung ventilation in patients with normal lung in the supine position. METHODS: 50 patients for bilateral thoracic sympathectomy in the supine position were selected. Patient's data (MAP, HR, PaO2, and shunt) were collected and calculated after left lung ventilation (LLV) with 50% and 100% oxygen (20 minutes interval), and after right lung ventilation (RLV) as same method. Patient,s data were compared between left and right lung ventilation. RESULTS: Under 50% oxygen, PaO2 by LLV (78.0 +/- 12.0 mmHg) was lower than PaO2 by RLV (107.7 +/- 27.9 mmHg) and pulmonary shunt by LLV (28.0 +/- 4.8%) was higher than pulmonary shunt by RLV (22.0 +/- 5.7%). Under 100% oxygen, PaO2 by LLV (143.2 +/- 28.5 mmHg) was lower than PaO2 by RLV (201.1 +/- 3.6 mmHg) and pulmonary shunt by LLV (29.7 +/- 2.5%) was higher than pulmonary shunt by RLV (25.8 +/- 2.7%). CONLUSION: Under 50% oxygen, left lung ventilation in patient with normal lung has higher risk of hypoxemia compared to right lung ventilation during one lung anesthesia in the supine position.
